  • Second in a series of videos covering the process of bringing this very fine Honda Dream 50 replica racer back to life after sitting for 20 years or so. In this part we get stuck into the braking system.
In this episode we check out the brakes and find everything to be completely seized up.
The 1997 Honda CB50V Dream 50 AC15 is relatively rare. These were a Japanese market street legal version of the Dream 50R race-only version sold in the US in 2004. These DOHC four valve singles were meant as a tribute to the RC110 factory 50cc racers and the 1962 CR110 production racing bikes

A lot of these bikes are sat unused for years in collections and museums a light recommissioning like you are doing is all that is needed. The bike will run without a battery but it powers the rev counter at low rpm so you may see the rev counter looking like it's faulty but it's not. I would remove the takegawa CDI and test without before making the free wiring modification and selling on the takegawa CDI, see how much they are selling for on Jauce Japan auctions you will be surprised. Also the front mudguards on every one I have seen have dings as they catch easily on passing objects or when the front forks move after parking .

Got a grease gun? Put a grease nipple in the bleed hole, plug the hose union hole and pump grease it. That will get the pistons out.

Hey, good idea. I'll try that on our next session and see if we can make it work. They are extremely tight in there, so if it doesn't then I'm going to be ripping them out in a more violent manner. I've got new pistons and rebuild kits coming in the post.
