    Thanks man!!!! My AC works now!!! I can't believe I didn't try this. I was without AC for almost a year and a half (I live in SC) so you just don't understand how much this video helped me out. My problem was that my wiring harness was corroded and prevented power from going to the fan. So I went to a local junk yard and replaced the harness. Shortly after that my AC started to work again.

    you are wrong, if you hard wire the ac compressor clutch and you hear the click sound that means the ac compressor clutch works but that can not tell you that the compressor is working.

    If your blower doesn't work try the blower resistor switch, on the 325 it is below the glove compartment to the left.

    Hey Mr.ADK25:
    Thank you for making detailed DIY Vids for troubleshoot A/C issues with your Bimmer (Even though it was 7 yrs ago!! My 2000 E39 540i A/C has not worked since buying the Car in March 2015! I'm only getting around to try and get it working because of the extreme Heat/Humidity that We had all of July '18 into Aug '18!! The main things I've tried so far was: making sure that all exposed Metal Lines were not corroded and the bolts all tight, next I check all the Fuses associated with the A/C Unit, next I also went and bought a similar recharge Can with Gauge to see if my "Freon" was low, but I hooked the Can to my Low pressure line and the Gauge showed that is was on the low side, but I only injected a very small amount, before the Gauge needle suggested I had enough Freon! So, I think it might be the Compressor, so that will be the next component to check..;-) I'll keep you updated, if I get it working again!!

    Interesting but recommending a sealant for the a/c system means even a minor repair using a shop may require a complete replacement of the system due to the sealant interfering with the shops a/c service machine.

    Hi, i've got a similar issue on my 1996 520i (the older European type). Comp not starting etc... However, when i checked on the plug that goes into the compressor, it read 13Volts and when i put a battery to the compressor, it did engage. I can't understand how it seems to be getting the voltage up to the compressor but not starting up. Any ideas?

Y'day fan stopped working. I tried tapping under glove box but still nothing happens.

    I have a 2003 BMW X5 E53 and when I first start car the a/c takes 10min to start blowing cold air(it's icy cold when it starts to work) I also notice the ac fan is deleting in turning on. Can the problem be a fan switch? If so where is located?

  • @walterdaniel8639
    @walterdaniel8639 11 лет назад

    Good questions so what do you do after you hear the click? Can you start the car, will the compressor come on so you can add freon? My problem is low pressure and compressor shuts down. I understand that, but need it to come on to add freon.
    Thanks

  • @felixrosario9979
    @felixrosario9979 2 года назад

    Red ac cap is the high side(liquid line) blue cap is the low suction side(vapor side. And it's not freon, but refrigerant.

  • @neilbateman4327
    @neilbateman4327 7 лет назад +3

    IMHO your a/c wasn't working because it was low on gas [the R134a refrigerant which you put in]. The a/c system has low and high pressure switches in it so if you are low on gas it won't start up . by the way Freeon is rather dangerous for the environment whereas R134a is not . Air con will lose approximately 5-10% a year in tiny leaks and its also worth bearing in mind that the oil in the system is mixed in with the gas. That is why its a good idea to use your a/c at least once a week as it keeps all the seals and valve etc nicely lubricated . If you are checking for leaks on your a/c system a good thing to start with is looking for oily greasy residue on pipes,joins and particularly on the a/c rad which is right at the front of the engine bay ....in front of your water radiator. Other than that its all good .

  • @dcfunhouse

    I put freon into the ac valve and the next day the pressure had dropped to nil and only hot air blowing. Does that sound like a compressor issue? Also, how would you check the compressor for clicking if the battery is in the trunk? Thanks

    ADK, I did read your response that you are color blind. Good info with one important clarification... as one of the comments noted, you pointed out the high pressure RED nipple. The low press. nipple used to fill with the refrigerant R-134 (R-12, also know as the brand Freon is used in older cars generally pre-1992 in German cars) is the nipple at the firewall closest to the windshield (from high pressure nipple, follow thick tube back toward windshield . Sometimes identified with a BLUE cap.

    I've only warm air coming from my AC. I've checked and I have enough AC coolant. When I turn on my AC the aux fan runs but the is no movement from the compressor. I put a meter on the single wire that runs to the compressor and there is 5 volts. Is that the correct voltage or should it be 12 volts ? Cheers buddy.

    Dude,
    Why didn't you check the refrigerant pressure in the system initially?
    So it sounded like you were initially low on refrigerant gas and hence the AC system would not activate due to low pressure.
    Hence the hot air coming out of the vent.

    • @rxstarscream
      @rxstarscream 7 лет назад +1

      Nah, it was a combination of things, the least of the issues being the refrigerant. The dead giveaway was the outside thermostat reading. He focused on the right things. The refrigerant wouldn't effect how his outside thermometer reads out, then jacks up the air temperature.
