Best Editing went to a film that performed almost 60 horrible jump cuts in one scene. I feel bad for A Star is Born, that was a better made movie than Bohemian. Olivia Colman's speech was just incredible!
"Bohemian Rhapsody's" film editing win was for the Live Aid scene and for the editor having to salvage the movie after the Bryan Singer mess. The Oscar win might not have been deserved, but it wasn't a total surprise, since the movie won the Drama Feature prize at the ACE Eddie Awards.
I guess the logic is there, it was second favourite after all (Vice was the favourite). However, when I look back at A Star is Born's editing which to me in contrast is so much smoother and consistent (including their concerts).
Many people hated Bohemian Rhapsody but they have to respect what it is. Many people say that they skimmed over Freddie's homosexuality, which I personally did not agree with, but even so, that wasn't what the movie was supposed to be about! The film was meant to honor Freddie and Queen's legacy, which it did. The editing was amazing, especially during the concert scenes. Casting for this movie was truly remarkable and Rami Malek deserved his Oscar with every inch of his body. He did so much to prepare for the role: learned piano, learned guitar, learned his accent, studied every piece of Freddie possible, got a singing coach, worked with a movement coach, and much more. Although it is almost like a war between the critics and the viewers, I believe that this movie is so deserving and it will remain a favorite of mine forever.
I personally didn't like it, but not because it skimmed over his sexuality, or that it basically ignored his illness, but because despite being based on Freddie mwrcury, it somehow managed to be boring. It was by the numbers, the dialogue was cringey af...the only good thing to be enjoyed was the music. But that's me
Georgia Milne NO. That film is full of massive lies and is almost complete fiction. It is trash and the editing is actually some of the worst I have seen in a mainstream film, it’s so clunky and badly written
You are wise my friends. You should consider study filmmaking. It was definetely a bad choice for the Academy to make. They didnt realize that Roma had all the critics, the press, the latino community, the art community in the whole world and the liberals in the pocket. So the backlash is going to be HUGEEEE. That is the problem when they cannot see beyond and they vote for the movie they like. It Is not wise. It damage the Academy Prestige (the most important thing they have). They have to make decisions with the brain. Also I think the Academy should teach its members how to vote because if they dont they will vote for what they like and it Is harmful for the Academy itself. Great video guys!!!!
"Roma" is from Netflix, and that's what hurt its chances the most. The business model of the movie industry would be radically upended if a streaming service that doesn't report box-office numbers and doesn't work with the majority of movie theaters won an Oscar for Best Picture. It's possible that a streaming service will eventually win the Best Picture Oscar, but the movie industry still relies heavily on major movie theaters for revenue, and Netflix doesn't work with major movie theaters.
The preferential ballot needs to be dumped. Too many times now the 2nd or 3rd or even 4th film is winning to top honour. Either go back to first past the post(most number one's) or they need to weight the preferential ballot to give the number one choice more credence/points than just one more point than 2nd. We're just getting the likeable but meh winning. I might also have just the branches all vote for their category rather than everyone voting in every category i.e the sound mixing/editing fiasco. Expanding the membership does not always ensure the quality of choices gets better.
If "Roma" was from a traditional studio, not a streaming service, it would've had a better chance of winning. A lot of Oscar voters have a problem with how Netflix handles theatrical releases, and they still think of Netflix as a content studio that caters to the small-screen experience, so don't under-estimate Oscar voters' mistrust of Netflix. Also don't under-estimate that "Roma" is a foreign-language film. Almost all Best Picture winners are about Americans or British people.
I love your reaction to Olivia Coleman winning Best Actress 🤣🤣 I felt the same way when i did not hear Glen Close either!! But, when you listen to Colemans' speech she makes you feel happy that someone so genuine, & was as shocked as, im sure the rest of the world was, won. Now with that said CLOSE WAS ROBBED 😫😫😫
I was going for Roma for Best Picture too. But I did a quick minute change and went with Green Book. Why? The Academy does this thing called preferential balloting. Changes the whole ball game.
