Need help! 2003 GMC Sierra SLT 2 wheel drive 200,000+ miles Crank but no start. Replaced fuel pump Throttle body Idle position sensor AGR valve Map Sensor. I have fuel and fire. 2 weeks ago I started it, drove it out the drive way, got about half a mile down the road, when it started idling really high, then bogging out, and finally died. I got it started, but it wouldn't go over 5 mph. I got it parked, now it won't start.
1999 Sierra 382,000 miles. One water pump, one alternator, one fuel pump, and a power steering pump. I live in the south, no rust. These are very dependable trucks. I pull a camper or boat all the time.
Guess my 99 is a baby with 133k so far. Did water pump year ago and rear calipers. Other then that good. Well do have an actuator need replacing for ac but just living with it for now.
2003 GMC Sierra, gone through about three fuel pumps and three wheel bearings in the past 100,000 miles, from 80k to 180k. Compared to buying a new vehicle, these were inexpensive repairs. I can't get rid of the truck, it still looks beautiful to me and it's hard to find a long bed truck anymore. No rust, Rhino liner bed and tonneau cover to boot
Have had a 2000 Sierra for over 20 years and 180k miles and had none of these problems. Only part that has failed is the fuel pump at 125k, that’s it! Have meticulously maintained this truck, and it has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.
I loved my 2000 GMC Sierra it had 250k and would’ve ran another 100k with proper maintenance if a certain person would’ve paid attention to there stop sign and not T boned my truck:/ But I have a 2005 now and like it.
@@Vehement_poet I have a 2000 gmc sierra still and it has 318k miles on it. Only one of these problems in this video have happened and that's the wheel bearing. Only the passenger side. My dad owned it brand new from 2000 to 2005 and then I bought it from him and have had it ever since. Currently working on completely restoring it rather than buying a new or even a new/used truck with the prices these days. It's mostly still in great shape, but I'm going to customize it and make it like new again as much as I can. Wil eventually do an engine swap, but for now, it runs great other than a slight oil pressure issue. Only big job I've ever had to do on it was replace the transfer case. Transmission is still original. Have had many people randomly ask to buy my truck over the years and I always turn them down. I'll never get rid of her...best damn truck on the planet!
05 gmc sierra, had since new. 2wd. All 4 non 4wd parts mentioned in video lasted 15+ years and over 200k miles. My biggest issues have been the driver side a/c blend door actuator, and the vent valve for the charcoal canister.
Yup 4 wheel drive adds a ton of issues... Glad im in California because my 2004 2500hd has only had a water pump and alternator changed in the past 4 years!
you missed the absolute #1 problem with these trucks up north- brake lines. they sit on top of the frame and snow and salt builds up on them and eats them away real quick. thanks for posting
When they start rusting just replace the brake lines all at once and you wont need to worry about them. It's a bit of work but it's not rocket science and it's not as expensive as you might think compared to replacing a foot or two at a time. I live in NE Ohio and drive an '04 GMC.
I had the same problem with my 2005 GMC Sierra. Replacing all brake lines with new stainless steel lines without a lift was worthwhile but tedious. Rusted rocker panels are also a common Non-mechanical problem.
I had that issue. A shop wanted $2,500 to replace all the lines! I said they were crazy. They said they would have to bend each line. (I actually have experience in that trade in Aerospace). Instead, for $68 I bought Genuine GM OEM lines online and found a shop to replace all lines for $500. I was happy, and yes I could have done the job but had remodeling going on....
What’s wrong with your brake lines? I have an 01 and they don’t have any corrosion or anything. They look nearly perfect. (Granted the previous owners took very good care of the truck) I don’t hardly have any rust, only superficial in limited spots.
‘06 w/ 159K miles. All brake lines had to be replaced due to corrosion. Cincinnati area truck so lots of salt used on roads. Fuel lines are also on their way out due to corrosion as well.
@@vamountainman2512 how many miles? What kind of shape? That's a great price pending on what it needs. Shit parts alone are crazy high prices currently
I have a 2007, and the main problem I had was a brake line ruptured in the bend going under the radiator on the driver's side. I'm glad I was in a parking lot when it happened.
My 06 Sierra with a 5.3 with 165k still drives like new idles like the engine is off super smooth I love it..only issues I had is the cluster not working and wheel bearings replacement but other than that is pretty much a bulletproof truck..
I have had my 2006 Sierra for 14 years and everything was good until my I had to replace the transmission at 171,000 miles, replaced front wheel bearings twice (once at 22,000 miles and again at 184,000 miles), all front end ball joints tie rods at 185,000 miles, and the oil pump is going bad, so will likely need a new engine soon. Currently has 223,000 miles.
