I came into this game with low to mid expectations. I thought it was going to be another generic action adventure game with a few mechanics that differentiates it from the rest but i was wrong. This game simply blew me away. Everything was perfect about the single player campaign. The graphics, the interesting back story, the jaw dropping cinematics and the level design was masterful. Even the collectables had significance in this game providing us with history, and a back story that kept myself wanting to know more. I wasn't this surprised at a game like this since far cay 3 and that's saying a lot.

To note, this is the first free Games with Gold for March on Xbox 360. 2nd free game on the 16th is Bioshock Infinite. Honestly, I can't wait to try Tomb Raider. I used to play the old PS1 Tomb Raider games all the time. But when they moved to PS2 I kind of grew out of them. I've been wanting to see how this new one was. I heard it was a lot like Uncharted for PS3 now, which honestly would be fine with me. I liked that game too. The review mentions the first hour being full of scripted events and QTEs, which honestly I don't mind. I remember the old Tomb Raider games having very specific areas you had to go with timed button presses too, so it feels a bit Tomb Raidery to me. Also, in the review it mentioned that you can go back and find the tombs and collectibles after beating the story. My question is, how many tombs and collectibles are there to find? I ask because I've been playing Batman Arkham City, and I've kind of gotten used to finding Riddler Trophies, Riddles, and whatever other things are around, ALL over the place. I'm hoping the tombs and collectibles in Tomb Raider aren't so hidden, that it takes a while to even find one. I already have Bioshock Infinite, so I'm not too worried about that one being free, although I'm not gonna complain about having a digital version.
Nick Gelesky Sadly, I just bought Bioshock Infinite about a month ago. So the 16th is pointless for me. I would have loved to see the first or second Bioshock on there instead personally, having never played them.
This game is great, I have had it for a while, picked it up at gamestop on one of their value deal days. It was a great find. And definitely worth playing for anyone who enjoys strategy games with upgrades and stunning visuals.

9/10 is kind of ridiculous. This is a linear game, and even though I love linear games, it's not as good or anywhere close to as good as games that give you a ton of options, freedom, and offer endless replayability. Neither can it be compared to games like GTA, which have seemingly bottomless content and combine half a dozen genres into one--and pull it off. I would score it highly for a linear game, but not for a game overall. The greatest strength is Lara. I love her. Seeing her shivering at the beginning of the game broke my heart, and watching her overcome every obstacle she'd really rather not deal with is really inspiring to me. She's a sympathetic character, which is rare in a videogame. Once combat picks up and she's blasting faces left and right, the immersion kind of breaks, but the cutscenes bring it back. Her meeting with Roth (sp), when she says "I'm not sure I'm that kind of Croft", was a really great piece of character development. I love the voice actor, her voice really matches Lara's character. She's not some hardened Amazon warrior or some combat-readied ninja, she's just a girl... and that doesn't stop her from being a badass. My biggest issue with this game is that it feels like the designers spent a long time on animations (momentum when she changes directions, teabagging dead enemies) and then someone came along and said "those take too long. Let's make all of those animations 10x faster". As a result, her limbs often flail awkwardly when she turns on a friggen dime, as if she were a ragdoll tossed around by some invisible force. The loot animation is barely visible. She shimmies across ropes so quickly that it's laughable. Jumps don't feel risky like they did in older Tomb Raider games because Lara can steer herself in the air and teleport to ledges. All in all it seems like the designers went out of their way to speed up gameplay and as a result detracted from the immersion. It does work, though--the gameplay is snappy, entertaining, and rarely makes you feel cheated. But personally I would rather have no animations at all the jangly ones we've got. tl;dr - Good game for a linear game. Lara's awesome, if you love her you'll love the game. If not, the game is still good, but I can understand some of the other comments' complaints, and it's not a game you can defend despite its flaws. There are flaws, especially in the combat, but such is life.
Michael Ian Ross You're giving the story way too much credit. If anything it is as shallow, forced and uninspired as the game-play. Not to mention that all of the side characters consisted of 2-Dimensional stereotypes, the worst kind a child could've written.

I tried this game a couple weeks ago, and didn't care about a single person by the end (except Sam, who connected with Lara most directly at the beginning and therefore gave the story some personal stakes for Lara). Pain inflicted on a character is not character development, and lore found in hidden documents should not replace character writing and interactions in the plot itself. I loved the tombs, though, but THERE NEEDED TO BE MORE OF THEM. How the heck are there only five tombs as avoidable side quests in a Tomb Raider game?

