It happened the same with me, the car was making a noise coming from inside the engine, and when I took it to maintenance, they found out that the crankshaft seal was in bad shape, oil all over the place, the belt was starting to deteriorate.
I noticed when idling the battery gauge goes down and when turning on any accessories such as radio , lights or AC. Now car is smoking. I just had an oil change and the young man at an instant change place had difficulty getting the oil filter off . Also the air filter was checked and they failed to seat the air filter or even screw back on the cover. It was still laying loose. I left the lot like that and quickly went back and actually had to figure it out on my own as the kids did not know . I knew what had been done and pointed at air filter and saw the cover laying loose on top. So that was resolved. But due to all that happening I’ve been keeping an eye on my gauges really closely. Hardly have driven the car since getting the oil change and now it’s smoking just behind passengers front windshield . It smells like oil burning. And a small puddle leaked suddenly after starting the car under neath towards the front end. I got out to intentionally look for leaks as I was trying to diagnose. Normally never leaks. No other fluids seem to be mixed with the oil. Brake fluid box looks good and transmission has been good. I always like to try to have an idea of what could be wrong before hiring a mechanic. As sometimes they will be dishonest. I cannot afford any errors to be made when it comes to car repairs. With all this said could this be a simple seating problem with the Oil filter or bad gasket or perhaps both ? Oil pressure seems good. But as I mentioned above the alternator issues you mentioned have been pulling more battery when I turn on the lights or anything else . So it’s interesting you mentioned the alternator / battery using more power if this oil problem occurs. I had no idea the two could be related. However the car engine is smoking now when I start it and the entire time it’s running. I am not driving it anymore until I can have issue resolved. Your thoughts if any ? Thanks !
Tq so much. While driving, I noticed the battery indicator light appears becos the alternator is not turning due to the belt keep slipping the alternator pulley as it gets slippery from oil discharged from a leaking crankshaft. I hear sharp squeaky noise too. Is the squeaks due to bad crankshaft bearing or crankshaft pulley?
Find out but my cars leakin under seems but go to mechs n find out. Sure will cost just hope not to much. Cis love the wagon its got some n eats the road up. Nice barra cruiser
Thanks for the video. The author says that the seal replacement is easy. I'd say its easy if the engine has been removed from the car. If it hasnt been removed, id say its a differcult job.
There is no "its easy" "its hard" its entirely dependent on engine. The engine in my car makes it extremely easy, however others (especially fwd cars) will make it more difficult.
So I have a 2002 civic dx, I have had an oil leak that I haven't been able to find til I looked more under my hood and watched this video. I have oil on the crank pulley area, only in the crankshaft area on the timing cover, and it has been leaking onto the crank sensor causing me to break down after extensive driving. I can see oil has gotten on my belt and I hear squeaking when I'm driving and there is oil on the alternator too. There is always a decent puddle on my driver's side when I leave it parked. I am pretty sure this is my issue. I'm praying since I bought the parts and am gonna fix it if that's the issue
It's a easy fix yourself. You just have to remove your front end, sorta. Its not as much or as big if a deal as you think. It's easy depending on your car. Its easy on BMW.
Oh lord! So much to unpack in this comment Julian. First, skipping the video and kindness is free. Second, learn to spell and write proper English before criticizing someone else. Third, he is speaking English.

I just put my vehicle in the shop because it was leaking oil. I found out that the crank shaft seal was broken. Thank goodness I brought it in.

the squeak is the oily belt
nice explanation. Basic approach is what he did.
Does the harmonic balancer go up against the seal

i got oil seaping out my timing cover like throught the bolts and so, any idea what the problem can be?
either bolts aren’t tightened enough or timing cover seal is bad
thanks i hope its the bolts
