Interesting side fact to Thin Ice -- John brought his Beatle-era 1958 Rickenbacker 325 guitar to the studio on Dec 4th and overdubbed the insane manic solo. Both he and Producer Jack Douglas agreed that the song needed this edge, so they planned to do a final remix of Thin Ice on Dec 8th, 1980. The rest is history....but the last recorded instance of John playing guitar was on his historic Rickenbacker (Originally blonde wood, refinished black) that he made famous during the early Beatle years.....yes, the same guitar that was played at every Beatle concert in the UK, USA, Hamburg Germany and around the world from 1960-64 (Lennon was gifted a new 1964 version (black) by Rickenbacker at that time -- the same day he turned down Rickenbacker's first 12 string guitar and told them to give it to George (who was sick at the hotel in NY that day) since he would better know how to utilize "the wonderful sounds it offered". George used that guitar a lot in the Hard Day's Night soundtrack and on a few other songs in 1965. Later, in 1966, John started playing the larger Epiphone Casino, thus retiring from Rickenbacker guitars. The original 1958 Ricky was restored in the 1970's by a New York guitar shop that John frequented (great story of that is online).
This version, re-edited by Joseph Watt, was on the B-side of the 12-inch remix version of "Cape Clear" (1985) from Yoko Ono's "Starpeace" album. What a marvel this version is.
Wow! I lost this masterpiece of a song so long ago, and have been looking for it for a long time. Finally, I have found my heart song through you SoulStylistJukeBox. I thank you for this, profusely. Yoko Ono was such a crackball for so long that very few people came even close to liking her. Then along came her beautiful Beau, John Lennon. Even the rest of The Beatles despised her weird presence. Me, I love it. I love Yoko Ono solely because of this master song. Thank you, John Lennon, for helping your spirit-wife create such a strong song, almost as hip as you, sung with such pathos and agony, and a ferocious beat that wins over the day (and the night)! AYK!AYK!AYK!AYK!AYK!AYK!AYK!AYK!AYK!AYK!
Mixed only......the song was already recorded but John felt it was missing something. Lennon brought his Beatle-era 1958 Rickenbacker 325 guitar to the studio on Dec 4th and overdubbed the insane manic feedbacky solo. (The 325 is a semi-hollow body guitar, excellent for feedback). Both he and Producer Jack Douglas agreed that the song needed this bizarre edge, so they planned to do a final remix of Thin Ice on Dec 8th, 1980. @@maxfrudd7666 Iv tried sliding up the neck for the first note on the E A and D strings and then hitting various bar chords with the whammy bar, with the amp distorted too but I don’t know exactly how he played that part, fun trying to figure it out though 😂
Great song, haunting guitar, definitely 10 years ahead of its time!! Well done Yoko & John!
They have 3 other big names on this, John only did some Lead.
It was the rage of the cavernous dance halls that year

If only double fantasy had been more like this, definitely a better album was ahead
It’s a great album and Yoko’s songs on it were like this. “Give Me Something” and “Every Man” for example

Rocking out to Yoko and John on a Friday night. ❤
Listening to my idol last recording before he was taken from us.
I can't stomach the pain. Yoko Ono gave us this. " I knew a girl....."
I wonder if she knew about it
@@j.c7719 I was quoting the song
The bit around 4.30 min where it sounds like she's trying to throw up always makes me burst out laughing....lol
Outstanding!!!!🥰🥰👍👍👍
This is the version I've been looking for. Why are there so many different mixes of this song lol
Maybe there’s so many versions because it has a versatile melody? Idk
This is the one released on OnoBox
I agree. So many versions, it's more difficult to find the correct version.
This is the original version, released in 1980 ruclips.net/video/3S60k3TQNCQ/видео.html

Way cool ice, baby ❤
Love this song ♥

She's so talented
I remember this song on the radio. Was so cool.
"ai!" means Harmony in Japanese. Ai Ai Ai Ai Ai Ai....Very ironic, very Yoko.

It’s an amazing tune!
Nice version but I still like the original long version the best. Final recording by John Lennon. He was killed while holding the tapes.
Great song..johns last studio work..apart from street of dreams..

This was John Lennons last song he played in , he was the bass player. RIP Beatle 😢
No. He plays rhythm and the solo. Earl Slick's on lead and Tony Levin's on bass.
@@evanwright9016 , Lennon played rhythm guitar and guitar solo, plus synth bass and leads thru a Prophet 5 synthesizer (original mix).

Fukushima is a nice place..
They tidied up this version a lot to make her sound remotely musical. Cool though.
Exactly 👍
It's called production. Pretty standard.
You can’t make someone sound musical if they are not musical. Compare your music credentials with Yoko’s and you don’t stand a chance.