Yes, but Last year, most people didn't get the original, and the graphics were not that good, Also, I never got a chance to play the original one because I didn't know it was THAT good. I'm getting Definitive for the PS4 because the games I have for PS4 are crap and this is the best one. Not to mention the fact that you get ALL of the DLC, and EVERY Lara Croft outfit is already unlocked!!!!!!!
This game is one of my favorites. I love everything about it... The story, the graphics, the detail, the environment, everything. I had to get it for both my ps4 and Xbox and I just bought Rise of the Tomb Raider so I can't wait to play all of them.
I loved this game. It kept me playing with the extremely intense moments and the amazing combat. I give it a 10. I’ve tried the multiplayer recently and no one plays anymore so I’ve never really played it cause I can’t find a match.
The last Tomb Raider game I played before this was TR2 for PSX and JESUS CHRIST was this a total 180 in theme and atmosphere. Best $4.49 I’ve spent in a long time.

This game for me passed up uncharted 2 as my 2nd favorite game. I love that it isn't super actiony, it's very slow and emersive, I loved collecting and that you didn't have a wave of enemies everyone you turned a corner like for example uncharted. This game is more about telling a story, it's an interactive movie, and I loved every bit. There are great games yet to be releases, but as of right now, this game holds my Game of the year position.
Reviewing the review: 2:59 "Lara move naturaly and convidently..." but doesn't feel so much exciting and dangerous because mostly you don't fall (doesn't fall off cliff,automaticly jumps and lands correctly, etc) that's why too bad for the beatiful envirement with huge hights it takes away the fear of falling. But I like the pace though. 3:45 The puzzles aren't that ingenius but well made and you get a lot of hints, I recommend TR4 for ingenius puzzles. 4:45 all of the games these days have MP...why!? I think it's easily made, allthough still could've spent the time for campaign gameplay. Overall it's 8.5 in my opinion. Loved the horrific scenes!
I absolutely loved this game. I hated how easy it was to defeat enemies in Underworld and this game did not disappoint in that department! Not to mention the story was intriguing, I've always wondered how everything started.
Had this in my steam library for over 3 years but only played 10 min and deleted it. Redownloaded it to entertain myself and once past 30 min the game starts to come alive and boy this is one hell of a game. Truly amazing. Can;t wait to complete this and move onto the next 2 in the series. Def 10/10
This was my very first experience with the Tomb Raider series, and I must say, I'm very impressed and I am having an incredible amount of fun. Prior to playing this game, I had never even seen so much as a screenshot or video from the series. The only two things I knew about the series prior to my purchase was the name of the series and the main character's name. That's really it. I'm now looking forward to purchasing Rise of the Tomb Raider as well.
The multiplayer is actually pretty awesome...when it works.. I could get behind a mp game like this if they touched up the shooting mechanics, made bigger maps and fixed match making issues. It lags like crazy during the day. But it's the most organic mp experience I've played if you don't count AC. But I enjoy it, nowhere near perfect, but has potential. :)

the game is great at 360 and ps3 butots far more Superior at the pc. the oc graphics makes the game look like it was released today. i actually finished the game for about 3 hours ago at the oc and man its fantastic. on the pc you get better textures, better framerate. better tesselation and so on. but its great at the xbox 360 as well.

(2) so i felt that i really had to play the first (i know its a reboot) but hot damn. this game is intense i mean my jaw dropped at points in the game, like the burning village part. since you have a 360 you can already play rise of the tomb raider since it was a timed xbox exlusive. poor ps4 gamers had to wait until december this year. so im currently playing the waiting game
it's pretty enjoyable. but one thing I think they fixed in the next game: a majority of the tombs (puzzles) are completely optional and not part of the main game.
I hated the story more than anything, the boring cliche of the expedition made want to wish they would take them away, and that would have made no difference, the game could have had Lara, Roth and Sam and that would be it, and Lara's development as a character was fucked in this game too, what a waist of a good story, I hope they get there shit together in the sequel
After playing The Last of Us nothing impresses me story wise...the game was incredibly moving with no flaws in the storyline whatsoever. Each character is simply amazing. Naughty Dog makes the best graphics too; no argument there at all...gameinformer and ign both state this. If you are deciding between Tomb Raider and Uncharted 3 but haven't played The Last of Us you are cheating yourself to not experience this emotional masterpiece. But they are all great games that need to be played.
Eh I kind of thought there were too many filler sections gameplay wise and the gun play was too clunky for me, though I never finished it either. But to each his own I suppose.
In my opinion, I personally think that if you are looking for a great story play The Walking Dead Game by Telltale, I think it's a lot better than The Last of Us storywise, but I do love the multiplayer for The Last of Us.
Finally got round to playing this game. Was put off Tomb Raider for years due to the image and wasn't keen on the gameplay. But this game is amazing. Love how the story is a lot more aggressive and darker, not to mention all the awesome action sequences that you actually control rather than just press a button. Truly favour this over the Uncharted series now. Love the puzzles too which seemed to be lacking in Uncharted.
You should try playing some of the older Tomb Raider games! They are only like $6 each on Steam now! I personally like those better, but the Reboot was indeed a great game :).
Kyle Kirkpatrick I actually have the old Trilogy, but when I tried to play them the mechanics were just too old to enjoy. Halfway through Dishonoured at the moment, but look forward to getting Rise of the Tomb Raider. Think it will be my final 360 purchase before moving to the PS4/Xone consoles.

