- The charity Karma Nirvana is launching the #Push4Change campaign on International Women's Day, urging the government to urgently introduce a statutory definition for Honour Based Abuse.
The campaign is being supported by the mother of a woman who was murdered by her husband in a notorious case of honour abuse and coercive control. The murder of Fawziyah Javed was made into a documentary on Channel 4 this week - “The Push” which detailed the story of the murder and the trial of her killer husband. Despite three decades of increased awareness, addressing Honour Based Abuse is hindered by the lack of a clear statutory definition says Karma Nirvana.

My heart goes out to this family. I watched this documentary yesterday and Fouziya had such a beautiful personality, any family would’ve loved to have a wife or a daughter in law like her. She looked so vibrant, full of life and fun to be around sort of person. He destroyed their family because of his ego thanks to his parents

@@lamusica1592 from the evidence presented it is quite clear her family new how violent and abusive he was, there were plenty of red flags, but instead of pulling her out of that situation, no ifs , no buts she was put at risk whilst pregnant. Just awful.

Fawziyah was a beautiful lady inside and out. Fawziyah was an inspirational lady . Fawziyah stood for justice and humanity. Fawziyah was full of life and positivity. I hope the monster that did this never comes out of prison. I am sending my love to Fawziyah's family

It sounds wrong to call ‘The Push’ a true-crime documentary, but it was one of the best documentaries I have ever seen in that genre. Educated the viewers without showing too much, and focused more on the victim rather than the murderer which is right and compassionate. My heart goes out to the family, keep fighting the good fight ❤

I remember this Sikh lady Nina Amoulak, she went through the most horrific abuse from her own family and she said herself stop saying honour in the crime, instead say what they really tried to do to her which was attempted mrdr. When it gets tagged as a culture thing, the sentencing is always less.
Am an Indian migrant and fed up to the back teeth with this cultural traditional values. Just an excuse to keep everyone under control and the need to maintain communities. Why have they chosen the UK or West. Stay home and practice your culture. Arranged marriage another tradition amongst Asians a brazen scam so that extended families communities and entire villages use it to get out of poverty and Western citizenship.

A friend of mine was in a relationship with a man not from the same faith or culture and her life was threatened. This is unacceptable, in Britain every person has the freedom to choose who they want as a partner without having to face hostile treatment.
Am and Indian migrant believe me it is very common and acceptable to parents and communities. Sikhs marrying Sikhs, Hindus marrying within their caste, Muslims ditto and so it goes. All arranged marriages are scams for one thing only to get Western citizenship and money or better life.
Dua for the fawziyah and sabr for her family 🤲🤲we nearly went down that road we had the same with our daughter too but thank god our daughter took the step of enough was enough thank god ours is alive with us we support her all the way through thick and thin.sad very very sad for mam and dad of fawziyah RIPs no parent should go through that anywhere in the world ..
Watched the documentary last night and it was so incredibly emotional. I was in floods of tears so I can’t imagine how her family are feeling. Their strength is incredible and I hope that her daughters story saves the lives of other women. More needs to be done to raise awareness about this issue

My best friend got abused at 18 i witnessed her fella beating her up..the bruises which she denied..sadly she died in a car crash with him in the car till this day i will never know if he pulled the wheel off her..he used to do it all the time when she was driving..he survived and has moved on..hes an evil person..he took my best friend away from me
My brother in law was a narcissistic sociopath, we saved our sister from her ex husband thankfully with the help of Bedfordshire police. I'll never forget how the emerald team took swift action when we needed them. My advice to anyone going through abuse, LOG IT. From the moment the first abuse happens, make a note of it so you have a timeline, because it escalates VERY fast and if the police have the timeline they can do something.
If the person who is suffering dont have the courage to tell it then what should they do

It's ridiculous that the poor woman went back to her husband after abuse, to try to talk him in to returning 12,000 pounds. Her parents should have told her, "Forget the money, just get out of there!". And the police gave her poor advice.

It's not about the money it's about the principle. And its not as easy as just getting out of a marriage, especially as a woman due to the emotional attachment and 'wanting to make their marriage work'. The ifs and buts won't make the situation any better for anyone. Women are wired differently than men. Alot of it is brushed under the carpet in hope that he will see her love eventually . It's a shame. A young life has been taken due to a controlling typical narcissistic man who couldn't control himself, let alone be capable of respecting someone who takes the most amazing title of being your wife.

I was in a abusive marriage for 19yrs years, people need to be educated on this because people have said to me y did u leave it so long and should have just left first thing ur not in that situation u dont know how it feels to be in that situation, until u go through it u will never know how it feels, rip angel 😢❤

I was 8 months pregnant when my husband abused me physically. The west Midlands police failed me. They stated i dont have an independent witnesse to prove he did it so they let him off. If abuse happens again i am more likely not to report it. They said they will support me. They instead called the social services because i had 2 other small children in the home. The system is a disgrace......these women are dying because of system failing them.

How terrifying that the Interviewer, who says he is from the same community, hears of this all the time and from many families!! I find that really shocking, the women of this community need to make a stand against this! My heart goes out to Fawziyahs family, may she rest in peace!

Its such a shame because unlike some other families, fawziyas parents and family really wanted her back... but she had been so coerced to feel to stay.
Who was coercing her stay? that does not make sense, she was there only child, greatly loved, at the first red flag they should have broken off the engagement, if not then there where multiple incidences when it was clear this guy was extremely abusive and violent and capable of being violent and vicious.

Why did he throw a wedding party 4 months after the wedding?
Did he use the 12k to throw that wedding party?
He was abusive swearing when they went to get rings why was he allowed to think thats acceptable?
Why does his dad think hes entitled to the ring?
He put a pillow on her face and punched it why did the mother allow her daughter to go back to this abuse. That 12k was not worth the damage it done.
Why did the uncle send a message saying dont tell us about your inlaws keep stuff to yourself.
Why was a thourgh investigation not carried out by the family to find out what kind of guy he was when they saw him swearing in the car. Too many unanswered questions

It’s known as an honour killing when multiple family members are in on it. Domestic is one on one. Her mother apparently had ample opportunity to intervene.

She is denying that culture has nothing to do with it but culture do affect the social behaviour of people.

Thank you, this is widespread and more needs to happen to prevent this from happening. Yes thete might be nuances and specifics but across culture there are dangerous toxic perpetrators who are either brought up to have a disregard for women and girls or could be victims of their own trauma. Lets not be short sighted about that. This is everyone's business because it can happen to anyone.

As a muslim you're right. Me and my sister just consider ourselves blessed to not be born into one of these families. There was a girl in my aunts village back home that I was friends with as a kid. When she was a teenager a guy sent a video of her and himself kissing to her brother to embarrass her and her family almost threw her off a cliff. If it wasn't for my aunts family stepping in and saving her she'd literally be dead. It's so scary

On occasions one cannot prove if the family member was murdered? Lack of appropriate law and time limitations to looking into the case? When incidents happen families are emotionally upset losing loved ones , only as time passes you begin to question ❓ what could have happened and why? unfortunately by then it's way too late to open the case
Why let her go back to a dangerous situation because of money? Use Police and Bank systems to make claim and stay away from abusers.

This poor girl was in a violent relationship with a Narccisst, who co-erced her. It's happens to women all over the UK from different communities and socio economic backgrounds. It's not an Honour Based. If her parents knew why did they let her go back.
