- GPB is joined by the Carter Presidential Library for a preview of the new documentary film about Carter’s journey from rural Georgia to become the 39th President of the United States followed by a live discussion with Bill Nigut and special guests Jason Carter, Dr. Andra Gillespie, and Ambassador Andrew Young.
My favorite president. Jimmy Carter Showed America what a true Christian is! When he left the White House he had a lot of debt. But he continue to work for the American people!! God bless Jimmy Carter.. 💯

I think Jimmy Carter’s legacy will be one of dignity, kindness, living a true Christian life, and especially continued service. I was proud o have a president from my state of Georgia. Mostly I was proud to have a president that demonstrated honesty, integrity, and leadership. I would like to see our leaders demonstrate the same qualities. I want my grandchildren and all Americans to to have the kind of role models that we had in President Carter. I am praying for him and his family.

I confess although I knew President Carter was deeply committed to his faith in Christ, so I liked from that alone. However, hearing of his accomplishments and challenges and how he addressed them, I became thankful to the Lord for giving us this man of integrity. Hearing of the continual lies, and selfishness in our leaders today, it is an honor to hear of someone willing to go against the grain in order to do and say what was right.
Even as I disagreed with the president. I respect him for his morals. He's a good man.
America is very fortunate to have Jimmy Carter and his wife. I greatly admire their honesty, simplicity, religious faith as well as their efforts to improve the lives of those who are less fortunate than us.

With the announcement of former President Jimmy Carter now in hospice care and on his last days on Earth, I'll say he was a good man but wasn’t a good politician. I like President Ronald Reagan and thought he was a great politician but I thought Carter was and still is a great person. Washington DC was already too toxic and corrupt for Carter to survive in, which is just sad. He was the right guy for the country, but in the wrong place and time.

I am a British naturalized US citizen with a life long facination with modern US history. Whilst all of my fellow American collegues (who I never see with a book in their hands) all tell me what a terrible president Jimmy Carter was, I have always considered Jimmy Carter to be the best modern US President aswell as the most decent. I would say he was a victim of curcumstance and bad luck. The nation was still transitioning from a war to peace time ecconomy with runaway inflation. He faced the oil shocks and the Irainian Revolution (why the CIA did not foresee this is beyond me) and then the taking of the hostages.
It is fair to say that he also became President by circumstance (Wategate, as only one example) and would not have made it anywhere near the White House as a political outsider in 'normal' times! I also feel he may have been the victim of seruptitious actions agaisnt him by hidden forces that were more aligned to the establismhment as represented by those that replaced him and all that came next with Reagan and Bush (and the criminal acts by them and the start of mass privitization and financial deregualtion) and the transformation of the country. I would also say that there was seruptitious medelling by the Reagan and Bush Team to directly compromise the release of the hostages and ensure this was not acheived while he wad still President. This story, and the factors behind it and its relevance later with Iran Contra is perhaps another story.
The only negative aspects of his foregin policy that I can think of relates to the arming of the Mujahadeen in Afganistán following the USSR invasion and the blow back that created in later years. His decision to protect US dependancy on oil triggered the creation of Central Command which, it may be fair to say, has been the most important military command in the United States. In comparison to the actions of many modern US presidents that came after him, that really is not a bad record at all!

Because Jimmy Carter is a Democrat, Earl Carter excused as a "man of his time." No such appellation would be allowed by liberals for any other historic figure. The hostage release was a deliberate affront to Carter personally, it was not because of anything he did.
