I agree with you on the time frame of when to start a fall garden. It really needs to be as early as mid July to early August. Last year I started much later and ran into problems when the cold weather came.

One thing to remember with timing as you get into October and early November is, even if the temperatures are still fine for these cool weather crops, there is less light per day than in the spring. Carrots, for example, might take 90-100 days or even longer to reach full size. Last year I started some in September 1st, but that was too late. I only got baby carrots by the time the hard frosts came in early December.
Great point. Thanks. For more information of tomato catfacing and vegetable gardening, visit my blog, The Rusted Garden Journal at therustedgarden.blogspot.com/2023/07/the-potential-cause-and-treament-for.html

I believe I told you that an activist destroyed my mother's garden. Today, I pulled up my squash except for my Baby Butternut and Burgess Buttercup squash which still have fruit ripening on the vines. I also removed my cucumber vines. My new cucumber transplant is beginning to climb the trellis, and I have more cucumbers sprouting. My Late Nagasaki Cabbage seedlings have sprouted, and I'm waiting for the Hilton Cabbage to sprout. I sowed seeds for two zucchini, a crookneck squash, Danvers, Navone Gold Rutabagas, Purple Top Turnips, Tokinashi Turnips, and Cantaloupe. Next on my planting list is potatoes, in two weeks. In mid August, I'll plant Komatsuna, Pak Choi, Kohlrabi, and peas. In September, after the temperature has cooled down a bit, I will plant lettuce, and Malaga Radishes. The Malaga Radish has the best roasted flavor, and they are purple. I'll also sow seeds for my winter tomato experiment, Early Girl Bush, Tom Thumb, and Black Krim. I will also transplant six pepper plants into the polytunnel to see if I can keep them producing all winter. So far, the best producing peppers have been Hungarian Yellow Wax, Jimmy Nardello, Corona di Toro, and Lipstick.
@@nickhayley Take your pick, Antifa, BLM, Globalists, Environmental activists. It isn't a random high school prank. I live in a rural area fifteen minutes from the nearest town. My mother's garden isn't the only rural garden to be sprayed with glyphosate in the local area.
My first frost in zone 8b Nov 15. However Austin, TX is known to be hot up until Christmas sometimes. So should I start cool weather crops end of August or Sept? I emptied out my containers, washing them and preparing for fall. Collard green are naturally a little bitter. Add a tablespoon white vinegar or a little sugar and it will cut that. See southern style recipes.
It's a great plant. And frost tolerant Visit my blog, The Rusted Garden Journal for more information and other garden articles: therustedgarden.blogspot.com/2023/07/how-to-make-mason-jar-herb-garlic-olive.html
Hey Gary! Get yourself a (bug-a-salt) grind up epsom salt for the ammo and kill all of those cabbage moths. 👍👍😊I use mine a lot and it works great, you can get them up to 4 feet away 😊

hi i am having trouble with mold on my zucchini plants i am using miracle-gro organic and i dropped a hand full of it on the pament and it got molded after a week or so what do you think
Gary, can you advise how to grow lettuces and herbs indoor throughout the winter? I’m in the Pacific Northwest in Oregon on the west side, I believe it’s zone 8. I’d love to be able to harvest and feed my family fresh lettuce all winter. Thank you!
You need grow light. I have videos on growing tiny Tim tomatoes and spinach on my channel. Basic white LED grow lights will work. My blog The Rusted Garden Journal is now getting some TLC. Ill we posting new garden articles in there several times a week. DIY recipes is the next series. Cheers!
So I had to pull all my pole Lima twenty some plants because rust starting in early July and all my bush beans about another fifteen plants because rust .and I started all my tomatoes by direct sowing witch I normally do not do because of rust and other diseases I’m very frustrated wit this year. and I don’t no what to do here we r almost in august my question to u is their something I can do over winter or fall to prevent these things from happening again I would be much appreciate ur insight and expertise
You can stop them but you can start spraying 2 weeks early before they arrive. That is the best method. But nothing to stop them from being in your garden or showing up My blog The Rusted Garden Journal is now getting some TLC. Ill we posting new garden articles in there several times a week. It seems like a "sales pitch" I recently got my wife into gardening, which is a big deal. Anyway I I sent her your video and the first thing she said was, I don't like it when they try to sell you stuff like garden hoses on reels. I tend to agree and this having to go other places to fully understand the video and the teaching is not a good idea. Love the channel 🙌
LOL sometimes they are but, I need the income. So I do space them out. But I use everything I really show for sale. Have her watch a few more please to see the balance. Good luck in our garden.

How horrible. To what end??? Why is a garden a problem?
@@Gigi2you It is healthy food. Activists are trying to disrupt the food supply, so you are dependent on MNRA poisoned food, and bugs,