@@bobsbeard3977 wow yes am thinking of replacing all my suspension parts soon I’ve also had to replace wheel bearings twice as well but overall it’s been a great truck..cheaper to fix it than to buy a new one that’s for sure , specially now with car prices over the roof
I have a 2006 GMC SIerra 4.8 L 4WD Manual shifter on floor. Great truck. I had to resolder my instrument cluster panel board. (It went totally dead one day). works fine now. ALso replaced the idler/belt tensioner and belt. The steering shaft will develop a "clunk" that you hear when going slow speeds like in parking lots. I fixed mine by packing the steering shaft with marine grease. Someone had a video on how they did this. Took only a minute. I went through some high water and afterwards all my tail lights stopped working. It was just the wiring junction block located under the frame right behind the spare tire. Removed the block connector, cleaned the corrosion and dirt from it and reinstalled it. Easy fix. The door speakers had to be replaced as they were "buzzing". Put new shocks on it. That's about it. Super reliable vehicle. I had all the fluids changed 2 years ago. Radiator/transmission/transfer case etc. (I am in the South, so no corrosion issues). I pulled a large boat with mine for years. Use the towing switch on the gear shift. Clean the MAF sensor every so often. Makes a huge difference.
Yup I paid $350 for 4 foot of brake like and now I have another one that’s out going to cost me $1500 all the way around times like this wish I had a place to work on my own stuff
2004 Sierra 4x4 Crew cab SLT bought with 20k miles in 2006. Replace Water pump 2 times. Replace hot/cold actuator for front vents 2 times think it was the same one. Replaced front axle seals at around 100k miles. From 20k miles to 90k miles I pulled a 6,000 lbs camper about 7 times a year for 8 years. Replaced rear axle seals around 140k miles. Now have 3 exhaust manifold stud bolts broke off. Leak on Drivers side exhaust manifold. So that's the next thing I need to get fixed. gauge I like the truck and plan to see how many miles I can get on it. Use it as a spare vehicle and son drives it quit abit. He had a 700lbs camper in the bed for about 18 months and drove it around 15k miles with the camper and in the wind. I think that may have caused the rear axel seals to leak. Still runs good. And I didn't have to replace the Brakes until 140k miles. I do change fluids and get things fixed as soon as something is not right. So happy over all. It has been my favorite vehicle over the 40 years I have owned 17 different vehicles including wife and son's. So Thanks for the info on these trucks. I recommend them. No perfect vehicle but like this one overall. March 2020 Bought a 2016 Ford F150 Lariat for the aluminum body to avoid rust going forward. Hope the ford 2.7L Eco boost does as well as the GMC 5.3L v8 did.
there is a kit that relocates the knock sensor to the outside of the engine block and you extend the wire harness to plug into the factory connector. 1 knock sensor on each side of the block. GOOGLE LS KNOCK SENSOR RELOCATION.
I've got a 2004 Sierra 5.3 SLT. I bought it in 2018 with 145,000km on it. I've put just over 100,000 on it and have done regular oil changes and preventative maintenance myself such as regular oil changes, brakes, drivetrain fluid changes, spark plugs. But I've had to replace the following since I've owned it, Radiator Wheel bearings Power steering pressure hose twice (power steering pump and lines aren't built to stand -30c up in Canada) One of the Catalytic converters (may need to change or remove the other one soon) Transfer case half (upgraded to heavy duty aluminum from magnesium for the rear half of the case due to a solenoid that rubs a hole through the top of the inside over time). The biggest issue was the camshaft replacement. One of the lifters was failing due to a siezed roller and gouged itself and the lobe of the camshaft. So I pretty much had the whole top end redone including all new gaskets for the engine and a new water pump kit, timing kit. So that was a big bullet to bite. It's rusting pretty bad now kn the cab corners and wheels wells being in Canada. But I love the truck and will drive it into the ground
I have a 1999 GMC Sierra SLT Z85 that I purchased new in '99. It has around 130,000 miles on it. I have not experienced any of the problems you mentioned but I am going to double check my front wheel bearings. Problems I have had include an ABS light and ABS Control Module that needed to be resoldered, A/C Compressor failure, rear sliding window that was replaced 3 times by the Dealer under warranty and continued to leak until I installed a 3'rd party all metal track window after it was out of warranty, 4x4 selection switch on the dash needed to be resoldered, module that controls AC fan speeds failed and was replaced, needed to clean the mass air flow sensor a couple times, replaced a sensor on the fuel injection system that was causing the truck to run rough, poles on original battery broke and replaced by Dealer under warranty, and finally I just replaced the water pump in June 2021. Southern truck with no rust anywhere. Needs a new headliner, front seat covers and a paint job due to sun fading (last black vehicle I will every buy).
