Parasite: “A humor without clowns. A tragedy without villains.”

As someone who used to live in the basement of someone else's house for years, I can confidently say that the class dichotomy represented in this film is not exaggerated in the slightest.

In an interview, Bong Jun-Ho said "a comedy without any clowns, a tragedy without villains" and I think it summed it up so much. It's odd but this has to be the one film that has surprised me constantly. Like I couldn't figure out what was happening next and I think that's really hard in today's times where we're constantly shown media

I think most people saw the parasitic actions of the lower class, but missed the fact that the upper class also leeches off the hard and demeaning work of the lower classes.

From an American working in the film industry, I thought this movie was brilliant. I loved Bong Joon-Ho's film, 'Snowpiercer', and it's critique on classism / capitalism. I think this film is a much more refined version of the same theme, and so well articulated. The dark comedy is perfect, and the cinematography is beautiful, and you get so attached to the characters. It's a harsh and raw look at a universal reality with how perspective shapes people's perception of classism, and how the elite of society are so disassociated with reality. Too much money makes you live in a bubble, versus living in squalor, you're fighting each other at the bottom for scraps in hopes of one day achieving the same luxuries as a wealthy person. I love how this film also makes you question, who is really the "bad guy", what does money do to people, what makes a person kind, and who is actually "rich"? I have so many good things to say about this film, but I'll stop here. It's just such a well-told story.

they say that these class divisions are exaggerated when there are people in korea literally living in these types of situations?? i guess that's the irony of the film.. the privileged not recognizing poverty

“It helped me change my perception of class.” THIS is why the movie is so good. If art doesn’t move you to confront your prejudices, then what’s the point?

I don't think I've seen a Korean movie before Parasite. I went on to binge the director's other movies afterwards lol. It's that good, and so are his other movies.

I would be interested in getting to hear from people out in the 시골 (countryside) about what they think of the wealth gap, social stratification, etc.

I watched this movie. It was excellent. I got unfamiliar chills in some scene. Not scary but just weird chills that I never got from another movie. And it has a lot of twist too. Very recommended

It's been released in France since May and I can assure you there are still people going to watch it even if we are now in November! I watched it with my friends and we were so surprised to see such a diverse range of people going to watch it (not your usual teenager who loves kpop only) there was even a couple of about 70yo.

Y'all need to do one on what S. Koreans think of all these young celebrity suicides and the accompanying issues like obsessive, sociopathic netizens who make a hobby of leaving evil messages.

The class distinction and the way the families lived and treated each other is accurate; the low class family infiltrating is the exaggeration.
