A red coat would be fantastic, go for it! Love the style of the Burda one. Take it slowly you will get there. Like you v neck jumper, going to be a good basic. I am also sewing jumpers and cardigans at the moment. Having a cold snap in the UK, even if not up to Norway standards!

@@janevellenderartist Thanks, Jane! I’ll take a deep breath and jump in soon:) Well, even though we are used to colder temperatures, it is a different cold. It is dry, not like the windy, wet kind I have often felt in the UK. Hang in there! ❤️

We have had a snow in the UK and the country has come to a standstill. We don’t cope like Norway! I would find an Indie coat pattern, you need good instructions! Love the idea of a fitted coat. I have only made one coat, the Nova by Papercut. I love it! You will need lots of help, worth buying a new pattern for such a big project. Good luck!

Haha. Well, Mary. I guess we are more used to it. I drive around with a snow shovel in my car boot all winter :) Oh, absolutely. I am more than willing to buy a new pattern, but I just haven't found one that I like as much as the Burda one.

Oh the snow looks so pretty! We’re going through a very very cold snap and the country cannot cope!! 😢
Your coat idea is amazing!! I would adore either a Christmas red or a Hunter Green coat and the ones I love are the Ellie & Mac Jen Polished Vest & Jacket and the By Hand London Rumana Coat. You’re a brave woman attempting a Big 5 coat 😂😂😂😂
Happy sewing and stay warm ❤

I loved the midweek chat ❤❤ And what a lot of snow ❄️. I can see why you want to make cosy warm clothes. We have some snow today in the Netherlands, but nothing compared to other countries. Hope to see you soon, am curious about the progress of the lovely coat.

I am also trying to get the courage to make a coat! Unlike you i haven’t made one before but i have thought about it a lot and of course have fabric in my stash for when i muster up the courage!
Just a thought - perhaps you could look zt the by hand london rumana coat blog posts. They may give you somewhat of a better idea for how to make that more fitted style of coat. Wishing you all the luck with the red coat of dreams! Xx

Thank you! I had completely forgotten about the Rumana coat. I looked at it a couple of years ago, but forgot. It is quite similar to the Burda coat, and I would imagine that the instructions are much (!) better :) Let's get this coat making train going!

A red coat would be stunning on you! I’ve not tried sewing a coat. That was very sweet and considerate of you to mention the hard working folks who plow snow. My oldest does this here in Nebraska. It’s hard long work. He does landscaping in spring-summer-fall and snow removal in winter, along with putting salt down.

    • @madebykarenmarie
      @madebykarenmarie  18 дней назад +2

Oh I know, Amie. It is such hard work! Unpredictable and intense. The guy that comes to plow at my house is worth his weight in gold these days.

Please, Please, PLEASE make your red coat! You can so do it! Look at how you mastered the fit of the Isle Jeans. one step at a time and remember we're all here cheering you on! Your mums pattern and fabric stash must be jaw dropingly (is this even a proper word?) amazing, if the coat pattern is an indication (I love vintage patterns). The view of all that snow is picture perfect but I can see that it also involves hard work, TBH my arms were aching just watching you shovel snow! I haven't made a coat but I am working my way up to it. BUT I just completed two makes, a dress and Skirt (skirt I used a 1983 pattern... I Know... Go me🤣! loved the mid week chat, it was such a lovely surprise...See you soon😊

@@JulieH1958 Thank you for such a lovely encouragement, Julie! ❤️ I am working up my courage here. Oh, I love going through my mother’s pattern stash. There are something from every decate from the early 1960s to the 2010s. Haha.. yes, you get some workouts by shoveling snow here, especially when the sky dumps 50 cm of it at once 😅😊

Ooh, your view is lovely! But 'brrrr'!! Oh gosh, I wouldn't be able to cope with those Burda instructions. I've made the Love Notions Octave Coat and that was a pretty straightforward make, but I wasn't keen on the finished design. I then looked at Wardrobe By Me Classic Coat, made up the lining as the toile, but it just didn't feel comfortable, so I am now in the process (a very long one!) of making up the outer fabric toile for the Atelier Jupe Alex Coat (I've already made up the lining to check for fit). Then I will tackle my expensive wool fabric. Love the Tabor top.

Burda is difficult to follow but I love most of the patterns. But take ur time read the instructions a few times with your favorite cup of tea. See if there are any videos available. Then tackle the project.
I 0:02 don’t think I would have any energy left after shoveling snow.

Thanks! Yes, that has been my struggle, too. I guess a sweater knit would be best. Lisa from Lisa Makes made a red one that she showed on her channel a couple of years ago, and that looked lovely, but I still haven't found the perfect fabric, I think.
