I know Kondo's mecha-design is not for everyone, but there's a certain clunky, tangible quality to it that is perfect for messy, boots on the ground stories like Revival of Zeon. Something about them always felt a bit more "real" and terrifying compared to a lot of other designers.
If I remember correctly the sazabi was intended to be mass produced but due to wartime demands and lack of newtypes it was switched to a limited production machine given to commanders according to that suits lore
Hey @GaiaGaiyus I actually came up with lore for the Gundam Mk.II B-Type during your video. Here it is. The year is UC 0090. Six months have passed since the 1st Neo Zeon War ended with the deaths of Haman Karn and Glemy Toto. Thanks to the military aid of the AEUG, the Earth Federation has survived another near brush with complete collapse. However, as the Federation takes stock of the military assets from AEUG high ranking military officials are faced with the grim truth. The Federation is exhausted! Back to back conflicts have drained the Earth Federation of a vast majority of its economic wealth, material surplus, and especially its manpower pool. In addition to these issues the Federation must also deal with the Axis Zeon Remnants left behind by Haman during her speedy retreat to protect Side 3. The Federation needs a way to increase its military strength and quickly. It is this scramble for a new Ace in the hole that the Federation sees that it has a surplus of spare parts for the Gundam Mk II and Hyaku Shiki amongst the supplies it recieved from the AEUG. Using the Nemo Rimes as the base frame, the Federation has its engineers quickly use the surplus Gundam MkII and Hyaku Shiki parts to create the Gundam Mk II B-Type. The Gundam MkII B-type is a limited production model mobile suit built using surplus parts for the Gundam MkII and Hyaku Shiki added onto a modified Nemo Rimes frame. This makes the Gundam MkII B-type a descendant of the RX-79 Gundam Ground Type which was also made using surplus parts from the RX-78 line of mobile suits. Despite this pedigree, the RX-178B is a pale imitation of the unit it is masquerading as. Sporting a higher level of speed and agility due to the Hyaku Shiki parts, but at the cost of durability and protection because of the lesser armor of the Nemo Rimes compared to the original Gundam MkII makes the Gundam MkII B-Type a paper tiger meant to give off the image that the Federation military is stronger than it actually is. The RX-178B would see service from UC-0090 until UC-0092 with the Federation beginning to get back something resembling the production capabilities it had lost, and began producing new MS like the Rg-Z and the Jegan Kai. By the start of UC-0093 all remaining examples of the Gundam MkII B-type would end being mothballed for emergencies or broken down for parts to be used in other mobile suits. The Gundam MkII B-Type: paper tiger of the Earth Federation and a false declaration of strength towards the remnants of Axis Zeon.
No, honestly, I kind of like the longer skirt armor. It’s very different, but it is static design. It’s nice to look at just because it’s so different.
Kondo and Makoto Kobayashi are my favorite mech designers. I have a custom built rx-78 model designed by Kondo and a Nightingale ground type that is Kondo designed, it has interesting patters and a paint scheme of a ww2 tiger tank.
The skirt armor through me off a little bit for a moment, but I think I overall appreciate it. Mobile suits were built by many different factions just like cars are in the real world, so it’s always nice to see a different take on things. I can’t wait for sentinel’s finale and I’m looking forward to the project that comes after as well. The only thing that hurts is that the suits may be too obscured ever show up in GBO2. Despite the graphics being “ PS3 quality” (as some complain) the team does a very good job bringing the 3-D models to life. I’d honestly love to see the suits in this in action.
Really enjoyed this breakdown, and I enjoy kondos works when i can get a hold of them. I think trying to fight them into modern UC is a stretch, but i really enjoy the version of uc kondo made, even goint to his 0079 manga retelling where his version of the FA Gundam is deployed and used.
Another explanation for the gundam mkII B-Type is that the Titans would of likely created an ample supply of gundam mkII spare parts. So if any breaks it can easily be fixed without any delays or problems however with the Titans defeat at the end of the Gryps war. These gundam mkII spare parts would of likely been thrown into so federation storage depo somewhere to collect dust. But with chars return and the threat of another war on the horizon and with the stock pile of gundam mkII parts gathering dust. Well it's not hard to believe the federation wouldn't use up those spare parts and cobbled together a couple handful of gundam mkII and refit them for ground combat.
The one thing I always did find annoying about Gundam is how many stories are so obscure and hard to find in English, especially due to the amount of games that are now hard to obtain, or untranslated
