    Hi Shawn!
    Please do more detailed video on this topic - shown at 11:55. This is my big issue and this is the way I understood arm swing. Everytime I was trying to swing arms completly body independent - free. Big aha moment for me. My interpretation of free armswing went extreme.
    I think that its not only my issue. THNX Václav

    Hope you come to Frankfurt soon!

    I finally got the sensation of that weightless feeling at the top of the backswing and at follow through. I only got it after doing the perpetual motion drill a little while and the better I get at it, the faster and more effortless I can get my swing to be. I've never had a coach so I've had to figure this out on my own with your help of course Shawn. I just got it like 2 weeks ago and I've been "playing" for 20 years now! I just just never understood that was how it was supposed to feel. It's amazing when you finally feel what you've been missing all this time and you realize "you are not defective". I've only played twice since I grasped this and already I'm hitting amazing shots and added probably 30mph clubhead speed to my swing. Now I can really begin to play golf! It's an exciting feeling to know you're only scratching the surface of your game and potential. Thankfully, all the less than exciting swiping and positional nonsense I've done for 20 years hasn't been totally wasted. It's been reps put in and has solidified my fundamentals like proper grip and general comfort handling a golf club which have all made transitioning to the gravity swing that much easier. Thank you Shawn Clement!

    The 'disconnection' on top of the backswing feels super comfortable.

      We do everything this way! to “connect the armpit” would be to turn your swing or throw into how a T-REX would do it!! WHICH IS NOT VERY WELL!!

    Thanks Shawn for clarifying this. I have just figured it out yesterday. The way we set up and focus at the ball just made golf harder than it should be because the way we set up and hitting the ball is completely different. The motion and position to hit the ball is just like baseball or tennis. Other sports is easier or not misleading because our body facing the target on the setup. Simplify golf swing by getting body out of the way and facing the target so hands can move freely is the better way.

      so youre saying, open at address... which is what Bubba does on all his shots... he is open at address on all his shots and is easily, longest off the tee at any event he plays... can shape the ball anway he wants and is set up for the fade every shot... he is very wristy, and he himself will tell you its all feel, but he is open at address on every shot... im talking with his feet... his setup is open... allows the body to work through the shot more easily... add that, with the wrist action and youll bomb it like bubba

    I'm subscribed to your channel and I love it by the way. Thank you for all the great content. I'm a self taught golfer. I started golfing 5 years ago but blew two discs out in my lower back that put me away from golfing till this year. It didn't take me too long to get back into where I had left off. I think I swing pretty much like how you explain we should. My back swing looks a lot like Bubba's I think. I just went to have a swing evaluation with GolfTec out here in BC Canada and I am not impressed at all with what the guy had to say afterwards. He pretty much told me to change the way I was swinging. Told me to not over rotate, not lift my left foot up at all, not have my hands/club above my head on my back swing etc.. In my back swing I rotate a lot to where my back is pretty much facing the target. My left foot comes up off the ground like you explain and like how Bubba, Jack, Ben Hogan, Daley swing etc... It's where I feel I naturally gather all my power from like coiled up torque. I hit my 7 iron 176 consistently with a club head speed of 88 and carry my drive 260-265 with a total drive usually between 275-280 ish and a club head speed of 110/112 . So I am very happy with my power and length I hit. I don't want to change any of that stuff in my swing and I told the guy that after the swing analysis was done. He was trying to sell me multiple thousands of dollars in lessons. I was pretty pissed afterwards. If you ever make your way out to BC I'd love to meet you and hire you for some lessons/play a round with you or two. Thanks again for all the great content!

    Shawn I've been following you for about 6 months now and I belive your ability to put golf into simple terms is awesome...
    But i have a question you mention in several of your driver videos how Moe Norman was one of the best stikers of the golf ball and probably one of the straightest , so why don't you teach his one plain method and also keep both feet planted as Moe's did you seem to use part of his set up IE drive position but again not ball position cut you please explain why .
    And im not criticizing I'm just curious that's all .
    Keep thd videos coming and I hope you see your daughter on thd Tour one day ...

