  • Blake, Mouton, and McCanse's Managerial Grid Theory of Leadership is foundational to numerous leadership and management areas of research. Note: The model is sometimes referred to as "Blake and Mouton's Managerial Grid" and sometimes as "Blake and McCanse's." Jane Mouton died in 1987 and McCanse then joined Blake's research team.

As an organizational coach (Lean-Agile Leadership, teamwork, etc.) it is often difficult to help managers understand that there is something wrong with seeing people as "resources" and calling them such. This view is deeply baked into 95% of corporate cultures, and I believe it goes back to "scientific management" theory, Taylor etc.. Even "Human Resources" as a department is part of the problem, it is right in the very name.

My dominant style is authoritative and as a backup I go for the country club style and by the way, such a clear delineation of the concept.Thank you!

Hi Sreenidhi! I'm curious to know what are the dominant leadership styles in your past and present work environments -- do you see a mix of these styles and/or some styles prevail more than other styles in your workplace cultures. Thanks!

i am more of a exploitative and work oriented leader i like to migrate within these grids as main goal is to get the work done whatever way possible.

It would have been wonderful if you include the paternalistic and opportunistic styles in this video as well.

Interesting idea. Maybe in a future video. Those aren't on the grid, though, so I just stuck with the model as is.
