Scale trains is absolutely kicking g the CRAP out of everyone in the business! !!!!!!!!! Way to go !!!!!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't even try to compare to IMTs. You want realism, Scale Trains is the answer, HANDS DOWN!
they sure are I own a lot of brass models, with the market being bad and Overland seemingly doing no more imports I`m so HAPPY and GREATFUL we now have Scaletrains!
I know I posted a similar comment before, but I really enjoy your reviews. You cover information that's so valuable to me, a newcomer to model railroading, & do it in a completely unbiased way. You've got a fan over here & I look forward to enjoying others!
Most consists (today) include at least two locomotives. I wonder how it would look using a Rivet Counter for the first loco (most visible) and an Operator for the second/third/fourth locos (would save a lot of money). A side-by-side comparison would be useful. I also wonder whether the sound of mixed locos would complement each other - in real life all locos would be making engine sounds but only the lead would be used for horns and lights. (as of April 2018, scaletrains.com) Operator w/DCC & ESU Essential sound = $150 Operator DC (DCC-ready & sound-ready) = $100 Operator detail kit = $30 Rivet Counter w/DCC & ESU Loksound = 225 Rivet Counter DC (DCC-ready & sound-ready) = $150 So a four loco consist using all Rivet Counter (w/DCC & sound) would set you back $900, but if you used Operator for locos 2-4, then you're looking at $675 total. If the visual and audio mixing looks bad, then I wonder if one could use full DCC/sound for the lead and then non-DCC/sound for the others. I'd imagine you'd need to create true "dummies" by disabling the motor (can't mix DCC with DC), remove the motor (weight), or at least disconnect the mechanical linkage to the wheels to reduce drag. The lead would be the only one pulling. This would bring the $900 down to $675 also, but all Rivet Counters. What would you do? I suppose a real consist would have a mix of various types of locos (Tier 4, 3, etc). Having four of the same would look odd and boring. I would not mix the same model from two different manufacturers however. So if there is anyone out there who has Tier 4 in both Rivet Counter and Operator, it'd be great to see and hear them in a consist - and for a bonus, add in older "tier" models.
Wow! Great video. Very helpful. I can't believe the amount of detail not just on the physical model, but in the sound too. They actually got a recording of the split horn on the GECX units. Awesome! -Cam
Great review, thanks for putting it up! Awesome that you had all current versions. Very thorough. I especially love how Scaletrains did such a great job on the headlight fading up. Very accurate.
The greatest diesel locomotive review ever. I'm so getting one for me. CSX specifically. Since I live in Jacksonville Florida. Thanks for adding some CSX Tier 4 GEVOs in.
Waiting on my UP and BNSF to come in now, Mike from Saletrains indicated to me the reason they went with plastic brake chain vs. metal was because of the ease to remove the shell from the chassis. Nice review James, these babies look sweet!
I hear ya. I just think it is so cool that Scale Trains would even make the Demo as it is so different from the others. They sure did a lot of research on these models.
James, I love that video. I like this tier 4 of the UP and BNSF. They're my favorite. I also like the Norfolk Southern and CSX on the tier 4 too. Tier 4 gevo are my favorite locomotives ever!!
i got the BNSF rivet counter in N scale. Its amazing how much detail they put into it. it looks just as good as a HO loco. im going to have to buy a few more from scaletrains. Ill have to get some NS locos though cause thats what runs in my area
I have a few Operater tier 4 GEVO locomotives a couple operater Dash 9 locomotives I have upgraded them with duel sugar cube speakers and Tsunami 2. I love them hands down the absolute best budget friendly locomotives. My biggest gripe with budget locomotives is Ditch lights Walthers mainline locomotives have ditch lights that are so hard to see. Great video
Finally I've got my 2 GE evos. Since living other side of pond, i have no option to compare real Engine sound. But it sounds like broken Engine when reving up. Actually, when testing my first I thought speaker was broken. Did test next one but sounded same so I guess it's correct. Thanks for all your Reviews, very good!
For me the engine sounds all sound tinny and scratchy, it could be my hearing but i dont buy the sound decoders, and i think half a dozen operators all going with sound at the same time would drive me crackers, maybe i already am
Love these Scaletrains Tier 4 Gevos! I have a couple of rivet counters(1 Norfolk Southern and 1 BNSF both with sound/dcc) and an Operater T4 (BNSF/no sound/dcc) and they run great! If you want to see them in action, there's a video of them running on the West Plains Model Railroad Club's HO layout, check it out!
May I ask where you purchased/brand name of the gray turntable with pedestal? My son is interested in something similar for his train collection. Thank you!!
Yes the video I've been waiting for. Thanks man. I like these over the IMRC version. The only thing is I wish the truck mounted chain was actual chain hung from springs. IMRC killed it on that detail.
The ET44 is probably my favourite units to ride in with CN. Super comfortable and air conditioning. Kinda bouncy and a little loud but much better than the SD70’s (except for the 70-75I)
Love the gevos scale trains make quick question what do you use to run your trains on your ez track because I see that you have more than one locomotive pulling the trains that you’re running on the tracks in a lot of your videos and I don’t see them acting weird or what not but yet when I do it they go AWOL
Great video review - thanks for the time stamps in the description. Do you have a Scale Speed Tester like the Accutrack-II to confirm the max speed. Mine only gets up to 48mph max and I'm wondering if I may have programmed something by mistake to slow it down... not CV5 which I've checked... I've read somewhere about it running about 75mph in HO gauge at scale speed... (Mine is from the initial batch, 2017 August). -Chris
bnsf is full of truck details, yet the csx is pretty plain down there. NS has a great looking roof. demo is pretty plain. lol, imagine that . I always like the scale trains one. just love the red. and the crossing markings. great FULL review James. but think you need a pointer instead of a finger.
If their were any one detail that i wish Scale Trains would produce on their Loco's,it'd be "painted" hand-rails,as opposed to molded in color,it seems as though the CSX's handrails are a different shade of blue, but other than that they are perfect. If Scale trains ever produces GP38-2's or GP40-2's...look out Athearn Genesis!
I'm not a GEVO fan by any means but one question I have that you missed is do the ditchlights on the CSX and NS models flash when the horn is sounded like the prototypes?
Did anyone get units where one ditch light is not as bright? I got 2 csx units and both have a ditch light that is dim even when you blow the horn and they flash it's not as bright as the other
ive always been curious about your reviews, they are very thorough and wll done, answers most questions before making a purchase in my part. but i was always curious. are these demonstrators the company sends you and you have to eventually send back or do you actually purchase everything you review. im sure this has been asked or talked about before but i cant say i have caught a video of you mention it. just wondering thanks lol if you kept em all i would probably look at that collection you have with amazement because there has been so many at this point. anyways keep up the videos! im sure it gets a little boring at times but, your doing a great service for everyone considering buying any of the things shown. thanks!
Hey James great video one quick question for you . Do you knew of any oither places that may have this loco? I knew they are most likely gone at scaletrains but I was wondering if you knew of any oither online store than overland hobbies. Thanks man Jeff aka NW611J.
I have been out of model rail roading for a while now I have the space and I want to get back into rail roading I cant grasp how much it has changed HO, and the prices are unbelievable I understand the utmost realism but the prices are crazy 😭
Am I the only one that sees it or does everyone know but ME that the air compressors above the tanks on every single Tier 4 GEVO are crooked.sometimes its the front one, sometimes it's the back, sometimes both.
wmg33 plus, how do you install the walklight since there Is a pre drilled hole already? Is it easy. How does one get a suitable light And connect out to what exactly? Can you advice or make a video workshop! Please??
Looks like Intermountain won with a pull test of 5.2 vs 4.1. Intermountain, and Scale Trains both sounds the same, but Iam into pulling power, and Intermountain knocked it out the park . I hope the Sd40-3 is just as nice as the T4 awesome review.
jlwii2000 Thanks for the reply James. I love your review's , and trust your opinions on models. Iam at the crossroads with these two companies being a new modeler I want to make a solid investment . Thanks again.