All I had to do was... 😁 know how it goes brother. I'd rather chase little herenortheres for $10-$60 than putting full drivetrains in fords and such. Or $18k batteries in the dipshit electrics nowadays
Brake Lines Rusting out Fuel pump Oil pressure switch Cluster shorts out.. The Frame rotting usually towards above the rear Dif Yoke seal leaking on rear diff Transfer case leaks in between the casing Exhaust manifold bolts rott away at the corners. Oh Did I mention brake lines including the abs lines lol Parking shoes Rear backing plates rotts away Rear axles seals leaking Frozen or rotted parking cables Vent valve large leak .. Rear main seal Oil cooler lines All I can think of for now Great Video still absolutely one of my favorite trucks to work on.. #ChevySierraGmlife..
Always noticed that my headlight switch doesn't seem to do anything, but didn't care to look into it. I will now order another one, thanks! I bought my 1999 GMC Sierra 2500 6.0 4wd, long-box, extended cab for $2,500 CAD with 287k in 2012. It had the engine swapped, and both front wheel bearings done by the guy I bought it from. It needed a bunch of front end parts, a new passenger window motor/regulator, and the box was in rough shape. I knew all this when I bought it, but I was only using it sparingly when I needed a truck. I just recently replaced the 2 front u-joints and transfer case front seal. I got lucky and a guy loading pine mulch into the back with a loader in 2013 wrecked my box, and their insurance put a pristine box from an '05 on complete with a new paint job for $0! Other than that I've replaced the spark plugs and fuel filter when I was having severe issues with bogging and acceleration. Runs fine now. The rocker panels are rusted both sides (central Canada...snow/salt), but I'm not sure I will bother with them as the truck still only has 297k on it 10 years later.
I just test drove one today and I really like it. But the PRNDL display and odometer don't light up. How to fix that? He also said the tow button doesn't work but I don't even know what that does.
I bought one used at 40,000 miles and drove it to 120,000 before I sold it. It was a 4 wheel drive. I had to replace the front wheel bearings and the blower motor. I loved this truck! Now I have a 2018 2 wheel drive and it is also amazing!
@@scottjohnson5828 yes. If it’s in good condition steal it! I bought a sorted nearly mint 01’ for 10K. It had 150k when I bought it and was in excellent condition. The only thing I’ve done is the fan clutch and coolant flush. (Oh and new tires because the dealership ripped off the new ones the previous owner had…🙄)
I just replaced all the hard break lines today, due to rust. Upgraded to stainless lines. Took me about 6 hours to complete the job. After market lines needed some manipulation , but it worked out OK. Hopefully they last another 300K miles. Lol
2003 5.3 4wd 128k bought new. Steering shaft. Alternator O2 sensor AC compressor Rear brakes corrosion, not salt. Door seal needed silicone caulk. Did belts, tensioners, idler several times. Headlights yellow, installed supernova leds. Doing another coolant flush with new temperature sensor and thermostat as preventative maintenance. Want to replace the crank sensor but it requires an advanced scanner tune. Looking at the Foxwell 530 scanner that is supposed to do this.
I've had none of those problems with my 1999 Sierra. The only real problem I have had is my PRNDL display failed. The rest has been normal wear items. 👍
I have a 99 Sierra just hit 130k miles. Replaced rear brake calipers and water pump. Other then that runs like a champ. Must of been good year. It’s actually more reliable then my 06 Civic. Honda’s supposed to be bullet proof. Oh well.
Just hit 160k on my 01’ step side. I have the 5.3 rwd which is awesome so pretty bulletproof. Going to totally replace the trans when it explodes with the upgraded manual model though. Not even damp yet though. Front bearings replaced, driver side caliper replaced, brake reservoir replaced. The only thing I did recently was a coolant flush and clutch fan. Suuuper easy. People said it would be hard but I just got a big wrench and a hammer, a little tap later and baby I’m free!
Thank you everyone at 1A Auto for all the informative content you post to help us, have a great 2021, stay safe, stay healthy. Regards from Galway, Ireland ;)
In regards to the encoder switch issue... I had problems with my 4wd working and the problem was the push button switch on the dash. If anyone has similar issues they should check the switch first. It may save time & money 🤑
I have a 2001 2WD (not so great during the winter months in Idaho), but it has over 320,000 miles now. My 16 year old drives it now. I also have a 2011, and it has had so many more problems than the ‘01 (had to replace collapsed AFM lifters twice). The ‘01 has its issues with that many miles, but the major components are still going strong. I know it would smoke the 2011 in a quarter mile, both have the 5.3.
I have a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 extended cab pick up truck with 295,655 miles. At 260,000 miles I replace FWD Drive shaft and RWD Drive shaft , universal joints , transfer case and one more thing the oil sending unit or my oil pump.
