My 2013 acura mdx mysteriously has an oil leak and needs crankshaft seal replaced. This all happened after mechanic replaced oil pan. Cud tech have damaged seal somehow?

What is the drill and bit doing exactly thanks

The drill bit(1.5mm diameter) makes a very tiny hole on the seal so that the screw can start to get in.

@b.k.automotiveservices9489 That is a great way to damage the camshaft and the bore. Which will cause the new seal to leak oil past it. Defeating the entire purpose. Use the proper tool. A shaft type seal puller. It will be much faster and easier without risk of damage. This is coming from a factory trained Honda technician.

Mate, it's easy to say so when you don't know anything about a car. I have never failed to exchange the seal for more than 10 years, and always use this method.

If you are well experienced mechanic, you might know you cannot use the oil seal puller sometimes due to the location of the oil seal. This way is very useful when you need to replace oil seals located in tricky area, and I have never made any damage when carrying out the task. Can you explain what's wrong with this method?

You are right. If there is a large room, it is not necessary to use this method. However, I have a proper seal puller(not few dollars, it's more than 30 bucks), and I have realised that it doesn't work all the time for me. Therefore, I prefer to use this way, and there have been no problem so far. The reason why I am angry about your comment is that I have never charged twice to the customer due to the problem caused by my mistake!!!

I cannot remember the seal size as it's been a long time since I worked on this. The seal is supplied by Mitsubishi dealer.

Just spend 5 bucks and buy a seal puller!

I also have a variety of seal pullers or removers. However, there was not enough space to use the tools. Additionally, this way is safer than using a puller as it doesn't make any scratch on the shaft surface.

Doesnt work i promise, the seal is too weak at the face for my application at least