I know I posted a similar comment before, but I really enjoy your reviews. You cover information that's so valuable to me, a newcomer to model railroading, & do it in a completely unbiased way. You've got a fan over here & I look forward to enjoying others!

(as of April 2018, scaletrains.com)
Operator w/DCC & ESU Essential sound = $150
Operator DC (DCC-ready & sound-ready) = $100
Operator detail kit = $30
Rivet Counter w/DCC & ESU Loksound = 225

I really like after the horn is sounded is the fading quill. They are just like the real life Tier 4 GEVO. Great job!

The greatest diesel locomotive review ever. I'm so getting one for me. CSX specifically. Since I live in Jacksonville Florida. Thanks for adding some CSX Tier 4 GEVOs in.
I have BNSF 3786 and GECX 2032 from them with sound coming very soon!
Finally, the video I have been waiting for.
Thanks DIB!
I got a BNFS. Im very happy with it.
The details are awesome.
Great review!
Great sound. Nice and clear. Nice to see that the sun shades come already installed.
Where there any detail parts in the Rivet Counter that needed to be installed?
nope
Waiting on my UP and BNSF to come in now, Mike from Saletrains indicated to me the reason they went with plastic brake chain vs. metal was because of the ease to remove the shell from the chassis. Nice review James, these babies look sweet!
Thanks Rick! Glad to have you as a long time viewer.
Sure thing James, if it wasn't for you i probably wouldn't have bought most of the stuff i love running now! lol..Thanks right back at ya bro!
Love that blue GE Demo. Can't wait to get that one. So nice to see Scale Trains add that version with all its unique detail.
Blue's my favorite color but I'm not into the demo stuff much. Still a stunning loco.

