She isn’t "grown-up" or "mature" here; she is completely and utterly broken. She has been shattered into a million pieces and is desperately trying to not show it by being what everyone always wanted her to be instead of the beautiful person she already was. These scenes broke my heart
The depth of her despair is she had a major mental breakdown almost to the point of death. That is why her family was walking on eggshells around her. She was too immature to realize that her fiance have been experiencing a mental disturbance since he was six years old when he witness his uncle murder his father, and also the massacre of his parents, cousin and the people of his city. They were both young and both had mental issues. They loved each other, but did not know how to solve their problems.
The ironic thing is that the people, namely her mother, who wanted her to behave in that manner now want her back to her real self. Only now, they realize the beauty of her authentic self.
She is growing up. All of that despair and everything, it's a sign of maturity and understanding the environment of what is happening. It shows that she is aware and have a level of understanding.
I just love this scenes so much. The parallel between Shaoshang walking away from her 2 tragedies: her mother's awful treatment and her fiancee's abandonment.
The fact that to her parents take Niao Niao's brokenness as maturity instead of realising just how much pain she's in to the point she's literally had to shut most of her emotions down just to function is heartbreaking; they really see so little of who she is that they make terrible assumptions based on what they want from her. And the aid saying she's 'grown up' when she's completely shut down and shows no personality or feelings is both a disturbing commentary on how they wanted women to be in order to be cared for by their families back then (and now unfortunately) and just how actively oblivious and lacking in empathy they are. Honestly the conversation between the two women is just dark comedy at it's finest. Grown up? Are you really so stupid as to believe that in order for someone to be mature/grow-up they must be essentially dead inside? Even her dad that barely knows her and her brothers who know her slightly less but always treat her with love can see it, so why are the other woman so completely dense? And saying 'We can't stay by their side forever.' to a mother who has only been a part of her daughters life for all of, what, 6 months at this point? After *15 years* of letting Niao Niao walk her 'own path in the future' raised by toxic women and then coming back to constantly belittle and berate who she became to survive the people you left to raise her? Like I said, comedy gold from these two actively oblivious women! Also the mother wanting her to be modest and composed when she herself is anything but is laughable; she wants a daughter like Yang Yang but got a daughter as tough is she is, even after being abandoned by her for her entire 15 *years* and yet she's bitching about it? Headcase.
"See how mature Niao Niao is now" meanwhile Niao Niao: severely emotionally and psychologically exhausted. I know her father only means well, but it's not uncommon for people to mistake depression and emotional drain as maturity. especially parents. like if Niao Niao's mother hadn't changed, she would have praised this behaviour from Niao Niao.
Her 2nd brother thinking she's fine when her twin knows different. She should have been crying, angry or breaking things. Her reading silently was scary from him to see. That's why she sent him to send off Zisheng, as he would know what to say on her behalf without getting too angry (other brother or father). And her Mother realizing the spirit that she was trying so hard to tame was finally broken, and how wrong she was...
He treated her like a soldier; her mother treated her like a soldier and they both betrayed her while she stayed dedicated, respectful, loyal and filial until together they broke her spirit and numbed her soul. The emptiness in her during this scene is scorching: even her tone of voice and facial expressions are flat and lack affect. She is deeply broken, but unlike those who have abused her heart and betrayed her, she remains true to herself and is going to the only true 'hearth, home and heart' she has ever truly felt: the Empress. She told him at the onset, she would never forgive betrayal: and unlike him, she's true to herself and a woman of her words. Waiting for 6 hours for her to show up was foolhardy on his part: she was a strong, willful, determined woman and if she had anything left to say to him, she wouldn't have been cruel about it making him wait 6 hours to say it: she would have faced it head on, said it outright, walked away and let him march into exile. Keeping his command standing for 6 hours at "Attention" in the hot sun for his own selfish purposes yet again proves her point that while he boasts about being a good leader, he is insensitive to the needs of others because his own needs and wants cloud his vision. Just because he made a decision years before that he now regrets isn't her responsibility, nor is she accountable for his choices; in her current state of mind, created by him and her horrid mother, she isn't going to waste one more second of her energy, strength, stamina, dignity or integrity on a man not worthy of her. She's not even going to bother giving him the well-deserved verbal scourging he so desperately should hear from her because she no longer cares enough to waste that energy and vitality on a deceitful, selfish, arrogantly proud man who swears love to her but holds mistresses named Pride, Ego, Revenge and Position far above her. She knows now that she loved him and her mother too long, gave them too many chances, gave them too much time and gave them far too much of herself. She loved them until they erased all sentiment she may have held for them out of her. She's hanging on to the one place and one person who has ever shown her respect, kindness, gentleness and a nurturing maternal love and it isn't either of the mighty generals. They erased her from their lives for their own purposes; now she's showing them how that feels by leaving them behind for another life.
Buyi's voiceover NiaoNiao's lifeless look is such a cinematic masterpiece- she doesn't forgive. She simply moves away and let them realize what they've done, the mother and the fiancé. How happy she was when she learnt that her mother was coming back! And she completely failed NiaoNiao in every way possible. And the way she figured out Buyi's actual planning, gave him chances to come clean to her, and still when he didn't, she voluntarily chose his side and his fate as hers- only to be left behind again! She's so strong
It really saddens me that her mother and maid cannot see that her “growing up” is anguish. She’s so grief stricken and fragile but no one around her can see.
I really disliked the cousin in this scene, because the aunt took care of her better than she did her own daughter. The daughter rightfully owed the mother nothing. If the mother was sick the niece should have taken care of her. No No was going to take of the Queen who has acted like a mother towards her.
i dont think qing cong meant grown up the way most people are taking it. i think she meant grown up in that she has now harshly entered the adult world.
Who said a lady must find a husband? I'll find one if I want It doesn't matter if I don't find one When woman get to this point which is acceptance, chances for you to get her is low
May i know why he asked to be banished when even the emperor pardoned him? Also, he should have been waiting in front of niao2 house instead of asking niao2 to come to the capital gate to meet him. Its he who abandoned her
I think he’s punishing himself for his betrayal of SS, that’s why he chose to be banished. He didn’t wait for her at home because he doesn’t want to force or pressure her into anything. Asking her to meet him was his way of giving her a choice and freedom to do what she wanted.
He was pardoned for murder Ling Yi but not the crime of misusing the tiger seals and deceiving the then Crown Prince. As much as the Emperor favors him there must be some punishment as the whole court witnessed and knew about what happened. Besides he's too talented a General to get to beg a girl for forgiveness when he knows she meant what she said. Him waiting at the gate was his last ditch attempt to see if she would hopefully forgive.
Even that Qing Cong woman near the mother's side keeps on feeding her nonsense. NBC's mother has been wrong since the beginning and that's a fact STOP telling her that nonsense😒

5 years is a long time guys…🥹💔 this heart is no more belongs to anyone..just living but not halfly alive inside..ahhhh our general & Niao niao 😭
6:48 amazed at Huo Buyi. He actually thought she would come say goodbye after he abandoned her again.
what a heartbreaking scene. Niaoniao has lost faith in love 😢
Especially when he made her believe, she never did until him but for him to break it feels like a double whammy!
That last relic from Ling Bu Yi and now she is returning it to him 😞

Didn’t make her feel happy when her mother took that girl in and treated better then she did Shaoshang
The end of shaoshang-buyi.
The mother « Ah Cong, was I wrong from the beginning ? »
*That’s what everyone has been telling from the beginning, for Christ’s sake* 😓
Even that Qing Cong woman near the mother's side keeps on feeding her nonsense. NBC's mother has been wrong since the beginning and that's a fact STOP telling her that nonsense😒
