    Eureka moment just now for me......your slow takeaway starting at 12:08 (a la Ryan Moore) is FANTASTIC for feeling the weight of the club head, feeling the weight shift and absolutely feeling like you can crush the ball with the club+arm weight...From now on I'm going to swing slow to go far. Thanks Shawn!

    Moe was amazing! I tried to play Natural Golf the Moe Norman way, I bought the clubs, studied Moe but I never really got it 100% but it did get me playing golf again. I've watched every Moe video I could ever find. They called him pipeline Moe. He always talked about hitting it straight. I'm sure he could fade/draw it with the best of them. Why didn't he? Or why don't we try to hit it straight more than fade/draw? was his 91% because he always hit it straight? Thank you.

And this video, I hope, will finish unlocking my driver issues. All I want is straight (aka in play), as I have some distance, but this will hopefully increase my accuracy AND unlock my distance potential. Thank you and of course Moe!

      Here is what else was working for me... taking the club back with the left arm staying close to my chest... turning body and arm back together... got more torque and it felt like more control. No big separation of arm and chest...both turning together. Along with the reaching more for the ball I set up more athletically... more knee bend, weight toward heels, and more forward lean and tried to keep that lean throughout the swing because I saw a lot of pros doing this. Your thoughts?

    Watched some Moe Norman videos as per your motivation.
    The other day on the course I played with a gentleman who had the most peculiar swing. I kept thinking to self: where have I seen that swing before . Of course it was a Moe Norman swing . My, MN , partner did fairly well most of the round , hitting straight down fairway then I think from fatigue late in round started scooping at the ball . When i spoke with him later I asked : Are you a Moe Norman fan ? He smiled and said , yes I am , how did you know ? Sharing this to let you know .....it s fun to be a little wiser from getting wisdom from WIG ! I ll be sending him here , just letting him get a little more frustrated on the range . I know that sounded awful .........but , hey ...............it was a money round !

    I just posted video with Moe swing. I am more than happy with the result, with the ball flight, with the impact (anyone can watch my ball flight footage in my channel).
    Consider :
    It was my first time at range with it. I am maybe 28 handicap (if not higher). Going to range only once in three to six months. But next time I go to course I am sure I can make lower score.
    But with Moe swing, I believe I can hit straight anytime. Thanks Moe.
    Sure, more videos will come in my channel.

    You can’t take just one aspect of Moe’s swing and expect to hit it like Moe. There are many other keys to his swing that are vital to its success including grip body tilt foot position bent lead knee and trail foot remaining on the ground through impact to name a few

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  Год назад +1

      Yes, and I teach all of the above and not because it’s Moe, it’s because they are natural human movement patterns. You just can’t throw all this in one video; it would take up the whole day and nobody in their right mind would watch or be able to listen that long. I have it all in bite sized and organized segments on our premium channel.

    Before I got laid up for surgery I actually tried to adapt a little bit of Moe Norman's set up I actually eliminated the left side of the fairway pretty much straight, just setting up where when you set the club down your wrist has that little bend in that snuffbox with the left-hand I just kind of straighten the wrist and took it back makes a world of difference

    You do a great job of promoting how to pay attention to your body and how it feels!! Lately I've been working on the position you get into at 10:22 where you keep your hip from sliding back on the backswing, and your knee is pointing away from the target. This resulting in being very planted on your back leg.

    • @markhumphrey8894
      @markhumphrey8894 4 года назад

      Look at 9:18. I think as the club bottoms out about 6" behind the ball, yes the ball is 1/2 above the face, but as the club travels more forward it starts to rise and when you contact the ball it is perfectly in the middle of the club face. I fully understand this now. Great instruction.

  • @renfrewwu168
    @renfrewwu168 7 лет назад

    This makes perfect sense @shawn do you know why most tour players don't see value in this and still tee up the ball and the driver clubhead is right behind the ball. I never seen any one of them apply this principle. It just makes me wonder why

    Great vid Shawn, really enjoyed as I am new to Moes style of swing but my father plays in this manner with good consistency. I however prefer Fred Couples style which is basically the complete opposite of what you do, he's got an aggressive angle straight down with the hands from the top and gives himself time to shallow the club, but this equates to a very relaxed shot with high club head speed, why is Moes swing better?

    Shawn, thanks for your terrific videos. Quick question. The sternum being low point for the swing makes perfect sense in the context of driver and catching it on the upswing... But why for irons is the ball position then not slightly back of the sternum to get ball-first contact? In your "Awareness in Low Point of Swing" video, trying to hit a fade, the ball looks far far forward of your sternum. What move should be getting the sternum ahead of the ball for irons?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  7 лет назад +1

      Watch out for static thinking; understand that when you set the swing in motion, the brain needs to go grab the ground with the lead leg to deliver the release towards the target; see "sequence your swing properly shawn clement" and "throwing the club shawn clement"
      Now, for draw, the ball is back of centre and fade slightly forward of centre at address; but you are getting ready to make a dynamic swing to go to a target and not at the ball...

    There is one unique difference in Moe's set-up. He keeps his club next to the ball and immediately shifts it to around 6-8 inches above and behind the ball. Also, with this set-up, the club head face is around 30 deg to the right of the target. Does this set-up promote in-to-out swing to get the ball in the fairway? There is no explanation on the benefit other than his own remark that it reduces the back swing. You keep the club head 6-8 inches away but facing the ball. Any insight on Moe's unique set-up?

