Don't use a hex key (Allen) wrench - you may strip the receiver port! The correct tool to remove the Multi information display is a TORX T-9. It is also the same tool to remove the screws to disassemble the multi display. The TORX T-9 fits exactly to remove the multi info display for my 2000 540. 1/4 turn counter-clockwise will release it! The time icon only appears and no other part is working with it, meaning that the operation button does not start it, but all parts of the electricity are connected and all entries are inspected. Not according to the Bentley manual, Volume 2, page 650-3. It should be a 2mm Allen wrench.

the previous owner broke the torx off. I see the broken piece inside on the underside of it.. what can i do now?
