- There are so many trekking pole options out there! How do you choose the right one for you?
I share my experience with a number of trekking poles both carbon and aluminum, twist lock and speed locks, carbide and rubber tips, rubber and cork grips. I hope it helps you in your research to find your next set of trekking poles!

I just ordered the Makalu Lite yesterday. You won't believe how much I went back and forth trying to decide about antishock or not, I settle on the regular (not antishock) because a friend talked me into it, he claims they get soft after a while and they make noise when using them, either way ; I think I can't go wrong with either antishock or not. Although I am not new to hiking, this is my very first pair of poles ever, I have very weak ankles after multiple injuries throughout my life (38 y/o) and I believe the poles will reduce the chances of rolling an ankle again. Thank you for the review and advice.
Nice! Trekking poles are super helpful! Enjoy!
how are poles holding up? I just got a pair of sherpa lite and they seem great but flex in them looks a bit scary. maybe should have gotten a standard model with thicker tubes..
Very informative. You helped me make a decision. Thank you. Going to buy a pair of Leki MAKALU LITE COR-TEC AS. 👍
Awesome! Glad it helped you make a decision. Trekking poles are super helpful!
This year I bought my first set of Black Diamond Carbon poles from Gohunt and I’m still adjusting
Brian Howard how do you like them so far?
I’ve used them a fee times doin some load training and and they seemed to help, just gotta get used to using them
@@brianhoward482 Cool. I find it hard to use them when I'm the one with the weapon in hand during active hunting unless I'm hiking into or out of an area. They are always in use for shed hunting and pack-outs though!
Yeah I planned to use them on a couple pack outs but didn’t happen, so now I have them to experiment a little
After watching this Im definetely gonna use one next hunt. Yea conerned about extra weight a bit but seems to be worth it. Having the extra stability will be a huge help.
Here's what id like to do though is make it so i can use it to shoot from if I have to. I helieve it would help alot better than having to shoot from the shoulder.
O i just found some lol 360 degree adjustable monopod shooting stick, nice:)
Benjamin Webb you can totally shoot from them. Check out my elk hunt and see how I used mine for my shot: m.ruclips.net/video/DoqVjdiNax8/видео.html
Picked up a cheap pair from wallmart and it really helped me out I'll be locking on go hunt for a better quality pair. What's your thoughts on the twist lock and the lever lock
Great review!! Thank you so much. I ended up buying the pair that you "beat the crap out of." LOL They were on sale - free shipping for $59!! I'm gonna beat the crap out of mine, too... :)
Awesome! Enjoy!
If a telescopic trekking pole is used to thrust hard like a spear (in a self defense scenario), do you think the pole would endure or would it collapse? Just wondering about the durability of the locking mechanism on the telescopic poles. Thanks
I think it would probably endure.
