Thing is, about 4-5 movies nominated this year would have been perfect to win Best Picture. It was just a really good selection of films to choose from. Last year was trash. Blackkklansman, Vice and Black Panther shouldn't have even touched the Best Picture category. Every film nominated this year was better than most of the nominees from last year.

I loved how Bong showed gratitude to Martin and Quentin and not just talking how good himself is, for me it was the highlight of the night
Some winners praise the competition but It doesn't feel genuine, but with him It did.

In my personal opinion, I have been watching korean dramas and movies, since 2007. I know Korea has better movies that many foreigners have not discovered yet. The main reason why I'm so excited is not by the movie itself but because finally korean entertainment world is achieving international recognition this will open many doors not only for the director Bong and all the actors involved but also for more korean movies and korean actors and directors. This is just the beginning for something bigger for Korea. That is the reason why I'm so happy and proud even as a foreigner. :)
i think it’s because in the west, the Oscars are the most well known award for any art form and they’re known as the hardest award to get. the Oscar for best picture is probably the most prestigious award westerners can imagine it, and for decades we’re used to winners being very similar, so to see a foreign language movie win with a foreign cast and an anti-capitalist message is just astonishing, i never thought something like this could happen in our lifetime.
My girlfriend is Korean and she was quietly shocked the whole time. She kept laughing talking about how she always just saw Bong as a good local director. Meanwhile, my white Canadian ass had tears in my eyes and arms in the air!
I'm just gonna say it. Parasite is one of the greatest Best Picture winners of all time!
And the first pick to actually be the best picture since Moonlight.

@@travisspazz1624 Besides not seeing the effect of all the events on the Park family and what happened with Kevin's friend Min, the ending was great. Didn't feel rushed and those small details don't define the movie overall anyway, although it would be nice to see that added.

It won one of the toughest years in Oscar history. 1917, Joker Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Marriage Story and the Irishman all deserve Best Picture. Ford v Ferrari, Little Women and Jojo Rabbit were also fantastic films. Parasite beating all of these films was remarkable. Any other year and it would have probably swept more awards like Cinematography and Production Design.
Happy for you guys! It was a refreshing movie. I think it’s a movie that can send a message to everyone around the world. Plus it’s super entertaining and the dialogue is witty and engaging as well

Bong winning was an on par surprise of “Moonlight.” I have never witnessed a loss like Sam Mendes especially after DGA. Well deserved, “Parasite”!

Closest is in 2000, where Ang Lee won the exact same 3 prizes as Sam Mendes (Globes, DGA, and BAFTA) but for CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON and ended up losing the Oscar to the Critics Choice winner (which that year was Steven Soderbergh for TRAFFIC). Soderbergh was particularly shocking given that he was a double nominee that year and many thought he would split votes with himself.
When I watched Bong Joon Ho win best director, my first thought was how high would your legs go and I was not disappointed at 9:50

My favorite part when watching the oscars was when parasite was in the list of nominations the crowd went wild. You could just tell it was a loved film and rightly so.
(Edited) First, Parasite is the third to win Cannes and Oscar, there was Marty in 1956 and The Lost Weekend ten years earlier. Ford V Ferrari had more complexity in terms of different sounds. 1917 had more effectiveness with building the tension with mixing the actors' sounds (while running or breathing strongly), the scenario and the score. I saw it coming. BUT PARASITE'S SWEEP?? I LOVED IT.
And 'The Lost Weekend' 1946.

@PubFilm He's correct. Also, The Lost Weekend won the Award prior when it was called Grand Prix, but it's essentially the same award. The name bounced back and forth between Grand Prix and Palme d'Or a couple times.
