    Awesome locomotive! I got my SD-9 a couple weeks ago and have not been disappointed with it. I ended up getting the GN Sky Blue SD-9 that is being done by Berwyns Toys and Trains as a custom run. MTH really did a amazing job with the SD-9. A great locomotive at a good price.

      Thanks for watching! I think I need another one to pair up with it or a “dummy Unit”. Those locomotives are beautiful. I think MTH is doing a great job with these as well. Basically getting a premium sounding / engineered product for the price of Lionel’s entry level stuff that’s not cutting it.

      @@NixCrossing yea a lot of Lionel’s entry stuff has no where near enough features compared to the MTH engines.

    I liked this unit so much I got two of them. They look great running two trains at once. Great smokers too.

    Great looking locomotive Nick. I really like the decision MTH has made to push some of their Premier models down to the RailKing line, as they increase the detail level on the Premier line. As I do not have room for an 0-72 layout, I appreciate the increased detail I can have on a smaller layout. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks so much for watching! Me too , I love those switchers they just came out with and they run so much better than the legacy Lionel ones.

    A neat piece of gear Nick! Congratulations!
    A little historic note here on "long hood forward" and "high hoods." During the steam to diesel transition era a lot of veteran engineers were apprehensive about not having all that steel in front of them in case of a collision, E and F units made them nervous. When the GP and SD units came out they were much happier and more comfortable with either the long hood or even the short hood running forward.
    One practical use of the short hood was for housing a steam generator for passenger car heating.
    A fun video as always, thanks!

      Thanks so much for all the information on these units. I really appreciate learning about these amazing machines. Steam generator, maybe that’s why it smokes so much 😂 🚂💨

    Nice layout modeling. We haven't lit the 40 bldgs on our new trainboard, many street lights. Do you use a separate transformer for the lights on your layout. We've yet to learn about led's, resisters, small 30$ computer boards that act as junctions for lights. Its a lot to learn and tutorial videos are, thus far, hard to find. Gary

    • @NixCrossing
      @NixCrossing  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching! This may sound complicated but I run all my lights at a fixed voltage 14 VAC accessory line on my MRC Dual Transformer. The 14VAC is the max I’ll run any of my accessories or lights because I have a mix of LEDS and Incandescents. For LEDs I use “Evemodel” LEDs bought on Amazon. They do not require a special board and all resistors / diodes are wired within. Just apply AC/DC power from 8-18 volts and they work. Just make sure to read the description when searching for them. They are fairly inexpensive and work up to 100,000 hours. Hope this helps 🚂💨

    Hello! I know this unrelated to the video, but Today I purchased a brand new K-Line mp-15 from an antique store. The locomotive has no sound, and I wondering about how hard it would be to install a diesel rail sounds kit? Or if it would work. I would love a little guidance if you’ve had experience in that field! Thank you!

    • @NixCrossing
      @NixCrossing  Год назад

      Very cool find! Yes , you can search on EBay for a “Railsounds” kit and they will work with conventional locomotives. The other option is to search ERR by 3rd rail (electric Rail Road) and search for Railsounds kits. They are really easy to install. The only problem may be the real estate inside that locomotive

    • @nickdonner6330
      @nickdonner6330 Год назад +1

      @@NixCrossing that was definitely something I’ve thought about. I’ve yet to see how much room I have to work with in there. I’m honestly blown away with the power of that locomotive though!

    • @NixCrossing
      @NixCrossing  Год назад

      @@nickdonner6330 I had a similar k line switcher , the reverse unit takes up a lot of space. I think ERRs units are a lot smaller than the old Railsounds boards

    • @nickdonner6330
      @nickdonner6330 Год назад

      @@NixCrossing I’ll definitely compare them online as best I can. I think it would be a huge upgrade to the locomotive. I appreciate the feedback and help!