Own 5 of these trucks in 2500. Wheel bearing is a wear problem, other more known problems are cluster, blower resistor ,plastic door handles breaking in cold, exhaust manifolds cracks and bolts breaking , intake gasket, fuel pump,
Thank you so much for being so detailed I have a 2003 GMC sierra 1500 pick up truck and I have this horrible noise coming from the motor. I had recently the transmission repaired now the lever doesn’t want to go into gear for reverse so if it’s not one thing it’s another but I like the way you explain things cause it’s difficult trying to figure out what’s going on.
My 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 has been a good truck overall. One nagging problem is the bezels for the door switches. The plastic clips are broken that attach the bezel to the door and the bezel has to be taped in place. My understanding is the bezel must be replaced. There are several variations of the bezel which complicated the situation.
I bought an 04 brand new. Had it until this past October when another driver ran a stop sign and I collided with him totaling out my truck. I had over 408,000 miles at time of wreck. Mine was a 2wd so that transfer case sensor doesn't apply. Only problem I had in this list was the turn signal multi switch. Keep in mind I already had over 300,000 miles when this failed. Wheel bearings never replaced entire life of truck. Headlight switch never had issue. Fyi this was a 1500 ext cab with 4.8 motor. My biggest issue was the factory built transmission. Only good for 100,000 miles. Had it rebuilt with upgraded parts and got well over 200,000 with no issues. Water pump replaced 3 times total. Alternator replaced 1 time. And my AC hasn't worked for the last several years only cause I never had it fixed. And the cluster gauge had to be replaced once and later I did a solder repair on it myself.
Good to know, WW! I bought a used 2004 1500 SLE with the 5.3l last year. It had 202K on it, I've added another 4K. Have had only a problem with the drivers door outside door handle, had to de-rust and lubricate tailgate release and replace rod clips, and my cluster lights will go out or dim. Corrective action for the cluster is to push on the headlight switch. Suspect a bad connection, possibly corrosion. Other than that, she's a dream. Even drove it from PA to FL and back last summer to tow grandson's car down.
I had a 1999 Sierra 1500. Put 182,000 miles on it. Only problem I had was the fuel pressure regulator. Shortly after the second fuel pressure regulator went bad, the pump in the fuel tank went bad. That was at 77,000 miles. After that it was nothing but maintenance. I miss that truck!!
My 2004 Sierra 2500HD has had major cab water leaking issues. The main areas were 3rd brake light, rear window seal, rear cab vent, door weather stripping (this was a major leak) and rubber grommet for the parking brake cable thru the floor pan. Also, the oil pan leaked oil. An excellent running truck though.
I have an 05 GMC 1500 I've had to replace the rear Shackles on both sides I've had to replace transmission which I find out is common for this truck but the transmission last until 250 2000 miles so it did a long time before it had issues
I have a 2000 GMC Sierra and love it. It's only got 179,000KM on it and the only problem I've had is that two part steering column rattling. Had it replaced but I think the replacement is starting to go so.........
Have had wheel bearings and impact sensor go. Ripped seat, bad exhaust manifold gaskets and bolts (4/12 broken, 1 flush with head) instrument cluster went bad but got it rebuilt.
God Bless you all! All glory to God! Repent and live for God! Romans 10:9 “if you declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God rose Him from the dead you will be saved.”
I just bought a used 2006 GMC Sierra 1500, I am getting the air bag issue and will address it. My question is about an issue with on the initial start it usually takes longer than it should for the motor to turn over and when I do crank the engine the driver side door mirror glass clicks a few times then goes away after about 30 seconds or so! Once I find out whats causing these issues I will go and get the replacement parts. Thank you!
I got one! GMC 2001 Sierra 1500HD with 300,000 Plus miles. I like my truck! I try to keep everything working. I got an Instrument Panel Problem. I can't see the transmission positions on the display! Why??? What's the fix for this??
A1 please help. I have a 02 gmc yukon xl 1500. Problem is the PRND321. Last weekend I was in the mountains and it started doing this. I shift to nearly and it's in neutral but the N won't light up which when I was in 4L and went to 4H it wouldn't do it because the N wouldn't illuminate. Same happens when putting it in park. It goes to park but doors won't unlock. It's not a constant thing but just comes and goes. Any ideas? Thanks
early models like my 01. My 5.3L had an unexplained coolant leak. I tried to figure it out for 3 years! Finally, after a mechanic discovered a GM bulletin for leaking heads, this explains where the coolant is going. They're heads used by a certain manufacturer. (can't remember who right now) The only fix is to replace the heads which is $3000 parts and labor. Why no recall from GM on this is beyond me! Also, I recently replaced my dash. The replacement came apparently from an 02-04. The hole where the ambient sensor is by the windshield is BIGGER on these dashes. A 2 prong, 16.3mm. The early ones are 8.3mm. You will need a new sensor that fits in that bigger hole. The GM part # is 22724772. But good luck finding it. I think I recently bought the last one on amazon or anywhere else!
