This video is actually very helpful because the Grinch printed calendars that my daughter bought are designed like this one. They didn’t with any instructions! I was just going to figure out my own way to sew them.
Just found your video and love the way you have sewn this panel. I never quilted or backed the pockets and was always disappointed in the finished look. I'm definitely following your instructions as your panel look s lovely 💐💐😊☘️
You did it again - another great video. So easy to understand. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to show us these things and for all of your fun videos.
I feel like this will be my go-to video for the remainder of the year! I've never thought to sandwich the pockets first. Looks so professional & makes it stronger. I will definitely try your techniques.
Thank you for the tutorial Ellie, my material has just arrived, it will be completely new to new but as your tutorials are nice and clear I am sure I will manage.
I enjoyed this very much! This is a darling advent wall hanging! It is so beautiful and festive. I loved your additions of quilting around each picture as well! xx
❤️I love your step-by-step instruction so very thorough. Your panel really looks lovely! I am so excited to get started❤️I really appreciate all your hard work doing these great tutorials!!!
Hi Ellie thank you for making this tutorial it is lovely to watch you work. I must say I have sewing machine envy my sewing machine is ancient and we have a love hate relationship x
Unfortunately I procrastinated and I have two calendars I’d like to make, and give as gifts. I don’t know if I have time to get them done, and quilted in time because I still have a few other gifts to make. I refuse to give substandard gifts, so I may have to give the calendars a little late.
Thanks so much for such an excellent tutorial, your teaching points are very clear and so easy to follow. I’m struggling with the quilt stitching on the boxes; I’ve practised quite a lot using the walking foot and an open toe sprung quilting foot, but can’t achieve the accuracy it needs. I’d be very grateful for any advice you can share and also for advice on best threads to use for the quilting stitches. Many thanks
Are you using a walking foot? Using a quilting needle may help and making sure you use a nice new needle way also help. If you need more of a guild to see along, I find masking tape is useful as you can reposition it and it does not mark your work x
Thank you for taking the time to show us how you are completing your advent calendar. I live in California and just received mine. I bought the kit that has the backing fabric included. I was unsure what you meant about wadding so I was so glad you published this video well ahead of the start so now I can go out and get it and know what it looks like. I would not have bought this calendar before you talked about it because the finishing of this kind of project is so important. Otherwise it could turn out very easily into something one might not be proud to put on the wall. I wish I could do free hand quilting maybe I could do some hand embroidery instead. Do you think that would look ok?
The only difference between hand quilting and embroidery is you sew through more layers when quilting. Although I suppose embroidery is more intricate most of the time. I think that is an absolutely fantastic idea! x x
Thank you so much Ellie, I followed every step and I love my finished advent calendar. Can I ask how you hung it? Did you add tabs to hang it on a dowel / wooden pole?
Hi Ellie, thanks so much for doing the brilliant tutorial! After watching your podcast I went straight to buy the panel and am looking forward to your Advent sew-a-long. I’m not a quilter, so when you say quilt around the little pictures eg hedgehog, do you machine stitch or hand stitch? Is there anything I need to know about quilting before doing this? I know I could not quilt the pics but I do think they look nicer as you’ve done them. Thanks, Kathryn x

Thank you for watching! I folded squares of fabric and sewed them into the orders and popped a wooden dowel in it to hang x x

Hi Kathryn, I used a free motion machine stitch to do mine. But you could just as easily hand quilt them. Looking forward to seeing yours x
Where can I purchase this Christmas panel from please? The link above does not work. Thank you.
Rachel Gilson this video was recorded a couple of years ago so it is an old panel. I am afraid I don’t know where you would get it from now x
@@crafthousemagic Ok thank you. Its a shame as it's a lovely design.