Hellllllll yeah bro. Some of these alt timelines and oneshot mangas etc need more light shined on them. 0081 Saigon is One i really would like to know more about, and across the sky.
This is an amazing telling of a hectic story! Honestly i quite like the crazy designs here, maybe they can do a twilight axis with 5-10 min ovas of each chapter.
Well, I must say something that is a very good and unique story same thing for the MS designs they all look awesome and one day wouldn’t mind a model kit of them that would never happen, but you could wish either way the story is very good, but as you said, it’s kind of rapid pace but still good Probably my most favorite suit from this is the “ORX-005EX Sturm Jaeger” it reminds me of BIG-DUO from BIG-O for some reason with the gigantic hands/thrusters But the most surprising thing was the prototype Nu Gundam It was a prototype and pushing it to its limits did has consequences but the deaths are very much surprising and are very brutal. I love it and thank you by the way for the story
Kondo prefer to have large front skirt as he thinks legs are historically too skinny and get hits especially for ground fight, hence the skirt to cover it, carf has its own armour hence does not goes downwards.
The story isn’t clear where the first chapter takes place (only that it takes place in the eastern tip of Scandinavia) however it mostly is supposed to be somewhere within the vicinity of finland, or the northeastern part of norway judging by the harsh arctic terrain that the base it located in. The story never seems to properly explain where the events take place in.
Maybe the refined Barzam. Since it has the arms and similar legs. But this story deliberately uses Mk ii’s. So the Nemo Rimes just feels the most comfortable as the proper suit these guys probably are in reality.
the zetas in this remind me as z2 the methus/zeta mass production design or early regz that were still more zeta then regz given how many models of barzam there were and customizations i can see gundam mk2s being made in limited numbers for specialist or heavy strike groups and not being made with the same heavy materials and specs but more closer to barzams but aesthetically and for shock value they got made to resemble mk2 gundams similar to the gundam ground types in the oyw being gundam a bit more in name vs amuros actual gundam by comparison so if nothing else they are potentially ground gundams made to resemble mk2 in limited quantity like the zeta plus was given its price tag was too much for the feddies to make it heavily mass produced vs the jegan and its future lineage same w the o2 its basically a heavy unit made to look like and have similarities to the 0 as a shock value thing as both the feddies and zeon did this alot making designs have aesthetics of older infamous suits for morale shock value prime example the zz here is probably one from sentinel not a true biosensor newtype zz but one made for a fazz model but never upgraded or converted to the heavy support fire style suit and more made like those to look like the zz vs the actual mass produced zz unit for again shock value and to use the heavier weapons and armor as a lead unit for aces the jaegers are another example of using prior designs combined thats def messala style parts and design along w gaza design parts used on gaplant core to improve it which the gaplant like the barzam has a couple variations thru the years so it makes sense at the end of the day this design ideology makes sense using stuff that can be patched onto other suits like how feddies did making so many suits in unicorn basically just jegans so repairs and production can be cheaper and easier zeon doing the same w so many patchwork suits thru various eras and regimes so seeing the designs here it makes sense of being a bit realistic about the war and combat and logistics zeon did it w so many essentially zaku variants or based designs in the oyw and well well after feddies did it w gms titans did it w the 9484729374849 version of the barzam hazel gm etc lol the sazabi ground type is just a copy of the idea of the hyaku shiki ground type mp full armor etc (the deltas lineage being longer them the zeta and zz is funny given it wasn’t considered a useable design) the “nu” gundam here looks like a mk4 in its design or modified mk5 also again like you said due to rights issues them taking the designs but renaming them from other stuff is a thing that happens in gundam alot
I really love the raw, almost 'grimy' look of Kondo's artwork. Kinda gives off Maschinen Krieger vibes.
I know Kondo's mecha-design is not for everyone, but there's a certain clunky, tangible quality to it that is perfect for messy, boots on the ground stories like Revival of Zeon. Something about them always felt a bit more "real" and terrifying compared to a lot of other designers.
I'm a big fan of these design. I've even started doing my own designs using these as an inspirations. Very industrial and milita.
i really like the idea of a small mass produced sazabi like the sazabi ground type, makes it really cool
If I remember correctly the sazabi was intended to be mass produced but due to wartime demands and lack of newtypes it was switched to a limited production machine given to commanders according to that suits lore

