No Smiths, I'm surprised... 5 is tough though. Interesting choices as always
Cheers
Some compelling choices, some surprises but another good selection. Time to hit spotify 😂
lol
That was quite an eclectic mix. I'm not sure i would have picked any of those though, maybe Kate Bush. Keep 'em coming...
Thanks
Who are you?
A weak Who album
Hi Richard!!! I know almost nothing about their work as a duo apart from the big songs or even Simon as a solo artist with the exception of Graceland and the funny videos and songs... anyhow if you say those songs are not good you might have a point. cheers and be well
Thanks as always for the comment Cristian, I really appreciate it
I love Gone At Last and I like Paranoia Blues. If I were choosing my ten worst songs, most of them would be S&G songs, although I agree about Cars Are Cars. It made me cringe when I first heard it. That whole album is well below par, apart from the title track, Train In The Distance, and Rene and Georgette Magritte After The War. I'm a huge Paul Simon fan, and I bought the Hearts and Bones album as soon as it came out. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with it. When Graceland came out three years later, it was like a rebirth. Amazing.
Thanks for the great comment.
it's magic. first time ever. wow. thank you for posting. i knew only the man who sold the world bonus track in the EMI/RYCODISC reissue
Glad you enjoyed it!
To me majority of the songs would come from Hearts And Bones album. I don't like it, it's got three really great songs, the rest are forgettable at best. I knew you would choose Jonah when i saw the sleeve. I have to check where do i have You Don't Know....because i can't recall it, but i'm sure i have it somewhere. Pasi
If you have the expanded CD of Bookends it should be on it Pasi
I thought Paul Simon was great UNTIL Graceland. I know everyone loves it but I can’t stand it. Just sounds forced and boring to these ears. The only song I really can’t stand from his purple patch is “Mrs Robinson”. It got played to death and then some here in North America. It really bugs me !
I tend to veer to Paul's pre-Graceland albums as well.
Lol I like all of the songs on your list, but I am with you on “Cars Are Cars”..
Lol, I suppose we all hear songs differently
Hi Richard!!! Well done and cool additions to the collection...... had no idea The Corrs had so many releases.... but it's always "nice" to see more stuff from them, maybe one of the "best good looking" bands in pop music, hands down, lol...... cheers and be well
Thanks Cristian, the girls are absolutely gorgeous.
Hi Richard, great video. Agree about At The Zoo, Jonah and certainly Cars Are Cars being among the bottom of the pile. Completely forgot about You Don't Know Where Your Interest Lies which I always remembered liking. Disagree about Richard Cory which I've always liked their original version, but never been a fan of Denny Laines slightly drunkard take of it in Wings. Gone At Last for me is one of the better and livelier tracks from Still Crazy. I'd also have Blessed in there and maybe a few more from Still Crazy and One Trick Pony.
Thanks Ross, Blessed was a song I really hated at the start but now love to bits. I agree that Still Crazy is filled with downbeat songs but unfortunately Gone At Last is not up to the same standard as My Little Town, for me anyway.
Nice job Richard. I have 9,000 cds. I put all the cd's in zip wallets that house 48 each, about the size of an encyclopedia (I store them in years as date of first release so for example mike oldfield will be in 1973 with Cockney Rebel. I am very strict with this as such Mud is in the 1967 wallet with Genesis as I include Mud 'flower power' whereas most people will associate Mud as belonging in 1973 from 'crazy' onwards and all their glam hits). It takes a lot of research to establish the first releases of all the artists. It took about 270 wallets. They are stored as 4 book cases. I took all the cd booklets and backsheets and stored them seperately (A to Z) in a cd shelve unit (10 shelves).. I got rid of all the plastic cases and any cardboard outer packaging that duplicated the booklets tracklisting ie I only kept packaging if there was no booklet. As I still buy cd's, I have left gaps as it would be a bugger to have to rearrange 270 wallets and shuffle them all along. If I get in to a new artist as I did recently with King Crimson (I have a tendency to buy the complete catalogue), I simply start a new wallet and insert it in to the collection. Your T.Rex singles just make me ecstatic looking at them, wish I still had all mine that I bought around 73-75.
Wonderful comment! Thank you!
Hi Richard, i think i might struggle to find 10 tracks i do like by S&G, as for Paul Simon, i like maybe a handful of singles pre 1986, i do like the "graceland" and "rhythm of the saints albums" but i have to be in the mood to do so. i will add in Art Garfunkel, i have a compilation and probably only like three of the ones on the compilation. all that said, i do think Bridge Over Troubled Waters is one of the greatest songs ever and love Art's vocals on it. - Lloyd
Hi Lloyd, I o Paul Simon is not for everybody. There are a few on the VC that just don't like him.
Very nice easy to find things. Incidentally where did you get those 7" drawers from? Ikea?
They were custom made Martin
@@CookieMusic43 very nice. Any chance we could sign a custom made striker? No. Probably not. I guess summertime probably we'll be jigging things about a bit. Shame Tierney always got injured I really liked his style and determination.