Haha love the reactions... Had some nice $$$ wins too: Green Book 15-1 (November) Colman 5-1 First Man - Visual Effects 4-1 Black Panther - Original Score 3-1 Bohemian - Sound Editing 4-1 Ali 1-1 (November)
at this point i’m just watching this video again to feel something (something being anger and sadness and frustration that green book beat one of the greatest artsy movies of the decade)

Dudes you should have known when Roma won best foreign language film it wasn't going to win. That's usually the consolation prize for foreign films nominated in the Best Picture category.
Seeing the of the video, I am with you. I have predictions for every category that can be predicted at this point for next year. I have a couple wildcards in my Best Picture predictions, but I made a list of all the possibilities and just picked several of the most likely candidates and a few wildcards that have a chance just based on a gut feeling. When do you think that video of 2020 predictions will be up out of curiosity?
This season I tried to see the foreign films before the English speaking, I can say that the 5 could have been nominated for best film, I think the final decision is that the academy would be forced to next year maybe remove the category of foreign film and nominate 3 or 4 to Best Picture, big change and would almost become something like Cannes, for me would have been great, plus it would probably be the only thing that Netflix would expect to invest in their own theaters.
Ranking the best picture nominees 08. Vice B+ 8/10 07. Bohemian Rhapsody B+ 8/10 06. Green book -A 9/10 05. The Favorite A 9/10 04. Black Panther A+ 9/10 03. Roma A+ 9/10 02. A Star is born A+ 9/10 01. Blackkklansman S 10/10
Your reactions to the Best Actress Award is everything!! I’ve watched it multiple times. By the way, please don’t ever compare Green Book to Crash again. Crash was a wreck. Haha
Still thinking Roma was inexplicably overhyped that year. Not even the best movie in the International category imho. The Favourite should've been the film to beat that night.
I think Green Book won for some reasons: 1. It's a good safe choice 2. It shows racism is in the past and make some white people feel like they're not racist. 3. Black Panther and BlacKkKlansman had no chance of winning. 4. Roma already won Best Foreign Film and (of course) Academy wasn't going to give Best Picrude to a Netflix movie 5. A Star Is Born is great but had some flaws 6. Bohemian Rhapsody is good but has some really ridiculous moments. 7. Vice and the Favourite was interesting but they aren't politically and socially-favored so they weren't going to win. (I think some people hate it that it won because they didn't see the movie)
Out of all these nominees, Black Panther is the most memorable. But unfortunately the most memorable movies (other than The Departed) never win Best Picture
5:57 Whooa!!! You guys thought infinity war might win, but no (well yeah to this day, I still think infinity war should’ve won the Oscar) first Mann won the Oscar.
Bohemian Rhapsody won big and rightfully so if you ask me. Although it didnt deserve sound editing or editing (lol), it did deserve at least a few awards. I know the movie gets a lot of hate from critics and ''movie nerds'' because of things like the story not being 100% true, because we didnt learn new ''spicy'' details about freddie mercury's life or because the movie didn't have much of a character arc for any of the characters. But people have to remember that its first and foremost a hollywood movie, not a documentary. The story isn't 100% accurate, but it makes the movie more exciting. We don't learn any new details about freddie mercury, but that's a good thing. This movie is more about honoring the memory of freddie and showing the rise of Queen. Freddie was a very private man and we have to respect that. Brian and Roger certainly did. The movie is a biopic about Queen which, while taking a few liberties when it comes to the story, still stays true to Queen and what Queen were. The movie is extremely entertaining and very rewatchable aswell which is definitely a plus. I haven't even mentioned the extraordinary casting for the movie (they even got young Brian May to play Brian May) and Rami Malek's AMAZING performance as Freddie Mercury. He nailed it and definitely deserved best actor. I wasn't a Queen fan going into the movie, but I am now.
I honestly just thought the movie was ok. I just thought it was so cliche, like when he coughed blood into the napkin I laughed. Now Rocketman, THAT I am excited for!
I was also pissed off with the sound editing winner. But I went beyond pissed off with Olivia and Green Book winning. It’s just so unfair. However I enjoyed this year’s show better than last year’s
2011 was kind of a weak year (in terms of what was actually nominated Best Picture) so no one would remember whatever would have won if The Artist hadn't.