AMAZING video James, very nice, nice to know that what I'm paying for is Factory Quality, honestly one of the best models. Best GE model ever.
Thanks NSRailfan 2003!

Love the video James! I’ve ordered myself two UP T4’s.. thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching!
Hi James. I got my blue Scale Trains GE Demo GEVO today, and wow those see through rear grills are beautiful.
Great review James! Thank you
Awesome review! Can’t wait for these! I have a BNSF one on the way!
Thanks for watching!

Gorgeous locomotives and great video as always! Been waiting for this one. Please do a head to head with Intermountain.
on it's way tomorrow
@@jlwii2000 big fan of ur channel I watch it all the time like how u talk about details on locomotives ur awesome
got 2 on order they're coming to live with me in England great vid as usual
Excellent review, James!
thanks!
Amazing review, I've been waiting to see these.
thanks!
great video, I have one of those tier 4 gevos from intermountain and I love it

That's not considered a blat horn as it has more than one chime, just saying. Blat usually refers to horns such as the Leslie A200 or S125.

@@jlwii2000 scaletrains r the best locomotives around the NS n BNSF my favorite locomotives

Great video like always
Thank you Unknown soldier. I do know that your thumbnail is US forces seizing a Nazi flag from the enemy in WWII! History is interesting.
jlwii2000 THANK YOU you are the first one notice that well second but I really appreciate it thank you
kinda disappointed he didn't compare intermountain tier 4's to these
a head to head comparison video may be upcoming
Podium_Position_1529 Intermountain out pulls this company locomotives 5.1 on the pull test and only 4.2 for scale trains.
Possibly a comparison of some of the top offerings from several manufacturers? Intermountain, BLI, Atlas, etc.
amazing locomotive, definitely getting the bnsf
bnsf does look nice!
Amazing James!!!!!!!
Thank you!

Scaletrains needs to work on their QC, almost of the BNSF C4s I’ve seen have the wrong front handrails installed.
I'm not a GEVO fan by any means but one question I have that you missed is do the ditchlights on the CSX and NS models flash when the horn is sounded like the prototypes?
Yes, they do if you get it with DCC/sound.
Ditchlights flash out of the box on Scale trains depending on the railroad. If for non flashing railroads, they are also programmed correctly.
Did anyone get units where one ditch light is not as bright? I got 2 csx units and both have a ditch light that is dim even when you blow the horn and they flash it's not as bright as the other

I think their website is having issues. But are the operators dcc without sound or just dcc decoder ready?
just dcc ready on the operators
Do you keep all of the locomotives?
perhaps
Are they better then Broadway Limited Imports ?
I really like the u.p models there really nice I have a new u.p operator
So which do you like better Intermountain or scale trains?
check out today's video of the head to head comparison
Sweeet, very nice.

Hey James, thought you might want to correct the title. It should be ET44, and then AC or C4. I assume this was an accident.
Thanks, typo and I fixed it. Thanks for watching!
Hello sir, I will buy the model but who
Which is better? Scaletrains or Intermountain.
a video coming out tomorrow will somewhat answer that question.
nice video
Am I the only one that sees it or does everyone know but ME that the air compressors above the tanks on every single Tier 4 GEVO are crooked.sometimes its the front one, sometimes it's the back, sometimes both.
Supposed to be like that. Moisture control.
Only BNSF ET44C4 Rivet Counter, handrail incorrect from prototype model and real locomotive.
Has anyone taken one of these apart yet? Reason I ask is I want to remove the shell so I can tint the cab windows from the inside.
wmg33 plus, how do you install the walklight since there Is a pre drilled hole already? Is it easy. How does one get a suitable light And connect out to what exactly? Can you advice or make a video workshop! Please??
Do they need 22 radius?
I believe 22 is suggested BUT minimum is 18.
jlwii2000 Thanks
If only scale trains would do high rail o scale. As long as they would work on o72 curves I would buy from them.
I like scale trains.
very very cool!!
Indeed. Thanks for watching!
Nice but i like SD 80 EMD Mac.Are my favorite.

Cool! I hope you enjoy them and thanks for watching!
You simply cannot beat the quality and accuracy of KATO. People buy scale trains because they cannot afford KATO.
Kato doesn't make this unit in ho that's why we buy scale trains
👍
I need one :D
Aaand they make them in 'N' :D
they will be yes.
Why do all the units look like they lean to one side. It's like they don't sit flat on their own trucks.
There was a slight lean that I noticed after the video. They don't seem to have that problem on the tracks though. Thanks for watching.
Good question James that's way I would like too know
where does he get the money for all these?
from my pocket
Good to hear! I like independent reviewers! Good review
