    It's really hard for me to actually make the decision of risking a swing instead of giving the enemy team a free ball. I feel like if I fuck up I'll be blamed by everyone so I rarely ever take any risks.

    • @matiasdamer3109
      @matiasdamer3109 5 лет назад +66

      Don't let the blame of getting something wrong to get in your head. Go and risk it with a swing, you are evolving, taking those risks will get you to know you better. Don't be afraid of mistakes.

    • @matiasdamer3109

      I always get blamed by my teammates, but I don't care because i know i'm building and developing myself on the court so I try everything.

      @@matiasdamer3109 the sad thing is. I'm still in school(Last grade of high school), and we only have one national tournament per year here. I'm the team's captain this year and we play quite a bit on our own but we don't really get the chance to play against other times more than once per year. We were lucky/good enough to get to the finals last year (we lost though) but there is no guarantee that's gonna happen if I take risks on my own.

      @@matiasdamer3109 I get what you're saying and thanks for trying to motivate me but my psychology sucks any way you look at it and I'm too much of a coward to try such things x) Especially now that I'm the captain and everyone is kind of taking courage and motivation from me.

    • @nanidesuka592
      @nanidesuka592 5 лет назад +6

      @Lone Lee I know it's about risks, that's why I'm saying my psychology sucks. I really want to carry my team to victory, it's just I'm like this irl as well. I really need to make a change. Thanks for the answer. I'll try to pay more attention to giving it my all instead of being scared all the time. After all I'm never gonna improve without giving it my all. I fail a lot of things because I back out last minute usually

  • @supahmandeoh390
    @supahmandeoh390 5 лет назад +30

    i think the idea here should be more than just about spiking any ball that is just 'satisfactory'. What if it was really impossible to spike or players skills are not good enough. The lesson I feel that is worth learning is to tell players giving (bumping or setting ) free balls that are nice , high and comfortable for their opponents to stop doing so. Give it to the setter if you cant do anything else. Give it in a short arc. The corners of the court. force the middle to dive for the ball and unable to do a quick. I think this is what the video should be about instead.

    • @ryanbruysters5612
      @ryanbruysters5612 5 лет назад +4

      Short arc balls and placement aren't always the best option on a free ball too. A lot of the points in this video the Tall ones were scrambling all over, a good free ball would be high and easy to get your team back into position otherwise the opponents can capitalize quickly, like a back 6 or 1 push or a 2 touch quick if free is given to the setter. It all depends on the situation

    • @NoctisCaelus
      @NoctisCaelus 5 лет назад

      As you are saying the lesson here is try not to make it easy for your opponents to hit you. Eventually it comes down to the situation you are facing. Sometimes you are trying to recover from saving a difficult ball and you need time for your team to regroup. Just think before sending the ball to the other court. Personally I really hate the two extremes: when people are swinging every time (even if they cannot jump) or when blindly send the ball to the other court. Also I never felt "threatened" by a non jumping swing. At a pro level you really expect the blockers to be active so such swings from a bad position wont have any effect.

    I have always done that to, it works most of the time and even good opponents often get surprised that it comes hard. Though when playing with players I do not know already, sometimes get annoyed if it fails, as they think i did it because I just do not care.
    Though from watching your videos, I would say that many of the balls close to the net that you and your team tip could be spiked diagonally to the opposite sideline 1-2 meters from the net or hit into the block for a touch out.

    It’s important to strike a balance. Minimising the number of free balls is important, but not at the expense of making risky attacks that will probably still be easily picked up. It is definitely important to be able to set the ball from pretty much anywhere on court. It is also important to be able to hit sets that aren’t perfect. But it is equally important to be able to make a judgment on when it’s better to go with the safer option. This will be more true at lower levels and more true in women’s volleyball, since the offence has a smaller advantage compared to high level men’s volleyball where the ball is moving so quickly that defence is very hard.