We got a 2005 at my brother's gmc long bed 🛌 and its apparently having electric power issues not the battery tho I think uts ground wire or sensors that either need replacement or its the fuse box wall or something may have gotten wet underneath the vehicle 🤔 not sure but I love the balance and the way he explained this video ill continue to to listen to you tube clips and he made sence more then the rest of them 😀 😉 thanks brotha anyone have any other ideas of what happened to our truck and why its flickers the lights but doesn't wanna crank and uts a 2005 gmc white long bed 😉
Have a 2001 Sierra. Have had to replace both front hubs, driver side twice. On the 3rd fuel pump as well. Cannot complain for 190,000 hard miles though
Not that anyone will ever read this but mine is an 01 with 390,000 miles. My only problem is the abs. Thats it. Still runs great. 5.3 and still gets 19mpg.
In tank electric fuel pump. Cut a access panel above tank . Front axel fwd motor. Evap issues Trans issue 2-3 piston fail. Otherwise excellent reliable cheap to fix truck. I have over 275k on a few work trucks. Best trucks I ever had.
Had the previous owner put the wrong headlight bulbs in, they wiggled free and melted the housing in half. Thank god it didn’t catch fire. Damn automatic headlights
Bought my 2001 GMC C3 in 2003 and most of its life the ABS and Brake light has been on, also the Fuel level gauge has not worked properly in years, Lifter noise since 2003 at least (I used to be on the piston slap forum many years ago)
My 2000 needs everything lol Already replaced the both wheel hubs, fuel pump, and water pump…serpentine belt, and idler. Front and back windows Swapped the ac actuator. Needs ac compressor, ac belt and idler. Maybe the switch panel too🤷🏻♂️ also needs front trans Now my rear diffe blew a few days back, gota order the whole kit and needa replace the “U-joint”🤦🏻♂️ Someone come n buy it🤦🏻♂️
I have a 2001 Sierra and the only issue I'm having is from a dead stop occasionally you get a clank or a slight hiccup when applying gas pressure with a small knock sound also when starting cold there's a tiny bit of piston slap which goes away after about 20 seconds of the engine running
Catalytic converters, fuel pump, steering pump, water pump, radiator (without cap or drain), rear park brake nightmares, all door handles inner, outer, tailgate, fuel injector spider, distributor , front wheel bearings (no grease zerks), oil pressure sender, broken wires and poor grounds - truck has never been driven hard and has less that 130000 miles - on the plus side it is a very nice smooth driving truck, very easy on gas and tires Oh ya and the spare tire is in a tomb, by the time you need it, you’ll never get it out of the mess of rusty cables - also stereo has failed twice and speakers
2000 sierra 2x4 sle Bad map, drive shaft carrier bearing, front wheel bearing, cd player, fuel level sender, shocks, rear leaf springs, diff lock, parking break pads, door seals, fuel pressure regulator, bought it for $50. Still love my 20 year old GMC.
4wd push-button switch, hazard light switch stuck in either position, saggy body mounts that cost a fortune to replace & of course door hinges that have oval holes where you install new bushings, tip; keep some of the old brass bushing, cut a pie shaped piece out of the old one & shim the new bushing by placing a piece of the old one towards the front of cab.
My 05 has hit the other common issues. The rockers rotted and replaced, The guage motors go bad, the transmission went, the encoder motor, wheel bearings, brakelines, the window switch module, steering shaft You name it, its probably been replaced.
Needs to have the instrument cluster removed and the PCB board resoldered. I had to do it on my '06 Sierra. I bought the proper soldering station, the right rosen flux, etc. I think just about every Chevy/GMC truck has this problem
2005 GMC Sierra 1500 4WD 4 door, noise when foot is on the accelerator (load on the drivetrain) starting at 25mph to about 70ish mph. ONLY makes what I would call a cavitation noise when I touch the accelerator or when the truck is coasting down thru the gears. Wheel bearings still??
So my truck is an 05 sierra. 4x4 5.3L Check engine light is on. My smog check guy as well as my snap on ethos diagnostics tool says it has a vacuums leak. My smog guy said change the intake manifold gaskets. I did that. Same problem. I know it’s a very simple fix. What should I check next? Thanks, John
01 yukon xl 1500. 436,339. Both fromt bearing hubs. Two fuel pump, one transfer Case. Upper ball joints, Lower ball joints, one complete steering link both toe rods inner and outer pitman arm, idler arm. Power steering pump. Original motor Original transmission, Original rear and front diff. Runs great but the seats are showing the miles.