@@Thevinylscavenger Tierney was dropped in favour of Zinchenko and it looks like he may be the first one to leave.
@@CookieMusic43 IMO Tierney is a far better defender just injuries have blighted his time with us. Lewis-Skelly looks really decent though as does Nwaneri. Hope things are good with you Richard.
@@Thevinylscavenger All's good. It will be interesting to see if Lewis-Skelly & Nwaneri make Tuchel's first squad. They are English, aren't they?
IYCSTH and 1982 and Back to Back better than Rock Til You Drop? My Top 5: Blue For You, Piledriver, Quo, Hello, Never To Late or Just Supposin' or OTL. Always had a soft spot for Ain't Complaining...it was the most current album when i discovered Quo.
I do prefer those three albums to Rock Til You Drop
Your talk of Irish bands with female singers /made me remember In Tua Nua I saw them play in Ireland when I visited the country/1988 Two opening acts were Light a Big Fire& Brush Shiels
I remember In Tua Nua from the mid-80's
Hi Richard!!! cool to hear you have a second opinion about Moody blues comolete catalogue and not just their classic era..... what used to happend to many legacy bands. I remember the band had some recognition in the mid 80's, but that's all i recall about them. Anyhow keep hearing good things about them also a kind of underrated prog band. cheers and be well
It surprised me as well Cristian but I've always loved Your Wildest Dreams
Hi Richard. I don't know either of those Graham Parker records. Awful cover on Acid Bubblegum and that's really odd with the bonus 45.
Yea Acid Bubblegum does not have the best of covers, not a great album either.
Hi Richard,Yeah "Summer Sunshine" one of their best IMO,Ian
Gods little breezy song Ian
Hi Richard. LP plus 7" vinyl, that is not very practical IMO but had those albums been release on 3 sided double vinyl it probably would have cost a pretty penny being double LP including (presumably) a gatefold sleeve. i have Graham Parker;s first two on vinyl, never bothered with anymore, The Corrs, they were pretty good, i own a couple of cd's. nice pick ups mate - Lloyd BTW, i wouldnt mind any of the Corrs' girls LOL
I fully agree with you on your last statement Lloyd! Lol
They remind me of the late 1990s,
Yep, me too
That's a good t.rex album l have it on cd, l only like buying them on Marc's emi label l would of preferred it on black vinyl lve gone off coloured vinyl. Thanks Richard.
Cheers Julian
The Corrs would win my Father Ted 'lovely girls' competition hands down. The violin one is my fav. Seen Rob's football comment here i think we'll bottle it and get a striker in the summer. It will need a big injury to Liverpool and a Gerrard slip combined with us going on a decent run to turn it around now and time is ticking down. Michael Oliver sends our players off 1/8 and Liverpool i read it was 1/54.......
Yea, Sharon was my favourite at the time but let's be honest the three of them are gorgeous. We do need a striker but I don't want them to pay over the odds for an average one. Don't get me started on Michael Oliver!
Hi Richard- great finds as usual both Graham Parker and Corrs really never got on my radar tbh…I should probably try some out 🤔 Gotta love T-Rex though…never knew any T-Rex albums were released on Casablanca (a label I always associate with KISS, Donna Summer & Village People) 👍 Cheers-R
I think you might like Graham Parker Richard. His first two albums, Howlin' Wind and Heat Treatment are the best place to start.
I think i've said this before; i want Corrs Unplugged, i doubt i'll be getting any of the others. Pasi
I'm not sure if Uplugged is part of the vinyl reissue programme.
It must be tough being Jim Corr when another man says "oh, nice bird mate" and then Jim says "No! They are my sisters!" lol Nice finds Richard 👍
Very tough on Jim, Simon
Hi Richard , don’t understand why those Graham Parker albums have been done that way ? You needed that win yesterday , saka is a big miss .. ⚽️👍
It was a huge win Rob. Yes, Saka is a huge miss and I wonder if we will bring anyone one in in the last week.
Definitely surprised by The Other Side of Life being so high up on the list. Also surprised In Search of the Lost Chord didn't rank higher - is my #1 Moody's album.
I'm really surprised by TOSoL as well. I've had it for years but only recently go to really appreciate it.
Awesome room, I'm jealous, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Steve
I've never understood the concept of an album or song being too long or even 'bland' or 'overplayed'- is it all about 'concentration' issues?
Hi Richard, difficult video to pull together I could imagine, most I'd agree with and would be contenders, exceptions would be I Saw It In The Mirror which I've always thought was rather good and I really think One Man One Woman is a strong track (think I gave it a 9/10 in my review). Ones I'd add to my list would be Suzy Hang Around, King Kong Song and Little Things.