    What i noticed with your swing is your center (sternal notch) is really behind the ball all through contact. Which is where I have issues. My drives accuracy, i feel depends largely if im able to stay behind the ball.

    • @ObviousArtists
      @ObviousArtists 5 лет назад

      Youll close the club face later with the longer shaft hence staying behind the ball gives more time for the clubface to close through the tracking. Move the ball back or get more infront the clubface is still open....likely

    • @ObviousArtists
      @ObviousArtists 5 лет назад

      Could really use an overhead slowmo to correlate the clubface closing vs the position of the tee.

      Lean back further at address like Moe. Experiment with the angle. Further lean back promotes a draw or straight. More upright promotes a fade. Todd Graves recommends 15 degrees lean but change angle to suit your body and swing.

  • @markhumphrey8894
    @markhumphrey8894 4 года назад

    Ohh this is good. The center of the swing is the sternal notch. So, if you set up the driver with the center of sternal notch at the bottom of the swing then the ball will just naturally be forward and you will hit on the up swing! You should not need to do any crazy lateral movement. Just swing the club and bottom out behind the ball. And for irons just bottom out in front of the ball!

      Getting stuck with too much tilt; too much weight on the back foot trying to tilt too much and getting stuck on the back foot trying to hit too hard is a common one; you want to feel that your peak speed is well past the ball into the direction you want to start the ball.

      That I could not tell you; Mark Evershed could because he repeated the stat in one of his videos in the 90’s in the “legendary Moe Norman” video series.

      It only Appears this way from where you are looking! Everyone I show sees this and to them it looks closed like crazy to them at address; the important part is when you let the club release you in the direction you want to start the ball, that the ball flies the way you want it to;
      We have an amazing off season training series on the premium channel or sold individually on our website for download which has 20 sequenced sessions for solid devellopment in predicting ball contact, initial direction and curvature. REALLY ESSENTIAL STUFF TO PLAY THIS GAME TO YOUR POTENTIAL!

    Hi Shawn, why isn't there too many players swinging like Moe. Is it too hard to learn or teach?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  6 лет назад +1

      I swing like Moe; Ben Hogan swung like Moe; I am a 6 feet 1 inch version with short arms; Moe’s arms were longer than mine and he was 5 feet 8 inches. We will look different at address, but if you look at Moe when he was in his 30’s, his swing looked a lot like mine! :). It is all about using the human machine to perform tasks; and Moe loved the hammer analogy!

    • @whetedge
      @whetedge 6 лет назад +1

      Shawn, I don't see how you "swing like Moe Norman", not even in his younger days. You allow your hips to open up with the torso rotation, allowing for little separation between your hips and shoulders at the top. Norman restricted his hips in the backswing, creating about 45 degrees separation. Your right elbow moves considerably away from your rib cage at the top. Norman kept his tucked close throughout. Those are two very different type swings.

      I have started holding my driver off the ground at address and I am really punishing it in the sweet spot instead of hitting the top of the face. Tee height wasn't the real issue it appears.

      i hate to be a ping homer, but Shawn is absolutely correct. the ping iblades are the best blades in the market right now, hands down. i have tested many sets and there is no comparison, distance, forgiveness and feel the iblade trumps them all. for a blade the amount of forgiveness offered is off the charts. as for the feel, don't let the mizuno forged advocates have you drinking their kool aid.

    Shawn - quick question. I was playing with this on the range the other day. I found that with a really high tee (I was used to hitting driver with a tee that exposed half the ball above the driver at address), impact with the ball was much further along in the arc. Or in other words, the club face was more closed using the same grip as with a shorter tee. Do you adjust your grip when you move to a really high tee? Maybe just do the "acid test" and play with grip to get it right? Thanks!

    Moe looks like he aimed right and hit a bit of a pull with his driver. Is this due to since he’s hitting ball on upswing his swing path is going left? Also I am almost certain I have seen you do a video on purposely hitting a pull with a driver for added distance? Do you remember title of it?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  5 лет назад

      Terrific comment! Yes!!
      You are correct in saying that with a ball position farther forward, there would be a tendency to pull, and to aim more right; also the diagonal stance is more prevalent with that longer shaft too! See “hogan reflections diagonal stance shawn clement” video

    This is all common practice when hitting the driver...nothing especially different that explains his high percentage. By the way you explain it (and you do explain it well) he is simply doing what all other pros do... hit up on it and position the ball in the stance correctly. In my opinion that makes the title of the video incorrect and misleading. I’m guessing what this guy actually does is club down more than the average player.

    • @wreckim
      @wreckim 6 лет назад

      Not all pros hit so UP on the ball though. Some actually tee it up quite low, surprisingly...for better control. They are so talented, they utilize their 'iron' swing a little into their driver swing. For example, James Hahn, we followed him at the LA Open, and he still blasted it 300. The modern professional game has little to give us now IMO...but videos like this are much more suited to the average golfer and Moe was old school in his own way of course.

    • @ag358
      @ag358 6 лет назад

      Did you push play and leave the room. This swing utilizes gravity and the force of the swing in a target oriented swing. A TARGET ORIENTED SWING. Very powerful, very repeatable