Just bought a 05 siera crew cab. Had driver side light issues, changed the bulb, went out, I would wiggle the connector then would work again. I figured out the outside Blu clip was pinching the connecters and causing a short, I removed the ble clip and have all lights working like the should.
I just test drove one today and I really like it. But the PRNDL display and odometer don't light up. How to fix that? He also said the tow button doesn't work but I don't even know what that does. Any ideas on how to fix the tow button?
Thinking about buying one but the guy says he replaced the computer and every time he tries to start it it blow's a fuze??? Truck has a V6 in it. Am I taking to big a chance on ?
After I replaced the manifold gaskets and then tried to seat the fuel injectors they would not seat properly and spray gas everywhere, any help would be appreciated
my dads lucky that we live in the south . my dads 99 silverado ext truck has 240,000 miles and has no rust brake lines are so new you could clean them and still see the aluminum. only thing he has changed that was a major job was gas pump, water pump , intake and valve gaskets , 4 batteries but still has original motor and trans. obviously he has changed oil, tires reguraly. funny thing is he has no dash lights except the check engine which is for one 02 sensor and thats it no rust everything original and still runs great
same problem happened to my old blazer was a trouble shooting nightmare, now i’m looking into these if i get one i hope it doesn’t happen again, my gauge on my blazer would randomly stop working and the shift points would be fucked up
I have a 1999 serria 4.3....my problem is th😢 truck runs good.. but when you are coming to a stop the front end begins to shake really bad... I've already changed out the routers and the brakes....help me please... what do I need to do

2 wheel drive
200,000+ miles
Crank but no start.
Replaced fuel pump
Throttle body
Idle position sensor
AGR valve
Map Sensor.
I have fuel and fire.
2 weeks ago I started it, drove it out the drive way, got about half a mile down the road, when it started idling really high, then bogging out, and finally died. I got it started, but it wouldn't go over 5 mph. I got it parked, now it won't start.

Just bought one with 133,000 for 7, let’s get it
I just bought my step dad's 2006 with 160,000 miles on it. I'm so glad to see people are getting extravagant miles. Paid $3,500.
wow that’s a steal, im looking at one this weekend an 05 with 125k miles for 10k
Mines got shy of 380,000 miles on it and the fuel pumps just going out and ac clutch compressor is messed up, other than that Its chilling
I loved my 2000 GMC Sierra it had 250k and would’ve ran another 100k with proper maintenance if a certain person would’ve paid attention to there stop sign and not T boned my truck:/
But I have a 2005 now and like it.
+Br Ad Thanks for the feedback!
Yup 4 wheel drive adds a ton of issues... Glad im in California because my 2004 2500hd has only had a water pump and alternator changed in the past 4 years!
I knew it! I’m so glad I got the rwd. Let’s be real, unless you need it, you don’t need the extra wear and tear!
you missed the absolute #1 problem with these trucks up north- brake lines. they sit on top of the frame and snow and salt builds up on them and eats them away real quick. thanks for posting
+L Rad Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
When they start rusting just replace the brake lines all at once and you wont need to worry about them. It's a bit of work but it's not rocket science and it's not as expensive as you might think compared to replacing a foot or two at a time. I live in NE Ohio and drive an '04 GMC.
@@1AAuto you still didn't answer his question tho ?
This was therapeutic. I feel validated and understood.
My 2001 gmc #1 problem is brake lines. I have just recently replaced the fuel pump. Very reliable truck, I’ve owned it since 2003.
What’s wrong with your brake lines? I have an 01 and they don’t have any corrosion or anything. They look nearly perfect.
(Granted the previous owners took very good care of the truck) I don’t hardly have any rust, only superficial in limited spots.
Same here,, 2001 gmc,, all four brake lines have been replaced or spliced!
‘06 w/ 159K miles. All brake lines had to be replaced due to corrosion. Cincinnati area truck so lots of salt used on roads. Fuel lines are also on their way out due to corrosion as well.
Man i spent over $ 2000 dollars fixing my truck now 3 of the 5 i just learned about so thanks for the video.
Geez, I only paid 2500$ for my 03 Sierra.
@@vamountainman2512 southern Cali prices are crazy high right now 6k for a V6
1999 GMC Sierra 1500. I had the brake lines go and fuel lines . The biggest problem my frame rotted out at 135kmiies. I loved the truck
PROBLEMS? The BEST most long lasting trucks / era MADE....engine and trans known to easily go to 400,000 miles ...and beyond.