Hey guys. I knew The Favourite wasn't going to do good at the Oscars. Olivia Colman's win was a surprise but I'm happy she won and I was happy for Green Book. A lot of people have underestimate Green Book, Bohemian Rhapsody and Black Panther. You guys sure SWEAR a lot
How come films that win sound mixing/editing are always favourites to win film editing? At @4:25 they say Bohemian won sound editing therefore are likely for picture editing
I think people have green book all wrong.. it is a feel good movie that everybody likes, the controversy is so silly its not even worth mentioning. The people who have problems with Green Book would have problems with every movie. I think you have to try to dislike Green Book. it is a movie with zero political leaning and is about a friendship, nothing else. I think it will age well

However, when I look back at A Star is Born's editing which to me in contrast is so much smoother and consistent (including their concerts).
i think i went back and replayed your reactions to olivia colman winning like a thousand times lmao
But that's me
Rami's portrayal was caricaturish and inconsistent... The actual best actor last year (Ethan Hawke) wasn't even nominated...
Georgia Milne NO. That film is full of massive lies and is almost complete fiction. It is trash and the editing is actually some of the worst I have seen in a mainstream film, it’s so clunky and badly written
Spike lee Trying to walk out of the oscars.
The ref mad a bad call
@@popcultureexpert2790 3 years later and CODA is the first streamed film to win
I was shocked with Oliva, I feel so bad for Glenn.
9:22 everyone's reaction when they said Olivias name! she is awesome though
« We’re gonna top off the night with green ass book » is one of the best thing i heard in a long time 😂😂
I was going for Roma for Best Picture too. But I did a quick minute change and went with Green Book. Why? The Academy does this thing called preferential balloting. Changes the whole ball game.
Very true, if a film seems as likely to be a person's 1 or 2 as it is their 9 or 10, then you have to question if it'll survive
Haha love the reactions... Had some nice $$$ wins too:
Green Book 15-1 (November)
Colman 5-1
First Man - Visual Effects 4-1
Black Panther - Original Score 3-1
Bohemian - Sound Editing 4-1
Ali 1-1 (November)
Also called Green Book winning if it got Original Screenplay... I was very happy with the result though... Much preferred the film haha
at this point i’m just watching this video again to feel something (something being anger and sadness and frustration that green book beat one of the greatest artsy movies of the decade)
guys please upload more movie reviews and lists not only about award shows I love watching your videos and I agree with a lot of your opinions about movies
I was freaking out when I heard Olivias Name😍😍😂
i had the SAME reaction for best actress
9:23 This part XD OH MAII GOOOD
I was shocked too when Green book won!
I loved the "WHAT are YOU DOING?" lmao
“green ass book” i’m yelling
Dudes you should have known when Roma won best foreign language film it wasn't going to win. That's usually the consolation prize for foreign films nominated in the Best Picture category.
Seeing the of the video, I am with you. I have predictions for every category that can be predicted at this point for next year. I have a couple wildcards in my Best Picture predictions, but I made a list of all the possibilities and just picked several of the most likely candidates and a few wildcards that have a chance just based on a gut feeling. When do you think that video of 2020 predictions will be up out of curiosity?
I wish i had someone in my real life to share my love of movies as this two!📽🎞📺
I love you guys so much
This season I tried to see the foreign films before the English speaking, I can say that the 5 could have been nominated for best film, I think the final decision is that the academy would be forced to next year maybe remove the category of foreign film and nominate 3 or 4 to Best Picture, big change and would almost become something like Cannes, for me would have been great, plus it would probably be the only thing that Netflix would expect to invest in their own theaters.
Their reaction when Olivia Coleman won was my reaction lol
Ranking the best picture nominees
08. Vice B+ 8/10
07. Bohemian Rhapsody B+ 8/10
06. Green book -A 9/10
05. The Favorite A 9/10
04. Black Panther A+ 9/10
03. Roma A+ 9/10
02. A Star is born A+ 9/10
01. Blackkklansman S 10/10
Absolutely no one is still watching Green Book.
Your reactions to the Best Actress Award is everything!!
I’ve watched it multiple times.
By the way, please don’t ever compare Green Book to Crash again.
Crash was a wreck. Haha
12:26 LMAO. That was my reaction.
