  • Heath "Alpha Dog" Baker from Predator Tactics Inc. talks about the best time to hunt coyotes at night. We're not just talking about a time of night - Health discusses atmospheric conditions that impact the thermal optics like rain and humidity as well as environmental conditions that impact coyote behavior like wind. Time of year is also a factor Heath discusses.

Most of our success has been 30 minutes after sunset until around 2-3 hours after. Killed them all night long, but more early rather than late. Awesome info. Love your videos!

I can’t really say that a certain time of night is better then others. I have killed a lot of coyotes between an hour after sundown and midnight. So that is probably my favorite time . Last night we killed 4 between midnight and 3 am. 🤪 I love your videos !!! Also what state do you mostly hunt in?

I've found that in my area that twilight is the golden hour. Either dusk or dawn I've killed doubles and even a couple of quads when armed with a modern semi sporter. I've also noticed that whenever I have someone take me to a stand in a utv, truck, or atv and then they leave I have killed more than just walking to the set. May be a grey area for my location but it's something that I have kept in my notes time and time again

I know it is a weird time, but here in WI I've found about 2 to 3 am is when they are really on the move and come right in to the call.

Also in Wisconsin, I have good luck half hour before sundown in some spots. Than it just gets better as the night goes on.

But as a beginning night hunter Trying to learn this stuff I find your videos very educational I've been doing it for about 8 years and they're tough man like a leather boot. Just subscribed tonight to your channel keep up the good workman I like this you're putting it the way that everybody can understand.

I am in Michigan and by noeams an expert...just addicted lol. I think it matters most on where the dogs are at different times. If you are close to bed then that will be best early and late. Not as good to call a big open field 15 min after dark as it may be at 2 am after they are out and hunting. I have definitely noticed some sits responses and sighting are better at certain times and not others. I just think that's when they are closest to that set.

Works best in eastern South Dakota to wait till sun down. But when is the best time in the winter to call coyotes in…a day after a super windy night?

The ones I've caught coming up to the house here in South Texas were showing up between 12 a.m and 4 a.m.

Midnight to 2:30 here on the east coast. I live on a farm with dozens of types of fruits and vegetables growing almost year round.
Another thing I’ve noticed that attracts younger coyotes is plastic irrigation lines. They love to chew on them. They must damage thousands of dollars of drip line every year here (Knotts Island, NC).

Ive figured out at my place wait for the first howl, usually at dusk, then shut the porch light off and get comfy in the patio chair and take them from the back deck, lol

My fiancé and I have pictures of coyotes and packs of coyotes from our game cameras during the day (which is non-patterning due to mornings and afternoons pics of them), so we usually go at night (leave the house around 7ish on our golf cart), set up our decoys and call box, then park somewhere that we have view of most entrances in front of us. Once set up and ready, we’ll wait for 5-10 minutes before calling

Summer months I go out from midnight to daylight. I have killed most of the coyotes in fields not even turning on my call at around 4am. Really pressured around the house so coyotes feel safe that time of morning because most people stop around 2am.

It’s interesting how nobody really touches on geography. Yotes are individuals they all respond differently. Especially in different parts of the country.
