I haven’t tested it, but the ‘CarPlay AI Box’ would be the one to have for adding most Google Play apps. Maybe email them first and find out if Twitch is compatible with the box.
This box isn’t really meant for downloading apps. Just use the ones it comes with. If you found a way to download games, they probably aren’t compatible and that’s why they aren’t showing up
Are you sure it doesn’t also have wired CarPlay? It can have both, but for this device to work it has to have wired compatibility to communicate with the device. Sure if you have AV inputs for your infotainment system. But many only have it in the rear seats. Also Roku wont add wireless CarPlay or Android Auto to your car if you only have wired CarPlay. And you won’t have control of the media with your infotainment touchscreen. Some people may want to connect a usb flash drive with various media and watch/control the content via their infotainment screen. Roku, FireStick, Apple TV, and more are fine but in the example of this vehicle, I could only use those in the rear seats for the screens their with HDMI inputs.

AI Box Lite I found was the most consistent even though it is less powerful. Way less complicated too for the average user. For all the custom app and other stuff, the more expensive one allows you to do that

Initial review of the AI Box Lite that gives Uconnect wireless capabilities and lets you play videos on your screen. It’s just okay. As far as wireless capability goes, it’s adequate. The car’s Bluetooth doesn’t have a slight delay, but this thing does. It’s annoying. The method it uses to connect to the device DRAINS the battery a lot. So unless it’s short trips… you’re still plugging the damn phone in. The videos are slow. I’m going to give it some time to see if maybe it was a fluke, but I’m not hopeful. Overall, I wouldn’t buy it again.
Hey Don, I noticed your CarPlay looked like it was connected to an iPhone. Have you done any research to determine if an Apple TV will work the same way as the Android box?
For any system that uses HDMI input, Apple TV could be an option. But this box uses the wired CarPlay protocol through USB to establish a connection. Also you would beed your apple remote to control everything. For the rear entertainment in the Cadillac, we connect the iphone directly with lightning to HDMI. Not that it is relevant, but Cadillac for 2022 has disabled the rear USB ports to support data. This means the only way to watch things on the TV’s in the back must use HDMI.
@@Donslife I have a question, I have just USB connection, not HDMI, how is the performance of this box to watch videos on the route, are you using hot spot (WIFI) from the phone? ...life is good if you want videos at home in the garage, but what happen when you are on the route?
Keeps saying “check password and try again” when I try to connect my phone hotspot… what the deal?? Can find an answer anywhere. I know the password is correct
It depends on how your steering wheel controls work with CarPlay on your phone. My steering wheel only does volume Everything else is done on the touch screen or the home or back buttons on my infotainment controls
Appreciate the review/option on the box. Since my truck is a lease im limited to what im willing and wanting to mod. This is one of the easiest mods i was able talk the wife into letting her get lol. Thanks 👍
Missing the point maybe? This uses the OEM’s infotainment touch screen and not everyone knows how to jailbreak their phone. This device is about convenience. Plug and play and let it be.
With that being said DO NOT PURCHASE this at all. Other people have also confirmed that theirs stop working after a few uses. Great product for a few uses but not reliable to work forever.
The video cuts during the Netflix and RUclips demos are very suspicious. After reading several 1 star customer reviews, it's clear there are serious issues with connectivity to streaming apps like Netflix and RUclips. Most negative customer reviews have stated "The unit has an overcomplicated and clunky connection for wifi hotspot and streaming apps, which simply stops working soon after a connection is established (requiring another clunky connection attempt). The most cumbersome connection issue is the need for a second phone. This is due to the fact that 1 cellphone is needed to provide a wifi hotspot while the second cellphone is connected to unit and the first cellphones hotspot. This is an absurd connection requirement which this video quickly (and deliberately) "Flew over". The video streaming features of this device are the main interest for customers of products such as these, but this unit barely reaches this ability by use of additional expensive equipment... Namely a second cellphone. This product appears to be another "Swing and a Miss".

which faster and smooth the QUALCOMM OCTA or CARPLAY AI BOX LITE?
AI Box Lite I found was the most consistent even though it is less powerful. Way less complicated too for the average user. For all the custom app and other stuff, the more expensive one allows you to do that
I got my money back from PayPal this is not for Android phones or they sent a old one that wasn't updated for Android, I say this because it kept asking would i like to connect to carplay with my iPhone which i dont own. well it didn't work for me. next time I'll make sure wherever i buy from a company who has a number to call for help something this company didn't have since it's made in outside of the U.S. But I'm glad it worked out for you with your iPhone. ,
Initial review of the AI Box Lite that gives Uconnect wireless capabilities and lets you play videos on your screen.
Thanks for the video. Could you potentially hook an Amazon fire stick into this device?
You’re welcome, but only a usb storage device could be plugged into the usb port on this device.
Look for a head unit with hdmi connections inward?
You should do a video where you take out the upper glovebox, install and iPad and pre download all your movies. 😂
@@Donslife very good points. Thanks for the reply.
@@Donslife I have a question, I have just USB connection, not HDMI, how is the performance of this box to watch videos on the route, are you using hot spot (WIFI) from the phone? ...life is good if you want videos at home in the garage, but what happen when you are on the route?
Great video great gift idea and I’ve asked for 2 :)
Keeps saying “check password and try again” when I try to connect my phone hotspot… what the deal?? Can find an answer anywhere. I know the password is correct
Maybe change the phone’s hotspot password? At least temporarily and retry? Or reset the box
@@Donslife did that, how do you rest box though?
Reset
I haven’t tried, but assuming there would be a way to do a hard reset
I ordered one!
Thanks for continuing to bring interesting content. I enjoy all your DIY content. Keep it going sir. Hi from Green Bay
Thank you sir!! Finding a balance is tricky.
Do the steering wheel controls for volume and next song still work with this?
Any idea?
It depends on how your steering wheel controls work with CarPlay on your phone. My steering wheel only does volume Everything else is done on the touch screen or the home or back buttons on my infotainment controls
Appreciate the review/option on the box. Since my truck is a lease im limited to what im willing and wanting to mod. This is one of the easiest mods i was able talk the wife into letting her get lol. Thanks 👍
Super easy. Just use with some wifi and go
Thank you for this bc I was about to put all kinda stuff on my car, this my first car I’m leasing btw
Whoa! I want!
A great road trip companion
still xpensiveAF lol..need it to be 99$cdn
I don’t think you’ll get these things for that cheap this decade
Has yours held up? Honestly. Mine stopped working after one day. I wouldn't recommend this product.
Sorry to hear. Mine loads up each time I start the vehicle. Same with the full featured model when I plug it in. Maybe you received a faulty unit
@@Donslife I reached out to the company. I'll just have to wait and see how it's handled.

Why can’t I find the web site
It is linked in the video description
You can jailbreak your phone and get this without paying $300 USD
F150 12 inch screen. Does it do whole screen?
It will only fit in the same area that an iPhone’s CarPlay currently uses
