Hey boys ! For the spike, do we have to spike with a big open hand ? And how To roll the ball ? I'm 15yo, 190cm and a year ago I was better than today.. I cannot spike in 3 meters anymore Please help i need to improve, i only spike very deep and i think that my arm swing has changed ! Thank you and sorry for the bad English, i'm French Love your videos
I second this. How you break down Taylor's demonstrations by looping and rewinding two to three second increments rather than doing a whole demonstration and replaying it is way easier to identify what you're talking about. This is easily my biggest qualm with most of the how-to videos out there: they show the whole thing normal speed, then once in slow motion, whereas I'd rather see the narration isolated and just looped like you guys did. Thanks a bunch. Hopefully I'll stop tearing my rotater cuff...
Wow I've been really hitting wrong all this time. Maybe thats why my shoulder feels like it's burning off after open gym, and that my friend who's jumps as high as I do, and around the same strength seems to just pound the ball so much harder than I do. Damn..... Thanks so much for the tutorial, great video. Time to retool my swing.
Been watching all your tutorials and get a lot of tips on how to improve my game.. sad to say im in my early 40"s but the passion for the is still there, im a small dude who wants to improve my setting skills, coz I can't jump high, neither can block the ball.. I was trained to be a libero then converted to setter.. thanks guys!
This... I wish I had this 20 years ago. Surprisingly technical but clear explanation. I probably could’ve saved myself some injuries with this knowledge.
Stumbled upon you guys searching for vids of Taylor (went to school together), but got intrigued by your guys’ content and the fact that you both are pros and still dish out all these vids in your spare time. Really awesome to see. Def got a new long term sub! 🤙🏽
Wow boys...what can I say? Very informative. TBH, every HS and club coach should circulate this. In this bang-bang generation where everything has to be nutshell'd, this is near-flawless. Keep up the good work, beard bros...
Love your videos! Been watching since you've started and I started rewatching again. I'd love to see you guys breakdown some games. Combine your tutorials within a game. Breakdown what you did right and wrong, starting with serve receive to setting to the batter's box to arm swing. Then to the defense of blocking calls, positioning, and the strike zone. Even what your mindset should have been during a frustrating game.
Would love a video on dinks and technicality of illegal tipping! (My rec group keeps arguing about slappy/cutty open hand attacks that land short) Thanks!
You guys are cool. And the "Bug" can Hit. I coach 7th grade girls. And the porblem with them is timing. I asked them why do you choose to Hit at a game when it has been set perfectly and you choose to freestanding hit. The answered " Cause we don't want to miss and look stupid at a game in front of the spectators, family or friends. WOW! So you rather take the chance for the other tem to score and look better? That was my reply. So, I tried multiple ways when to start your approach as the ball touches the hands of the setter. But they still stutter step and that's is one of the reasons the timing is off. After I see this video I liked how you both explained the steps and it's purpose ( which I have to do coaching the level of youth volleyball. I know its not me. And I know that most of my girls (if they try much more harder) can execute this main feature of volleyball. You might have already Ade a video of this cause I have not had a chance to scroll thrill of the yet. But if you have time , ideas and or suggestions that can help me explain it to them much better. I would appreciate it and will run the drill at our practices. Keep up the good work and thank you. Coach Jeff
Disregard, I found the proper video. Pretty close to what I have been training them to do. But, your 4 step hitting work is better. Lol P.S. I totally missed your explanation on the begining of this video that directs me to that link. Thanks guys. I will update you on the results....Coach Jeff.
Great presentation and explanation of the mechanics of the arm action for the volleyball hit. I agree with the last comment . The best I have ever seen. Too many players drop the hitting arm elbow which reduces power, variability and increases the risk of injury. Thank you.
This is my favorite video y’all have made so far! So good and so n point with every minor detail! Keep going MK brothers y’all got something going no else has touched yet!
First time seeing a video and i gotta give you give you guys props, your techniques and explanations are awesome. Definitely gonna implement them in my game. Thanks
As an adult beginner, these videos are great to break down my mechanics. Would you guys be able to post some self-practice tips for enforcing them? Great vids btw!!! Thanks!!
