Starting from Palme d’Or at the Cannes film festival, “Parasite” won Golden Globe’s best international film, and finally it swept 4 Oscars on Feb. 9th.
Since it’s the first time in history that foreign film won 4 Oscars including Best Picture, this news not only astonished the world, but also it validated Korean movie industry’s possibility. So I went out to Gangnam to find out what Koreans thought on Parasite's Oscar winning.

The movie deserves all the awards. It’s a fantastic movie.
It's sad that when they talk about parasite, they only talked about how they have got oscar awards but never mention that they have won palm d'or too, which is the most prestigious awards for film maker.
They're both prestigious. Parasite is the only film since the first festival to have won both the Palme d’Or And Best Picture
@@luf4rall oscars have a tendency to be either kitsch or political .. the Cannes awards are a better signifier of cinematic greatness
Because Oscars is much more commercialized and is famous among the general populace.
@@fergalhughes165 that's right, so it is really bothered me that people and media only mention oscar as the achievement of parasite.
@@gbt2009 and the general populace is much more likely to seek out the movie when they hear it has won the Oscar.
this movie was amazing and it deserves ALL the awards
All the people interviewed were in tune with all the little nuances in the movie. The metaphors that carried a specific message. Even the young people knew. I'm very impressed. 👍
Indeed it majestically conquered the one-inch-tall barrier of subtitles. Hoping there will be more of that in the following years 💪💪 Great to hear what Koreans have to say about the film and all! Thanks, Sumi and Korea Now!
I’ve been watching Korean dramas and movies for years. I watch 6 to 8 hours of Korean shows every day. I have even learned a lot of Korean language just from all the time spent watching it. I’m glad the rest of the country is finally seeing what I have always seen. 🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷
3:25 "Even though he is not that handsome" - coming from the South Korean Brad Pitt
lmao right.. not sure why people feel the need to comment on other's appearances when they aren't even the best looking
“South Korean Brad Pitt” made me lose it 😂😂😂
@@power5650 it is not okay to talk about appearance even if u handsome
Well, since there are too many Korean Brad Pitt in Seoul's streets, Mr. Bong's face become one of a kind. Right? 😉
@@power5650 Bc SK has a very lookism based society. Thats why media is so toxic there bc everyone gets criticized for their looks, even when the people behind the screen aren't so good looking either
1:47 I'm glad that the guy pointed that out! It's the finest details that make the movie so haunting yet special!
Peach scene is best scene of decade in Cinema world 🍑
Thanks for this video. I saw Parasite last week and enjoyed it. I didn't know he also made Okja and Snowpiercer, which I had also enjoyed. Good on him! Nice to hear what fellow Koreans thought.
A black and white version?! I NEED to watch it!
I felt so proud when they won 4 oscars.
And I'm not even korean lel.
P.S.- still wondering wht did Jessica did to the kid to make him so calm and obedient🤣🤣🤣
#lovefromindia
I think Ki-jung showed the boy affection, and let him paint what he wanted and felt. His previous art teachers probably didn't last because they were indoctrinated, and tried to make him conform to their styles. Ki-jung's lack of teacher education worked in her favor. Plus, in one scene, she had him sitting in her lap as he painted. He probably didn't get that sort of affection from his parents or sister.
@2freeIvX are u korean??
01:47 random guy gives you essay like scene analsysis.
3:26 he is pretty charming though? Just because he doesn’t fit Korean beauty standards doesn’t mean he’s not smh
pinetree He acts like he’s good looking when he looks extremely average 😂
Mini Fox “even though he is not very handsome, he looks cool” cool =/= charming wym? He still said that he’s not very handsome and to that I disagree?
@@346ego talk about nitpicking
The best film by far of last year but also one of the best South Korean film ever made congratulations Bong Joon-Ho
Darcy Paquet who wrote all the English subtitles came up with a clever solution for jjapaguri. Ramdon, ramen + udon. Eat Ramdon and listen to "Rama Lama Ding Dong" (the Edsels) 😋 Why is he not being mentioned these days as he was after the Cannes?
Thanks, Korea! You've given so many great films to the world!!!
Definitely an excellent film! Congrats from US.
I am not even Korean but I feel so happy because Korea is my favourite country
This film hits home here in America and the World over because it has a Universal Theme. It is a very powerful movie that many will understand but will not want to "see". I am an American who enjoys great movies and this is one Hell of a great movie. I saw his Snowpiercer. He is a Mastercraftsmen.
Brilliant movie, brilliant director. Best movie of the century! Also I learned so much about Korea from this movie.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was a foreign film and it won FOUR Academy Awards (but not Best Picture) at the 2000 Academy Awards! If you recall, it was a Chinese movie with a Chinese director (but he lived in the U.S.A. I think).
Just finished Bong's other work, and i have to say He is Amay Director. Mother (Madeo) is another masterpiece by Bong
guy on the right talking 3:33 👀why so handsome! 😍
The themes were absolutely universal, transcending borders and generations. I'm a half-Thai, half-American kid born on 8-Mile road outside of Detroit, and raised in a town of 1000 mostly-white folks, and I totally understood them. I taught and lived in Gwangju City in the southwestern part of Korea, and I saw the wealth and class disparities first-hand. I taught kids from wealth and the working class families, and ate and drank with CEOs, university students, and blue-collar workers.
A movie like this is a rarity! 💥😁💚✌️
Funny, in many interviews it is stated that "semi-basement" is only existing in Korea and that there is not even a word for it in other languages. You have this way of apartments in buildings all over Europe, it is called "Souterrain" in many European languages.
Korean people are very attractive. I need to watch more korean movies
the use of juxtaposition in this movie was often times brilliant and perhaps second to none...
3:34 the one on the left is handsome
i know right. anybody know his name 😜
I hope they stream the b&w ver....
great movie i enjoyed every min:))
BLACK AND WHITE VERSION?!?!? Shit I'm down to watch the movie again in black and white
🤷🏻♂️What does Japan
Thinks of Korea’s brilliant
Innovation; “The Ram/Don”!!!
*#JJAPAGURI*
they must be thrilled.
Now all we Koreans memorized that Chicago is in Illinois.

1:12 I think this guy hit the nail on the head with why it connects so much with American audiences.
Gangnam Style !
I wanted to watch the movie. But where?
I've seen alot of good reviews about it so I got curious.
Where are you from?..

why are they all so smart??? Is this outside a film school?? And all of them have their outfits on point 😭💕
Whats the reason for the black and white version?!? Lmao it doesn’t matter I MUST SEE IT 😭🙏🏻
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Discussing class struggles with people in Gangnam. Lol
1:22, baby you are so fucking handsome.
Jissicaaaaa and her brother so cuuute ! They are so great actors like real brothers ! But i ship them too hahahaahhahaaaa they so handsome together
Why would anyone watch black and white version film when there is already a color version?
Am still not surprised that Korean society still has standards when it comes to beauty (handsome/pretty)...especially when one of them said that "eventhough Bong Joon Ho is not that handsome" etc...I mean get over this stuff already
I'm dead even tho he's not handsome
Bro : there is a mirror for u
Edits: I'm dead 🤣🤣
The father actor was snubbed imo
