    Two more ways to save. 1) all the discards from the chives can go in your compost pile and not down the drain. 2) rinse your chives over a container and use the water in your garden.

    What a lovely video. I especially appreciated that you didn't add any hokey background music to it. Seeing your living room rafters and where you place your herbs was like getting to visit your home. Thank you.

    Loved your video. Love to garden but never really got in to herbs. Started chives this year and your video was nicely detailed. Would love to see how you use your dried chives in chive butter!

    The only thing I don't like about curing things out in the open is debris on food. I always use a brown bag unless its onions. The brown bag method is so easy. Look it up.....happy collecting.

    This may be a dumb question but I am very new too harvesting, but after you put them in mason jars do you store them in the fridge or just in the pantry?

      @@HomesteadCorner True! I had some herbs that wouldn't stop from growing back in an abandoned planter I have. I didn't know they were chives until recently (I must have planted them there years ago) and I didn't water them, they just got rain water and they keep coming back with beautiful flowers. From now on I'll take care of them!

    Doesn't this process decrease the fresh flavor?

    • @magnifikris
      @magnifikris 5 лет назад +1

      Any drying process lessens the vibrant flavor of any herb. If you want to preserve the harvest and use later, this process is fine. I personally use a dehydrator. They're best enjoyed in rehydrating recipes, such at marinades and dips. Happy harvesting.