I ADORE THE LARGE SKIRT ARMOR OMFG !
This truly revives my zeon
MK2s could be Barzams re-modeled to the original mark2 look to hide the titans shame. It's even called the *B* -type.
Kondo and Makoto Kobayashi are my favorite mech designers. I have a custom built rx-78 model designed by Kondo and a Nightingale ground type that is Kondo designed, it has interesting patters and a paint scheme of a ww2 tiger tank.
Yeah, same.
16:36 perhaps these kind of pilots became the early back bone of The Manhunters
I like the Kondo style. The long skirt armor reminds me of trench coats of military officers. And adding zimmerit was a nice touch.

would love these suits in GBO2

Superb stuff as always. God bless our boys on the ground, Neo Zeon Banzai!
9:05 Seed Gundam: *sweats nervously*
Thank you very much!!
Oh, there refined barzams untaitansified by leaning even more into the mk2.
This sparks joy.

im glad to see you finally hit a thousand subs. hopefully it keeps on climbing. I can't be the only one that finds these videos super enjoyable.
The ultimate fetich: front skirts and back skirts of mobile suits
The one thing I always did find annoying about Gundam is how many stories are so obscure and hard to find in English, especially due to the amount of games that are now hard to obtain, or untranslated

Nemo Rimes, an interesting choice, for a moment, I thought you were gonna go with the Federation Converted Barzams. Lol.
We had a little bit of a glitch. One more hour till the premiere
This is an amazing telling of a hectic story! Honestly i quite like the crazy designs here, maybe they can do a twilight axis with 5-10 min ovas of each chapter.
Rated E for EXTRA THICC.
"The mk ii never got mass produced"
The barzam. But naw I know what you mean
I was gonna say that
Oh, I wasn't expecting this today, but me like!
Well, I must say something that is a very good and unique story same thing for the MS designs they all look awesome and one day wouldn’t mind a model kit of them that would never happen, but you could wish either way the story is very good, but as you said, it’s kind of rapid pace but still good

After seeing the Zeon remnants get away:"plot armor be like"
we love to see a zeon success story
Tbh kondo is known for killing off every character in his work after all
oh yeah are you ever gonna go under the gundam double fake someday? it also involves cca stuff
Always great seeing another great vid from you 🔥🔥
wonder if Federick later became part of The Sleeves and Mars Zeon
Kondo prefer to have large front skirt as he thinks legs are historically too skinny and get hits especially for ground fight, hence the skirt to cover it, carf has its own armour hence does not goes downwards.
ohh kondo, some of the best art in the series but the weirder stuff behind him and the inspo he draws from is ehhhh.....
Such raw artstyle.
Btw did any of the events happen in Finland specifically?
The story isn’t clear where the first chapter takes place (only that it takes place in the eastern tip of Scandinavia) however it mostly is supposed to be somewhere within the vicinity of finland, or the northeastern part of norway judging by the harsh arctic terrain that the base it located in. @@GaiaGaiyus Good enough, always fun to see geographical locations mentioned in the Gundam universes, especially when it's near your homeland.
Also, do not think that "neo geo" from dragons heaven is the the o II, they're TOTALLY diferent
isnt the mass produced mk2 just the barzam
Yes?
Maybe the refined Barzam. Since it has the arms and similar legs. But this story deliberately uses Mk ii’s. So the Nemo Rimes just feels the most comfortable as the proper suit these guys probably are in reality.
the zetas in this remind me as z2 the methus/zeta mass production design or early regz that were still more zeta then regz
given how many models of barzam there were and customizations i can see gundam mk2s being made in limited numbers for specialist or heavy strike groups and not being made with the same heavy materials and specs but more closer to barzams but aesthetically and for shock value they got made to resemble mk2 gundams
similar to the gundam ground types in the oyw being gundam a bit more in name vs amuros actual gundam by comparison
so if nothing else they are potentially ground gundams made to resemble mk2 in limited quantity like the zeta plus was given its price tag was too much for the feddies to make it heavily mass produced vs the jegan and its future lineage
same w the o2
its basically a heavy unit made to look like and have similarities to the 0 as a shock value thing as both the feddies and zeon did this alot making designs have aesthetics of older infamous suits for morale shock value prime example the zz here is probably one from sentinel not a true biosensor newtype zz but one made for a fazz model but never upgraded or converted to the heavy support fire style suit and more made like those to look like the zz vs the actual mass produced zz unit for again shock value and to use the heavier weapons and armor as a lead unit for aces
the jaegers are another example of using prior designs combined
thats def messala style parts and design along w gaza design parts used on gaplant core to improve it which the gaplant like the barzam has a couple variations thru the years so it makes sense
at the end of the day this design ideology makes sense
using stuff that can be patched onto other suits like how feddies did making so many suits in unicorn basically just jegans so repairs and production can be cheaper and easier zeon doing the same w so many patchwork suits thru various eras and regimes
so seeing the designs here it makes sense of being a bit realistic about the war and combat and logistics
zeon did it w so many essentially zaku variants or based designs in the oyw and well well after
feddies did it w gms
titans did it w the 9484729374849 version of the barzam hazel gm etc lol
the sazabi ground type is just a copy of the idea of the hyaku shiki ground type mp full armor etc (the deltas lineage being longer them the zeta and zz is funny given it wasn’t considered a useable design)
the “nu” gundam here looks like a mk4 in its design or modified mk5 also
again like you said due to rights issues them taking the designs but renaming them from other stuff is a thing that happens in gundam alot
I got through the entire video and was disappointed the Zeon remnants got away (hating Zeon be like)
9:09
I will like the video, but I can NOT support you pretending that the battle of Hoth but in Gundam isn't sick as shit like who're you fooling pal.
It is really sick actually. But the fact that it’s THIS BLATANT, is the funny part.
Yo wtf brazil?