The last truck I ever owned was a 1997 gmc sierra 1500 and I put a 6 inch suspension lift kit on that truck and I loved it !!!! 😁😁😁😁❤❤❤❤
Brake lines especially in the rust belt
Yup I paid $350 for 4 foot of brake like and now I have another one that’s out going to cost me $1500 all the way around times like this wish I had a place to work on my own stuff
Just got my gmc truck recently 105,xxx single cab 4.7 v8 loving it
Just picked up a well used 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 4.3 V6 vortec with 403000 miles running strong 💪but needs some TLC
What did you pay?
2004 Sierra 4x4 Crew cab SLT bought with 20k miles in 2006. Replace Water pump 2 times. Replace hot/cold actuator for front vents 2 times think it was the same one. Replaced front axle seals at around 100k miles. From 20k miles to 90k miles I pulled a 6,000 lbs camper about 7 times a year for 8 years. Replaced rear axle seals around 140k miles. Now have 3 exhaust manifold stud bolts broke off. Leak on Drivers side exhaust manifold. So that's the next thing I need to get fixed. gauge
I like the truck and plan to see how many miles I can get on it.
The knock sensor in the Intake manifold is another big one
Yeah I replaced those already lol
It seems every 15,000 miles I’m replacing mine.
Yeah totally 😂
there is a kit that relocates the knock sensor to the outside of the engine block and you extend the wire harness to plug into the factory connector. 1 knock sensor on each side of the block. GOOGLE LS KNOCK SENSOR RELOCATION.
200K + miles = 2002 GMC Sierra SLT. Amazing truck (mechanically).
But I've had to replace the following since I've owned it,
Radiator
Wheel bearings
Power steering pressure hose twice (power steering pump and lines aren't built to stand -30c up in Canada)
One of the Catalytic converters (may need to change or remove the other one soon)
Transfer case half (upgraded to heavy duty aluminum from magnesium for the rear half of the case due to a solenoid that rubs a hole through the top of the inside over time).
Brake Lines Rusting out
Fuel pump
Oil pressure switch
Cluster shorts out..
The Frame rotting usually towards above the rear Dif
Yoke seal leaking on rear diff
Transfer case leaks in between the casing

Rear axles seals leaking
Frozen or rotted parking cables

Oil pick up tube O-ring. Instrument cluster gauge stepper motors & PRNDL display.
Yes
I just test drove one today and I really like it. But the PRNDL display and odometer don't light up. How to fix that? He also said the tow button doesn't work but I don't even know what that does.
Just bought a 2004 and now feel ever better about my purchase after watching this 😂
I bought one used at 40,000 miles and drove it to 120,000 before I sold it. It was a 4 wheel drive. I had to replace the front wheel bearings and the blower motor. I loved this truck! Now I have a 2018 2 wheel drive and it is also amazing!

Is this good for a used truck? With 141,791 miles for 5 grand?
Lol
I own a single cab 06 GMC 4x4 short wheel base 4.8 liter absolutely great truck, love it.
2003 5.3 4wd 128k bought new.
Steering shaft.
Alternator
O2 sensor
AC compressor
Rear brakes corrosion, not salt.
Oh well.
Same with me
Same! I haven't fixed it, I just count everytime I shift
My 99 Sierra odometer doesn’t work either 😅 wheel bearings this weekend. 280k miles
+Tammy Burchfield Thanks for the feedback!

If these are the biggest problems you are in pretty good shape.
I've got a 2005 Sierra 1500. The ONLY thing on the truck that hasn't given me problems is the transmission and the engine itself.
+WW Wilkes Jr Thanks for the feedback!
I live in Québ3c so rust is by far my greatest problem. My '05 Sierra has 318 000 kilometers on it and still going strong.
01 GMC 152,000, same plugs, wires, everything but fuel pump ! Still cruising !
An excellent running truck though.
fuel gage is a very common problem in my experience
I have an 05 GMC 1500 I've had to replace the rear Shackles on both sides I've had to replace transmission which I find out is common for this truck but the transmission last until 250 2000 miles so it did a long time before it had issues
That’s not a long time that’s just sad. Unfortunately

Thank you!

Trans issue 2-3 piston fail.
Crack open the abs module and re solder the joints....a new fuel pump will fix the gauge
I have a 04 GMC Sierra same issue, including the fuel cap, abs hard code
Front wheel bearing at 110,000 miles for me, guess i should probably replace the other side after watching this.
My 2000 needs everything lol
Already replaced the both wheel hubs, fuel pump, and water pump…serpentine belt, and idler. Front and back windows
Swapped the ac actuator.