We had the same reaction with Olivia winning lol
I loved this seasson with you!! Of course i will keep watching
Still thinking Roma was inexplicably overhyped that year. Not even the best movie in the International category imho. The Favourite should've been the film to beat that night.
Green Book - Roma is identical to Coda - The Power of the Dog last year
I really thought Rachel weisz should have won the oscar for supporting actress tbh :/ she was brilliant
I think Green Book won for some reasons:
1. It's a good safe choice
2. It shows racism is in the past and make some white people feel like they're not racist.
3. Black Panther and BlacKkKlansman had no chance of winning.
4. Roma already won Best Foreign Film and (of course) Academy wasn't going to give Best Picrude to a Netflix movie
5. A Star Is Born is great but had some flaws
6. Bohemian Rhapsody is good but has some really ridiculous moments.
7. Vice and the Favourite was interesting but they aren't politically and socially-favored so they weren't going to win.
(I think some people hate it that it won because they didn't see the movie)
Olivia is so deserved
Glenn is gonna win for sunset blvd
hopefully
Driving Miss Daisy part 2. My reactions exactly!!!
I agreed with you. This is conversational.
Anyone else rewatching these videos in 2020 because they miss awards season? Or is it just me 😣
Just you
Green Book WILL last in my DVD shelf.
Out of all these nominees, Black Panther is the most memorable. But unfortunately the most memorable movies (other than The Departed) never win Best Picture
Most memorable for you, you mean hahaha
Hahaha I like that the short film Live Action presenters were clearly glad it wasn’t Detainment 😂😂
5:57 Whooa!!! You guys thought infinity war might win, but no (well yeah to this day, I still think infinity war should’ve won the Oscar) first Mann won the Oscar.
Well this was entertaining. Your reactions were brilliant.

Two years later
The meme of the Oscar expert centuries.
#Oscars2019 #OscarExpert
Also you kind of sound condescending
exactly.
It deserved nothing.
Jᴀᴄᴋᴇʀᴄᴏ I completely agree. I loved the movie
I was also pissed off with the sound editing winner. But I went beyond pissed off with Olivia and Green Book winning. It’s just so unfair. However I enjoyed this year’s show better than last year’s
2011 was kind of a weak year (in terms of what was actually nominated Best Picture) so no one would remember whatever would have won if The Artist hadn't.
unless Seperation would have won
I'm partial to Moneyball, I think that would've been a memorable winner.
@@tendrugimichal A Separation wasn't nominated. I'm talking about what was actually nominated.
Tree of Life should've swept
I don't even watch the Oscars and yet here I am!
Watching this in preparation for this year. Where/how did you bet money on the Oscars?
Nice to see Anakin Skywalker reacting to Oscars instead of slaughtering the children.
I’m literally pissed that infinity war didn’t win for vfx instead of first man
Hey guys. I knew The Favourite wasn't going to do good at the Oscars. Olivia Colman's win was a surprise but I'm happy she won and I was happy for Green Book. A lot of people have underestimate Green Book, Bohemian Rhapsody and Black Panther.
You guys sure SWEAR a lot
omg I LOVE THIS
I'll miss you guys now that awards season is over 😔. Back into hibernation we go.......... Until the End game 😉
Love this year. I made a LOT money on Visual Effects and Best Picture.
How come films that win sound mixing/editing are always favourites to win film editing? At @4:25 they say Bohemian won sound editing therefore are likely for picture editing
You guys have the best reactions 🤣
Cole: *Raging over Bohemian Rhapsody winning Sound Editing and going on a rant*
Brother Bro: COLE COLE…. I GET CASH 😃
Literally my exact reactions all night 😂👏👏
If bohemian rhapsody’s editing reminds me of videos and editing I made in high school audio visual class, then something is wrong
I think it will age well
Also, _Green Book_ won several of the precursor awards it needed to foretell its Best Picture Oscar win.
I NEED A SUPERCUT LOL
I’ll make one don’t worry
Predicting "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" to win best pic and finally give Tarantino that award for best pic and best director. You heard it here first folks.
You were so so wrong lol 😆
@@lilchaos4792 lol I just really liked OUATIH. But on my ballot I had Roma but still wrong lol
i'm dead at the last 2 minutes of rambling you guys would cringe so hard at these videos now🤣
