Hi! "Northern" gardener here, Zone 5b Iowa. We're at about 50 days until frost and I just sowed peas, lettuce, kale, carrots, pansies, spinach and zucchini. Yes, more zucchini! Last year I had some harvest in 45 days and it's in a grow bag so if I need to move it inside for a night, I can. It's not too late for lots of stuff in my area!💚🌿
Thank you, that’s a great insight! I’m not super familiar with what it’s like to grow in northern zones. That’s great you can still plant so many things! Do you have covers?
Nice to see you got your own RUclips channel Meg, Been watching you on Epic Garden with Kevin. Ether I watch on my phone or if I’m home I watch RUclips on my TV. Joe from Springfield Missouri.
Excited to try the Tatsoi, I tried some bok choy in the spring but we had a quick change from cold to hot and they bolted immediately. Excited for things to cool off here for Autumn planting!
You will love the tatsoi! And yes, it’s so much harder for me to grow these cool weather crops in spring as well, because we barely have a spring where I’m located. Everything just bolts like crazy. But fall is always a great time to grow here!
My problem is, having enough space for the fall crops. I still have summer stuff going and not a lot of room for fall brassicas. Might have to do them in containers and plan better for next year.
I always struggle with this too! This year I did a little better but still crowded. I’m going to take out some tomatoes that are diseased, and also when my corn is done soon these will go in it’s place. Timing is always so hard to work out! But brassicas do excellent in containers!
Texas 8a My sunflowers were decimated by grasshoppers this year and turned black. Also covered in thrips and aphids. I won’t be growing them inside my garden again. I will grow them in a different area from now on.
Oh no!! I’m so sorry. Do you have any lizards in your garden? They usually take care of my grasshoppers! Little anoles are the best at helping in the garden
@@meggrowsplants I see an occasional tiny lizard but our chickens take care of a lot of grasshoppers but they are 12 feet in the air hiding from the chickens 😂
Hey Meg! What do you do about Spiders? If you see one in your garden, do you kill them? Or use a repellent? I'm a huge aracnaphobe! Today is my first time planting seeds, and I already saw a brown spider!💀
I bought it from Costco about 3 years ago. Here’s the link to it! www.costco.com/cedarcraft-self-watering-elevated-cedar-planter-with-greenhouse-and-bug-cover.product.100742725.html
It’ll go in the greenhouse! But if I didn’t have that I’d be just letting them germinate outside since it’s warm enough. Or you can def do grow lights as well
So I did the chicken thing during Covid and now I’m starting to garden, so sort of backward from you maybe? I have to get steroid shots to be outside in the spring 😒. I think the hardest part for me to start a fall garden will be teeing out my first plants (assuming they make it all summer🔥) Anyway, enjoying your videos… I’m in 7a and relying on similarly located gardeners for some good insights :)
I stopped growing lettuce bc it would become infested with slugs, any tips on how to prevent that besides the beer trick...im in rhode island...blessings ❤
You can try planting herbs they don’t like, like rosemary, sage etc but honestly that hasn’t worked that well for me :( a lot of people like sprinkling a circle of diatomaceous earth around their veggies but just be aware that can kill beneficial insects too
Meg plant grocery store onion bottoms around the kale, aphids should stay away. My curly kale stayed aphid free.
Good idea!!

Me too my sweet potatoes are about to get the boot😂😂 I need that spot
Brassicas grow good in bags

Is there a list of all of the seeds you mentioned? Thanks
Where did you buy/get your raised planter with the cover? I would love to try my first 'salad box' like yours!!