Needs ac compressor, ac belt and idler. Maybe the switch panel too🤷🏻♂️ also needs front trans
Now my rear diffe blew a few days back, gota order the whole kit and needa replace the “U-joint”🤦🏻♂️
Someone come n buy it🤦🏻♂️
I have a 2001 Sierra and the only issue I'm having is from a dead stop occasionally you get a clank or a slight hiccup when applying gas pressure with a small knock sound also when starting cold there's a tiny bit of piston slap which goes away after about 20 seconds of the engine running
Catalytic converters are making the noise, tap the with a hammer you’ll hear the noise
Catalytic converters, fuel pump, steering pump, water pump, radiator (without cap or drain), rear park brake nightmares, all door handles inner, outer, tailgate, fuel injector spider, distributor , front wheel bearings (no grease zerks), oil pressure sender, broken wires and poor grounds - truck has never been driven hard and has less that 130000 miles - on the plus side it is a very nice smooth driving truck, very easy on gas and tires
Oh ya and the spare tire is in a tomb, by the time you need it, you’ll never get it out of the mess of rusty cables - also stereo has failed twice and speakers
2000 sierra 2x4 sle
Bad map, drive shaft carrier bearing, front wheel bearing, cd player, fuel level sender, shocks, rear leaf springs, diff lock, parking break pads, door seals, fuel pressure regulator, bought it for $50. Still love my 20 year old GMC.
Another one in the salt belt is the wheel speed sensors.
yup that happened to my 2000 Sierra recently
4wd push-button switch, hazard light switch stuck in either position, saggy body mounts that cost a fortune to replace & of course door hinges that have oval holes where you install new bushings, tip; keep some of the old brass bushing, cut a pie shaped piece out of the old one & shim the new bushing by placing a piece of the old one towards the front of cab.
I have a 99. You missed the actuator, and the 4wd module on the dash. Also go out often.
i agree i bought mine with the whole module replaced and it still changes itself randomly like going from 2hi to 4hi or neutral randomly
Just pull the TCM fuse for a few minutes and it resets. Usually no parts needed.
My 05 has hit the other common issues. The rockers rotted and replaced, The guage motors go bad, the transmission went, the encoder motor, wheel bearings, brakelines, the window switch module, steering shaft You name it, its probably been replaced.
I have a 2001 GMC Sierra SLT and have had none of those issues. However, I do have a dashboard that tends to heat up. Can we talk about that?
Needs to have the instrument cluster removed and the PCB board resoldered. I had to do it on my '06 Sierra. I bought the proper soldering station, the right rosen flux, etc. I think just about every Chevy/GMC truck has this problem
I have seen more issues on the 1999 s with the 4 wheel drive switch than then encoder, and A LOT EASIER FIX!, mine personal 99 it has gone out 2 times
You can add window regulators, gauge cluster, wiring harness that causes all kinds of gremlins.
Check engine light is on. My smog check guy as well as my snap on ethos diagnostics tool says it has a vacuums leak. My smog guy said change the intake manifold gaskets. I did that. Same problem. I know it’s a very simple fix. What should I check next? Thanks, John

what type of wheel cylinder do you use for a 2005 gmc sierra 1500 , 4x4 , do you7 use a 6000 lb or a 7000 lb ?
Wow...that video was quick. Nothing to see here folks. GMT-800 truck. Bombproof.

After I replaced the manifold gaskets and then tried to seat the fuel injectors they would not seat properly and spray gas everywhere, any help would be appreciated
my dads lucky that we live in the south . my dads 99 silverado ext truck has 240,000 miles and has no rust brake lines are so new you could clean them and still see the aluminum. only thing he has changed that was a major job was gas pump, water pump , intake and valve gaskets , 4 batteries but still has original motor and trans. obviously he has changed oil, tires reguraly. funny thing is he has no dash lights except the check engine which is for one 02 sensor and thats it no rust everything original and still runs great
2003 gmc 2500hd had to replace fuel pump twice over the years
What about door rattle on a 99 gmc sierra. All three of my doors rattle and I got wind coming in when in the freeway
What about the infernal ticking lifter?
Not sure if it’s mentioned but these are basically the same as 99-06 silverados and the speedo tends to stop working
same problem happened to my old blazer was a trouble shooting nightmare, now i’m looking into these if i get one i hope it doesn’t happen again, my gauge on my blazer would randomly stop working and the shift points would be fucked up
Only major issues I’ve had were head gaskets and encoder motor and the impact sensor all above 300$ fixes
Just replaced both headlight relays as,lights are coming on by themselves no key in ignition.
Didn't clear problem
Q)what else can be causing this?
Hello
I have a 2003 GMC Sierra 2wd, where can I find the Ignition Module control ( not on the steering wheel) to replace it?
Thank you guys
I have a 1999 serria 4.3....my problem is th😢 truck runs good.. but when you are coming to a stop the front end begins to shake really bad... I've already changed out the routers and the brakes....help me please... what do I need to do
One gripe not mentioned is GM's use of cheap plastic latches for the glove compartment and the tailgate. Mine disintegrated.