    The longest drive I hit was when my back swing was quick..hips, upper body, arms...quicker than my usual tempo.. so when I need to launch the ball higher and gain a few yards I do this move.

    Hi Shawn - you said something at 6:59 that caught my attention - "all i have to do is go wide in the direction i want the ball to go, and then release my swing in that direction" - so essentially, the back swing is drawing the line directly _opposite_ of where the ball will start (curvature will be based on club face at impact)? I guess i never thought about it that way - i was always thinking the backswing was collecting power going around me, and the *through-swing* was the one giving the starting direction of the ball itself. interesting...

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  6 лет назад

      There are no straight lines innthe golf swing; so yes, it is an arc but a nice wide one that is acquired without strain. Feel that the momentum of the swing is moving in the direction you want the ball to start; that means the backswing should match that!

    • @davidtheobald502
      @davidtheobald502 6 лет назад

      Oh sorry I wasn't meaning to dispute line vs. arc, but rather that the backswing is helping dictate the starting line/arc of the ball was a new thought to me - i was always thinking the downswing was in charge of that. But it makes sense the backswing arc/line and the downswing arc/line need to be married up!

    Shawn, hard as I try to start my hipturn before my downswing, when I am back to the ball my hips are still facing the ball instead of slighly turning towards target..I can work the ball pretty well but I don't get alot of distance...

      Go to my “throwing the club shawn clement” and find a safe place to throw some old steel shafted clubs; then film yourself from face on and down the line throwing clubs to a specific target; you will be amazed at the positions your body achieves! Then see “predict solid contact and direction shawn clement” and “how to put the ball in the way of your swing shawn clement golf wrx” and enjoy the new skills!

    For me, I have to expect the connection or timing the body and arm so they are in sync at the contact moment . It's not for free to me.

      You are wasting your time focusing on timing for impact as the ball is not the target; the target is the target!! Focus on timing to the target!

    When executing the 'Wisdom In Golf' philosophy, with the wide momentum toss, (ala Bubba Watson) and allowing my left heel off the ground (slightly) in the backswing, frequently moves me off my center. Thusly leading to inconsistent ball striking. Any advise or drills for maintaining my center, and the continued power generating whip through the ball? Thanks...

    The importance of EXTERNAL FOCUS in motor learning.
    golfsciencelab.com/external-focus/
    "I think it is really critical that golf instructors try to minimize references to body movements; not just golf instructors but anybody who teaches motor skills. (Shawn does this well instinctively!)
    Any reference to body parts have been shown to be detrimental to performance and learning; it’s as simple as that.
    When you focus on body movements, you consciously try to control your movements and the result is that you constrain your motor system, meaning there will be unnecessary co-contractions between agonists and antagonists, and even superfluous contractions in other muscles as well.
    That disrupts the fluidity of the movement, and people use more energy than necessary, and accuracy of their movements is degraded and so forth. Now, when you use external focus, you use more automatic control processes which are unconscious, much faster, and as a result, movements are more efficient, more fluid, smoother, and more accurate.
    So, performance and learning is facilitated and sped up."

      Thank you so much for chiming in and let’s now get Brandel Chamblee up to speed so that people who try what he is preaching don’t go “nah, doesn’t work, I tried those body part positions and did not get the results he was talking about...”

    Shawn, everyone is talking about this young man. He has a 3 quarter swing and hits a mile. I am interested because I think no one can analyze his swing right. People are talking about his back bending and this and that. I think he is in the right set up. Tony Finau. Why do Pro. get up on their toes during their swing?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  5 лет назад +2

      They are unaware that their centre of gravity moves forward in the downswing or the backswing and then they need to get up higher from being closer to the ball than they were at address; we just finished fixing this with Savannah’s swing; very happy about that!
