    Can anything be added to the drying process to reduce brittleness? J Scheanke suggested an additive (possibly glycerin) to soften hydrangeas.

      Thank you for asking! Most foliages and some flowers can be preserved with glycerin, which will help the stems stay soft and also retain more of the “fresh” look. Simply mix 1 part glycering with 2 parts water in a vase. Put stems in the vase and allow them to absorb the glycerin solution. Experiment to see which flowers work best with glycerin. I would try roses, chrysanthemums, dahlias, lavender, and statice, as well as bells of Ireland, eucalyptus, and many other foliage types.

    Does your barn loft freeze? Have you noticed how dried flowers tolerate the freezing temperatures? Thanks!

    • @JohnnysSeeds
      @JohnnysSeeds  10 месяцев назад +1

      Our barn loft is insulated but it certainly does freeze! In our experience, the flowers will hold as long as they are completely dried before freezing weather. Often, flowers are harvested here with plenty of time to properly dry before the inside of our barn freezes. We hope this information is helpful!

    How many days before the flowers will dry?

    • @JohnnysSeeds
      @JohnnysSeeds  10 месяцев назад

      Drying time will vary depending on the size of the flower and stems, flowers should dry in approximately 1 month. When the flower is dry, the stems and flowers will feel rigid.

    What is the lifetime of a dried flower? Will they hold color forever?

    • @JohnnysSeeds
      @JohnnysSeeds  6 месяцев назад

      That can depend on the flower and flower care! They usually last quite a long time if properly dried. Dried flowers do lose color the more direct sunlight that they are exposed to.