I agree. It was short. I thoroughly enjoyed it though. For me it has just been leap frogged though, by Uncharted 3. The other day I bought an LG D2343 Cinema 3D Monitor that I hooked up to my PS via an HDMI 1.4 cable. To be honest though, although I still love Lara Croft in her latest incarnation, now that I have 3D capabilty, Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception in 3D surpasses Tomb Raider quite considerably. Of all the 3D games, UC3 really sets the bar as far as I'm concerned.

Michael Ian Ross You're giving the story way too much credit. If anything it is as shallow, forced and uninspired as the game-play. Not to mention that all of the side characters consisted of 2-Dimensional stereotypes, the worst kind a child could've written.

Like complaining that FIFA doesnt give you the RPG and world that pokemon does or something I agree with the other things you said except that one line :P. Also number ratings are usually bs and obviously opinionated, I think we should focus more towards the actual content of the review.
Finally have a PC that runs this game properly. Really enjoying it! Playing with an Xbox controller :)
I tried this game a couple weeks ago, and didn't care about a single person by the end (except Sam, who connected with Lara most directly at the beginning and therefore gave the story some personal stakes for Lara). Pain inflicted on a character is not character development, and lore found in hidden documents should not replace character writing and interactions in the plot itself. I loved the tombs, though, but THERE NEEDED TO BE MORE OF THEM. How the heck are there only five tombs as avoidable side quests in a Tomb Raider game?
One of best games I ever played om any console. Hardly am breathless after playing a game but this one was so action packed and on the edge, truely an adventure
This game is one of the few games that i has enjoyed in the last 5 years. I love everything about it, only one thing bad about Tomb Raider is sometime it might sound like you're watching porn, so i had to turn down volume a bit

Tomb raider trilogy easily my favorite games of all time 🙌 The way it makes you think , the learning aspect of it ..man just everything 10/10 hoping we get a next gen reveal soon with the same cast. Would get a ps5 for that reason alone.

Yes, but Last year, most people didn't get the original, and the graphics were not that good, Also, I never got a chance to play the original one because I didn't know it was THAT good. I'm getting Definitive for the PS4 because the games I have for PS4 are crap and this is the best one. Not to mention the fact that you get ALL of the DLC, and EVERY Lara Croft outfit is already unlocked!!!!!!!
And I can get the same thing xbox 360, ps3 and pc.
The graphics are not as sharp as next gen.

This game is one of my favorites. I love everything about it... The story, the graphics, the detail, the environment, everything. I had to get it for both my ps4 and Xbox and I just bought Rise of the Tomb Raider so I can't wait to play all of them.

The last Tomb Raider game I played before this was TR2 for PSX and JESUS CHRIST was this a total 180 in theme and atmosphere. Best $4.49 I’ve spent in a long time.

one of the best game i have ever played on ps3.. In my opinion this game is much better than uncharted 3 in almost every single way. Story, game play, is just enough to beat uncharted 3. i have played both and without a doubt i will choose Tomb Raider.

I'll still choose Uncharted 2 and 3 over this but no doubt Tomb Raider come close.

This game for me passed up uncharted 2 as my 2nd favorite game. I love that it isn't super actiony, it's very slow and emersive, I loved collecting and that you didn't have a wave of enemies everyone you turned a corner like for example uncharted. This game is more about telling a story, it's an interactive movie, and I loved every bit. There are great games yet to be releases, but as of right now, this game holds my Game of the year position.

