I thought the first colony drop was an accident and Zeon took the blame because of EFSF propaganda?
The first colony drop was always intentional. Zeon was responsible.

I didn't like how suddenly, guncannons and guntanks were in existence prior to the V Project
To be fair, they didn't have the Core Block system yet. But yes, this just makes Origin an alternate retelling of the Original Anime.
Origin and UC are two different canons, and this is one of the differences. The other big difference in this episode was how Char met Lalah which is very different to the original anime.