I'm so embarrassed because recently I have been grunting when i swing lol well my spikes were very hard and on point so thank you, now i have to grunt more lol
What’s funny is back in the day. My college years, I could legit pound it on or in front of the 10ft line over and over... with a bent elbow. I’m 5’9. Now that I am 38 years old and prob 20-30lbs heavier and not nearly as strong, I am trying how to find out to be better on a men’a net. I have Always made contact with a bent elbow, my arm doesn’t fully extend until after contact has been made and it’s on its way down maybe 45 from my chest. This is probably more of a timing issue that I would have to relearn. I feel like just about everything else I do is pretty close except my hitting arm doesn’t cross my body either, it comes straight down. I tried this technique and want to get better but my muscle memory is not allowing me to change. Once I’m in the air, I forget everything. I can’t even fully extend my arm until it is about a 45 from my chest (not straight up/slightly forward). Why can’t I extend my arm above my head? Probably no use for me to change my mechanics as little as I play now. But I will definitely be using this for my daughter. Thanks!
I just wanted to say how dead on you guys are in regards to having strong stomach muscles & utilizing torque when hitting a beach volleyball. I grew up in the Wash DC area & ended up at Florida State University as a Diver for FSU's Swim team. I'm only 5'8' but because of my years of training on diving boards & understanding how why. & when to utilize my bodies built up torque after leaving the board, body movement is critical especially after a diver has left the spring of the diving board. Suffice to say, within a couple days of getting on FSU's campus I absolutely fell in love with sand volleyball. After graduation, I moved out to Venice Beach, CA & during the late 90's Mr. DJ Roueche & I would get in a few games before we headed in to work at Maverick Records.
Great video! waiting for another one and it can describe the power serve. As far as i understand the movement is pretty similar, but your jump may not be straight up^ but also forward, giving the ball even more speed
A good arm swing in my opinion depends on one’s shoulder structure. How the bones and joints are put together. I’ve seen plenty of people who will never have a good arm swing.
Excellent! Now, talking about the ball position, where should a player hit the ball better, slightly charged to the hitting arm or right in front on the body center line, in front of the head? I've been wondering this for a while.
Hey McKibbin bros. These videos are amazing! I have been playing outdoor doubles for quite some time now and have always done well with my three step approach. Is that somethin you guys think I should change? Thanks
hahaha and that's exactly why it was so EPIC.. cause you genuinely believed it. Didn't seemed staged at all. Looking forward to the next few and for sure the training videos, keep dem comming!
Should I also use my arm(tricep) to power through the ball or should the arm be relaxed all the way until contact just transferring the power from the core? Also, is this same technique used during shots? I find when I whip my core during shots I lose a lot of control. Finally, I love your all's videos, it's so hard finding good beach volleyball tutorials on the internet.
Is there specific volleyball workouts you guys do? I’m 5’09” and I’m athletic but a bit overweight for volleyball. My vertical isn’t that great as well as me using my core I cannot whatsoever remember to use my core when I swing
hi guys your videos have been very helpfull for me especially this one...i've managed to perform better spikes but only when the set of the ball is ideal or close to the net ...my question is what happens when the set is not ideal (a bit behind for example) do we perform the same techique? cause most of mine ended on the net..and i still waited at the batter's box and performed the steps you mention in other videos....thx in advance
hi again ...i saw you favourited my comment thanks but i'm a bit confused ...does this mean that in a NON ideal set of the ball (let's say far behind the net but still able to spike) do you perform the same technique??? cause like i mentioned my spikes end up on the net unless i gently pass the ball over the net..i know that's an option but how do you make this harder for the opponent? i'd appreciate an answer out of your experience so i could practice on that more because you know many times you won't have one partner or even if you do the set of the ball might not be ideal everytime thanks again :)
Great videos. M an outside spiker but 50% of my shots are going wide. It does not pitch inside the court. Are there any drills that I can do to snap my wrist during spiking to make the ball pitch down inside court more ? I have been looking for tips.