Hi Ross, I have a real soft spot for those two Waterloo tracks but I can understand Little Things being one of your choices
Thanks Richard. Enjoyed that. I have had 6 of the classic 7 for at least 30 years. So I’m a bit of a fan. But I’m not sure I could take as much Moodys in a short time as you have gone through. To me their music comes through with a whoosh, but at helicopter speed. That’s not a criticism, but it may be a reason why I don’t fancy listening to them one after the other. But you’ve left me wanting to listen to them again, including the 80s albums, which my new wave pretensions at the time, prevented me from listening to. Top video Richard. Thanks again.
Thank you Brad
I'm an Orthodox fan. I don't tolerate placing any of the classic 7 below anything they did after that. Very very set in my ways...
I used to be like that
Thanks Richard! If push came to shove I would choose the Moodies as my all-time favorite group. I would rank my top three albums as Question, EGBDF, and 7th Sojourn. I think that each of the classic seven albums have fans who would choose one as their favorite, that's how good they all were.
Totally agree Ron.
In my opinion every Elton's John song from the 70's,80's,90's was his worst song's
not a fan then?
@@CookieMusic43 Maybe a fan for 1 min. But there was more music that was way better
To me, “I Feel like a Bullet…” was the last real Taupin/John song.
Certainly a great song but it feels a little out of place on Rock of the Westies
Great video and reviews! I've been a Moodies fan since the very beginning. My Top 5 are: To Our Children's Children's Children, In Search Of The Lost Chord, Days Of Future Past, On The Threshold Of A Dream and Seventh Souhourn. Thanks, Richard!
Cheers Pulsar!
Hi Richard!!! if a songs from a previous record sessions ends up as song N°2 on the b side of a single, it's just not good...... "Candle in the wind" is a good that needs a good rest and not be played for a long time. cheers and be well
I tend to agree Cristian
a great moody blues ranking, loads of great albums, i do really like the bluesy first album, i think sur le mare was the first album i bought of theirs and the single, cheers richard
Thanks Stephen
Hi Richard- I probably should listen to more Moody Blues! I own NO albums by them despite being familiar with at least a handful of their more ‘classic’ songs 🤔 More often though I hear a song and go ‘this is good, who’s this?’ (Moody Blues)…’oh I didn’t know they did that!’ Go figure! 😆 Cheers-R
A really good compilation, like with most artists, is probably the best place to start Richard
Came here expecting “Solar Prestige A Gammon”…
I have a real fondness for that track
It’s so bad it’s good..😂
@@derekroberts6654 I like that one too 😊
A band with 5 songwriters and 4 lead vocalists. In sports they call that a deep bench.
very true!
I love the Moody Blues! They are my absolute favorite band and I saw them in concert during their Sur la Mer tour in 1988 ("Love is on the Run" is one of my favorite songs from that album). My favorite albums are "Long Distance Voyager" ("Gemini Dream", "22,000 Days", and "The Voice" especially) which I have on vinyl, and "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" (I love ALL the songs on that one, especially "After You Came), which I also have on vinyl...it was originally my sister's, but I inherited it. ha ha. Great video! You have excellent taste!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
my fav every good boy deserves favour
Good to see that we agree John
Hi Richard . I own a cd copy of Queens Killers on cd. I bought it a couple of years ago at a charity store here in the city i live in , New Zealand. And i almost wasn't going to buy it , but I did because it's live. New cds are still pricey here in NZ. But I manage to get cds in good condition from charity stores.
New CDs are quite pricey here as well Carl
My favorite 70s album..is by far."Captain Fantastic & the BDC Though I'm not really keen on "Bitter Fingers" & "When the Whistle Blows"
"Writing" would be my least favourite from that album
I'm surprised you didn't just choose Leather Jackets. A classic in my opinion lol
If it had been released in the 70's it would have dominated!
Interesting video Richard. You're obviously quite familiar with EJ's deeper album cuts & B's. I tend to think he lost the plot around the time of "Philadelphia Freedom" which I don't particularly rate. "I'm Still Standing" is another. While I have albums that followed into the 80's, they don't really get played. I have a number of his earlier singles and my preference is his period up to "Blue Moves" though that's an LP I really should revisit. Cheers mate.
Thanks Peter, apart from the 70's albums I do rate 21 at 33, The Fox and Jump Up. for me his catalogue got very patchy after Too Low For Zero and I'm also not keen on I'm Still Standing
The only Elton John song I can think of off the top of my head that I absolutely never want to hear again is "Candle in the Wind" -- but it's not the song's fault. It was a mediocre piece, consisting of one lyrical and musical cliche after another, but there was nothing objectionable about it. Until it got played to death and became a form of Chinese Water Torture after Princess Di's death. It's a shame because that means I can't play Side 1 of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" on LP without manual intervention between "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" and "Bennie and the Jets" (though the latter is almost as overexposed). "Your Song" has been played a lot, too, but it's a masterful performance, an approach to colloquial writing and singing that hadn't been done in pop music before (with all the incomplete thoughts, stammers and hesitations). John Lennon said upon hearing it that it was the first new thing to come along since the Beatles broke up. "Candle in the Wind" is just an old-fashioned ballad.
Great comment, thank you
