  • On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Mike's Beer Bar, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo to discuss the Steelers' trade options in the NFL draft. Could they trade up for names like Washington OT Troy Fautanu or Oregon State OT Tailese Fuaga? Or trade back from No. 20 overall in the first round, depending upon which of their targets they feel will still be available? Could they move their top pick for a player like San Francisco 49ers receivers Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel? Or Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson? What are the top questions facing GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin heading into the draft? And what surprises could they have in store on Day 2? Our duo tackles those topics and more.

    Unlike some people Kahn is smart and he knows that for the 49ers to move up to 20 costs draft picks and getting Aiyuk costs the same picks. It would be a wash, the Steelers get Aiyuk and whoever they want at 31, which is the best value, 2 players in rd 1. Just saying there are more ways to get Aiyuk if that’s truly what they want.

      Finally someone with common sense. People are talking like it’s impossible to get Aiyuk..

    • @TheRomans9Guy
      @TheRomans9Guy 13 дней назад +3

      Seriously. When a player doesn’t want to play somewhere it the team is really stuck behind the 8-ball. Like what happened with Diontae and Kenny. The closer it gets to draft day Aiyuk’s value becomes less and less.

      @@12ell47 yeah just tired of everyone saying we got to give up draft picks to get him and we don’t even know if they want him lol. I like him for Russ to flourish instead of a rookie that we can get in the 2nd or 3rd round but that’s just me.

      @@TheRomans9Guy that’s my point but these sports geniuses keep saying we got to give up our 1st RD pick to get him and we don’t. There are other options like I mentioned.

      You can get away with Aiyuk with just trading a 3rd round pick because you also have to pay him a big contract. This is what happen with Sneed and others. The only reason they haven't taken a pick like that for Aiyuk yet is because they are holding out hope that they can agree to a deal with him.

    Trade back with Cardinals or Packers and move up from pick 51.
    Ideally id trade pick 20&84 for the Commanders picks 36&40 and target Kingsley Suamataia as our future RT and grab a center in Zach Frazier before taking a WR at 51. That covers a lot of needs and then you can draft a big athletic CB at 98 like Khyree Jackson or Cam Hart for ST and to develop. Maybe another WR in the 4th bcus there is so much depth but a RB like Isaac Guerendo who is a ST ace could be a great pick also. It might be hard to pass on Luke McCaffrey at 119 if he's still there, though.

    Not worried about 1st rd - there are 25 great prospects. The 2nd round is a PROBLEM - the drop off after 45 is substantial. Frasier, Pearsall, Melton, Sainristil, Wilson will all be gone. Trade up or you're stuck with a project.

    • @Dang026
      @Dang026 13 дней назад

      Projects are good. Lamar, Josh Allen... Jefferson was viewed as a project because he almost exclusively played as a #2 in the slot. Brian Thomas Jr is expected to go around pick 20 and he has a very limited route tree and Xavier Worthy is undersized and needs to add muscle to his frame to hold up at the next level but they both have elite potential as compared to a guy like Wilson who is a reliable slot guy lacking elite upside.

    Steelers going to draft Barton and move him to center. I hope not. My dream scenario is getting Latham and JPJ. They will have to trade back up to get JPJ but their line would be set for the next 10 years. Steelers are another year away from being contenders. They have too many holes to fill. Dl, wr, cb, c, and OT. Can’t fill everything in the draft in 1 year. At this point, unsigned free agents are unsigned free agents for a reason

    Who told everyone that we even need a Tackle, they love Dan, we don’t like him lol. At this time we Need a center and WR. Or it appears that way. It’s fun to talk about but you guys assume what’s important to the Steelers because it’s important to you all. Maybe the Steelers biggest need to them is TE? We will not know until the first round pick, then you will see all these guys say, I knew it all along haha. Try trusting Kahn and our team to address our needs and make us a better team in 2024! Kahn has proven he knows how to acquire the talent for a stick of gum and he will do it again. Go Steelers

      @@knights_2173 Before the reign of Khan I would totally have agreed with you. Now though, anything is possible. I could totally see Khan trading back from 20 to 25-28, still picking up exactly who he wanted in round 1, and then using the extra 3rd round pick from that trade back to do something out of the ordinary. Like, ‘well, we have this extra pick we weren’t planning on, and xyz QB is on the board right here, let’s go for it?’ I’m just saying I could see a way it could happen.
