  • Trekking poles are a fantastic "tool" to make your hike more comfortable and make it possible to go faster, with better stability and safety. Trekking poles also helps distributing the weight and saves you back, knees and feet. I will during the vid aslo review the LEKI Khumbu Lite trekking poles.
    Today we take a look at the Why to use and How to use trekking poles. I go through the benefits and the basics what to think about.
    My choice since 3 years has been the Leki Khumbu Lite Trekking Poles. I also do a short review of those. Links to LEKI below.

    I have those very same poles in my trunk right now waiting for a quick trail hop. Got em a week ago. Had a pair already and they're terrific for these old knees.

    Thank you very much for the explanatory video. Do you know of any type of straps like those for Nordic walking that are compatible with this model? I have problems with one of my wrists and my life would improve considerably if they existed. Greetings and thanks.

      @@Xomaloga hi and thanks 🙏🏻 unfortunately I don’t know by heart any using these kind of different straps you’re talking about… my wife has them but they are just a pair of cheap ones, not hiking poles. Leki has them on the Nordic Walking poles and these 👇 have the speed lock and cork grip so might be a good alternative?

      @@roberthammenrudhThank you for your quick response. I know the poles you recommend, but I was given the Khumbu Lite and I am looking for a solution to help me with an injured wrist. Wrist straps like those used in Nordic walking would significantly alleviate the discomfort. The original Khumbu model even causes me pain during my activity, especially on descents.

    I was wondering if you had used the tri-fold version, LEKI Khumbu FX TA? I like the trifolds because they pack smaller while the telescoping is probably lighter and sturdier. Thanks.

    • @roberthammenrudh
      @roberthammenrudh  2 года назад

      Hi and a good question but unfortunately I have not! I use the telescope ones because I use it to pitch my Seek Outside Eolus and I believe the telescope ones are better for that. Trifolds are popular for the reason you mention and since LEKI makes great products my guess is it will perform well if a trifold is what you are looking for.

    a couple of questions please.
    what material is the lock mechanism (metal or plastic)?
    are the metal tips (not the rubber accessories) replaceable?
    Thanks for the reply

      First of all thanks! Glad you liked it…and regarding the Speed Lock it’s a mix of materials both plastic and metal. The tip should be replaceable, never done it myself but would be strange otherwise since it wears out…sorry I can’t give you a definite answer!

    Hi just bought same poles, I asked leki about the warranty, part of the response was they should be used by someone under 180cm and/or 75kg including any pack carried. I see you have had no problems I wonder if your total weight is above the 75kg.

    • @roberthammenrudh
      @roberthammenrudh  2 года назад +3

      Congrats, those are great poles. To the question, very strange to limit them to 75 kg or 180 cm…they go up to 135 cm in length and I weigh 75 excl backpack. I use them at 120 or 115…and my backpack is additional 10 kg. Also my friend who is 190 cm and above 100 kg have used them so no need to worry. Works perfectly also for trekking pole supported tents , very strong poles and lock mechanism.

    Do you know the difference between the Legacy Lite and Khumbu Lite? Don’t see any difference except maybe a bit of weight.

    • @roberthammenrudh
      @roberthammenrudh  8 месяцев назад +1

      They are much alike, but difference in material (shaft) and handles which result in a slightly heavier pole (legacy lite). I would choose the one with the grip you find most comfortable 🙂

    how durable those lite models are you think? i recently got sherpa lite and they flex scarily..not smth i m used to but they do feel quality still..

    • @roberthammenrudh
      @roberthammenrudh  11 месяцев назад +1

      These ones are really durable and doesn’t flex easily in my opinion. Never had a problem using them for hiking if as poles for my tent. My new trekking pole, the longer one from KOMPERDELL (camera staff) I got for using together with my Bondus Middus 1P on the other hand flex a bit easier.

      Only on their website very discreetly they mention that if u r over 80kg should go for a standard version..I m nearly 100. So far I like my choice , but I should have gotten standard leki Sherpa for just a bit more weight.

    Har du testat fizans stavar? Tycker du att leki är bättre?

    • @roberthammenrudh
      @roberthammenrudh  3 года назад +1

      Bra fråga, nej jag har inte testat Fizan men har hört gott om dom. Det viktigaste är väl att du hittar ett grepp du gillar och ett låssystem och längd du vill ha…sedan om det är Fizzan, Black Diamond eller Leki spelar ingen större roll. Så länge som man håller sig till dom etablerade märkena är kvaliteten bra.

    At 6:20 you solicit questions. Q1: How do you adjust the straps? Q2: How do you set up / break down the 3 section pole? There are no instructions and the "elegant design" is really just "non-intuitive set-up"

    • @roberthammenrudh
      @roberthammenrudh  Год назад

      So sorry not going into details during the episode but
      1) regarding how to adjust the straps there is quick lock mechanism and you only need to pull the straps upwards for it to loose and to adjust the length and only need to pull it down for it to lock again and it won’t unlock when used. Easy.
      2) the quick locks for adjusting the 3 sections is just as easy as the straps. You have a lock that you open to adjust and close to fix. The small “nut” you have you can adjust how hard the system will close and stay closed. That is needed because the poles are tapered.
      I hope this instructions help, it is more difficult to explain than to actually doing it 😄 good luck and if you have more questions…just come back to me ok 👍🏻

    If you go by plane (especially) they need to be foldable. To use them on asphalt without rubber on is quite a shame - listen to the sound of nature instead - even if you need to buy new rubber tips now and then! Keep them in your bakpack when not used.