2:59 "Lara move naturaly and convidently..." but doesn't feel so much exciting and dangerous because mostly you don't fall (doesn't fall off cliff,automaticly jumps and lands correctly, etc) that's why too bad for the beatiful envirement with huge hights it takes away the fear of falling. But I like the pace though. 3:45 The puzzles aren't that ingenius but well made and you get a lot of hints, I recommend TR4 for ingenius puzzles. 4:45 all of the games these days have MP...why!? I think it's easily made, allthough still could've spent the time for campaign gameplay. Overall it's 8.5 in my opinion. Loved the horrific scenes!

Had this in my steam library for over 3 years but only played 10 min and deleted it. Redownloaded it to entertain myself and once past 30 min the game starts to come alive and boy this is one hell of a game. Truly amazing. Can;t wait to complete this and move onto the next 2 in the series. Def 10/10

I have replayed bioshock 1 and 2 once each. Infinite, I barely even wanted to finish the game, let alone replay it.
This was my very first experience with the Tomb Raider series, and I must say, I'm very impressed and I am having an incredible amount of fun. Prior to playing this game, I had never even seen so much as a screenshot or video from the series. The only two things I knew about the series prior to my purchase was the name of the series and the main character's name. That's really it. I'm now looking forward to purchasing Rise of the Tomb Raider as well.

The multiplayer is actually pretty awesome...when it works.. I could get behind a mp game like this if they touched up the shooting mechanics, made bigger maps and fixed match making issues. It lags like crazy during the day. But it's the most organic mp experience I've played if you don't count AC. But I enjoy it, nowhere near perfect, but has potential. :)

the game is great at 360 and ps3 butots far more Superior at the pc. the oc graphics makes the game look like it was released today. i actually finished the game for about 3 hours ago at the oc and man its fantastic. on the pc you get better textures, better framerate. better tesselation and so on. but its great at the xbox 360 as well.

(2) so i felt that i really had to play the first (i know its a reboot) but hot damn. this game is intense i mean my jaw dropped at points in the game, like the burning village part. since you have a 360 you can already play rise of the tomb raider since it was a timed xbox exlusive. poor ps4 gamers had to wait until december this year. so im currently playing the waiting game
it's pretty enjoyable. but one thing I think they fixed in the next game: a majority of the tombs (puzzles) are completely optional and not part of the main game.

I hated the story more than anything, the boring cliche of the expedition made want to wish they would take them away, and that would have made no difference, the game could have had Lara, Roth and Sam and that would be it, and Lara's development as a character was fucked in this game too, what a waist of a good story, I hope they get there shit together in the sequel

After playing The Last of Us nothing impresses me story wise...the game was incredibly moving with no flaws in the storyline whatsoever. Each character is simply amazing. Naughty Dog makes the best graphics too; no argument there at all...gameinformer and ign both state this. If you are deciding between Tomb Raider and Uncharted 3 but haven't played The Last of Us you are cheating yourself to not experience this emotional masterpiece. But they are all great games that need to be played.

Eh I kind of thought there were too many filler sections gameplay wise and the gun play was too clunky for me, though I never finished it either. But to each his own I suppose.
In my opinion, I personally think that if you are looking for a great story play The Walking Dead Game by Telltale, I think it's a lot better than The Last of Us storywise, but I do love the multiplayer for The Last of Us.

Finally got round to playing this game. Was put off Tomb Raider for years due to the image and wasn't keen on the gameplay. But this game is amazing. Love how the story is a lot more aggressive and darker, not to mention all the awesome action sequences that you actually control rather than just press a button.
Truly favour this over the Uncharted series now. Love the puzzles too which seemed to be lacking in Uncharted.
You should try playing some of the older Tomb Raider games! They are only like $6 each on Steam now! I personally like those better, but the Reboot was indeed a great game :).
Kyle Kirkpatrick I actually have the old Trilogy, but when I tried to play them the mechanics were just too old to enjoy. Halfway through Dishonoured at the moment, but look forward to getting Rise of the Tomb Raider. Think it will be my final 360 purchase before moving to the PS4/Xone consoles.

For me it has just been leap frogged though, by Uncharted 3. The other day I bought an LG D2343 Cinema 3D Monitor that I hooked up to my PS via an HDMI 1.4 cable.
To be honest though, although I still love Lara Croft in her latest incarnation, now that I have 3D capabilty, Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception in 3D surpasses Tomb Raider quite considerably. Of all the 3D games, UC3 really sets the bar as far as I'm concerned.
