I met the brothers Gibb in Sydney in 1965,I entered a train carriage with my acoustic guitar in hand after a guitar lesson and instantly recognised them as they had been performing on television for years and had just had a minor hit with WINE and WOMEN (terrific 45).We chatted briefly as I had to get off at the next stop, they were nice kids!

Evening Richard 👋🏻I grew up w The Bee Gees....there music was always playing at our parties when I was in my early teens....I still remember picking up the first album which actually wasn’t there first lol....I must say I’m partial to the early sound over the more disco sound, although I do have a double comp of the later tunes....I applaud your collection 👏🏻take care and have a great weekend- Lis

These guys were my pre teen and teenage years. I got SNF for my 13th birthday and my mum told my brother he'd be my friend for life buying me that album. I also have Children of the World and Spirits Having Flown. They had the right idea working with other artists especially Barbra and Dionne. Barry and Barbra did another Guilty album in 2005 which is just as good as the 1980 album.

Great collection Richard !!! I discovered The Bee Gees music with "Saturday Night Fever", I think I was 12 or 13 !!! Such a massive success, it played everywhere !!! Initially, I thought they were a band from the 70s (disco years) 'til I found out they were from the 60s !!! Now I like their old stuff as much as their later stuff !!! I own 3 vinyl compilations: "Best of The Bee Gees", "Best of The Bee Gees vol.2" and "The Bee Gees Greatest" !!!

Great video Mr! I have always loved the Bee Gees...and especially the music they wrote for others. Of course they had some shockers but with so many gems, u can forgive the occasional misstep. It was also great to hear them cover some of their own tunes they wrote on their compilation Their GH The Record.

I’ve recently found myself picking up their 60’s catalogue on vinyl after being impressed with it on listening to various CD anthologies , I kind of shy away from their mega-fame disco era stuff as it’s not really my cup of tea but I’m more tolerant of it than what I once was.
I’m a bit of a old fashioned sod in that I like the “surprise” of listening to an album on vinyl for the first time rather than using Spotify to decide wether I would like it or not before buying it.
I’m surprised at how relatively cheap the really early albums can be considering they couldn’t have sold “that” many in the day and they have been generally given a good retrospective review of being quality albums
Nice overview Richard , thanks again mate

    • @CookieMusic43
      @CookieMusic43  5 лет назад

Thanks Dai, I totally agree about the surprise element of listening to an album. In fact I do not have or do not want a spotify account. Yea, the early albums aren't too pricey compared to other 60's arists.

I am looking to buy all their studio albums. 1st, Odessa, 2 years and Size Isn´t Everything has eluded me so far and they seem to be quite difficult to find on vinyl. Bee Gees were quite popular even in the 1960s so maybe that is why they are not more expensive. I would think Odessa would be the most expensive since it is a double album and that was quite rare back then.

    • @davidheafield1436

@@frodeapeland1442 ......Odessa isn’t too hard to find , the original U.K. “furry” sleeved edition I picked up in wonderful condition for about £30 from eBay about 2 years ago , the hardest part is finding one with the sleeve not marked or stained .....I also picked up a “normal” laminated German edition for about £15-18
I still think the prices on early Bee Gee’s albums are very cheap all things considering?

@@davidheafield1436 That sounds like a great purchase 🙂I guess I can find most thingss on E-Bay, Discogs etc. I agree that the prices are not too bad, but I am not too experienced in vinyl shopping. I am considering A Kick in The Head Is Worth Eight In The Pants on vinyl, but it costs something like 100 pounds+shipping. I am from Norway. Where in the UK are you? I have been quite a few times to Liverpool.

@@frodeapeland1442 ...I had never heard of the “kick in the head” title ?...looking it up it looks like it’s an unofficial/ bootlegged title , so I would be wary of paying high for it , maybe one day it will get some kind of official release?
I’m from Cambridge in the U.K. although my daughter now lives out in Sweden so not too far away ...she managed to get me a rare Sparks CD “the seduction of Ingmar Bergman” that was made for Swedish radio and although they had a few copies left they absolutely wouldn’t ship anywhere except for Sweden and Norway , so I got lucky there

Fantastic video Richard. I don't know half these albums, haven't even laid eyes on some of them. I vividly remember their come-back with You Win Again in the mid 80's - at the time I had literally no idea they'd been writing for other people. By the way, have you ever heard the Robin Gibb 80's solo song 'Robot'? I absolutely love that song though it's cheesy as hell and a definite Buggles rip-off.

My two favourite songs of which there are many to chose from are Lamplight and I can't see nobody. They were involved with both the Marbles and Tintin lps too in the sixties.