CLEMENT CU people always talk about snapping your wrist but 90% of the people I see that hit the ball too high, don’t contact the ball on the top, they hit the bottom and it goes flying
Great video, very helpful!! My shoulder flares up pretty quickly after few bad swings. Any additional routines or drills (strengthening exercises, stretches etc) to improve the mechanics & minimize shoulder pain?
You are missing one important point concerning the motion of the forearm. A hint: the neutral wrist - the fastest way to anatomically extend the forearm and pull it across the body.
Hey McKibbin’s and/or Taylor Crabb! Quick question on how you would train for these mechanics, especially if you’ve already been playing a while and may have developed some bad habits. Would you want to train them all-together or in parts so you’re not overwhelmed? And secondly, would you do it by swinging against a wall or actually getting on a court so it’s more apt to the situation you’re actually training for? Thanks!
When we are practicing the full body whip, should we try to think about moving the hip forward and then the shoulders/pec separately (like a whip with its separate parts) or should we just think of it as rotating our right side into the ball? P.S. great vid keep up the good work!
Nice video! One question, I've heard from different coaches that torquing with your hips and upper body is wrong. That we should only open the upper body and torque with the upper body. Any thoughts?
Hey guys. Good video. But can you show us the front (or behind) picture of him hitting the ball and not only the profile...im curious about the position of his spiking hand towards his body...Or you can answer here. Thanks a lot. Because i assume its not completely in one straight line? Okay, nvm i can see it now in 0:17
Thanks guys, great video and really insightful. Quick clarifying question. For right handed hitters, do you finish your swing across your body (left-hand side) or straight down? Thanks!
About that cross body. A fella who was coming up my area had a really powerful swing, and coupled with his good jump he put some good speed and downward angle on that ball. Trouble was, he had taught himself to swing across his body and no other way. Easy to read for those with enough sense to pour piss out of a sneaker. Every single jump, he was telling you where he was hitting. To be fair to him, a few years after I moved away I began reading references to him being a respected and formidable powerhouse, so I guess he was able to evolve and take his place in the upper echelon. More power to you, Paolo, my friend!
spiking a ball is more like an almost instinct kind of thing. When it happens, it just happens. When you spike, you just gotta go with the groove. Pro tip: When spiking, make sure to use form properly. If you keep using the wrong form too often, you can damage your muscles within your arm, making it harder to spike and well...just plain painful. Also, *Keep That Hand Relaxed*
what about exercises to improve my jump and arm flexibility! I am a bit stiff in the shoulders and at 68" I need help jumping; is there a pygmy volleyball league? and yes my favorite game is not 2 on 2 but a short court for 1 on 1!
So I have always had a problem with spiking at highest contact point, and its because I swing across my body because I always seem to not rotate my body completely, so are there any tips to not swing across the body and help get the full rotation to reach the highest contact point?
Question @ the McKibbin Bros: I'm usually touching my neck with my thenar before spiking (so more than the 90 degree of the Nike Swoosh), probably to make sure that I'm not tempted to use my (sore!) shoulder for hitting in any way, which I've done far too long! Is there any downside on that habit?
I have a team working woman who plays for a company inter department game. We could really need your help with a video in receiving served ball the right way..thank you
Hey guys, I have a question regarding follow through. I often cross my body with my hitting arm when following through which tends to shank the ball cross court. How do you suggest remedying the shank habit? Thanks for the tips!
Can you make a video for guys who arent 6 feet?I am 5'5 player and have decent spiking technique but i cant seem to get the BAM factor where i am hitting with max power.
I always grunt unintentionally on a hard swing and thought it was weird, so i'm really happy you guys explained that it's a good thing.
Hey boys ! For the spike, do we have to spike with a big open hand ? And how To roll the ball ?

I definitely pike and have the limp noodle dangling arm with my off-hand.
Thanks
Very good video
Can you make a video for guys who arent 6 feet?I am 5'5 player and have decent spiking technique but i cant seem to get the BAM factor where i am hitting with max power.
How jump on the send to get the maximum high , what is the difference from indoor ? Thanks
Love the beards
would all this information be the same for indoor volleyball???
