@@OzSpud72 nobody's saying she didn't need to go to war. We're saying the mom should have brought Shaoshang with her, too, like she did her twin brother. There was no need to abandon ONLY one child just because the grandma is a witch. They could have gone to war and brought ALL their kids. They chose not to. Furthermore, Shaoshang's mom also had been given a second chance to forge better relationship with her the moment they returned home, but she was so keen to discipline her daughter to make her fit in their norms. She should had chosen a gentler, more kinder way in expressing her love to her only daughter, which the empress did and made Shaoshang love the empress deeply.
It’s little too late to say sorry. If mother treated Niao Niao like how she Yang Yang. Maybe things would have been different. I never like mother and don’t feel bad for her.
Her mother resented Niao Niao because she thinks she behaves like Yang Yang,s mother. But what she failed to realized is that Niao Niao had to develop survival skills to stay alive. Yang Yang was raised by her aunt and behaves completely different from her mother. All Niao Niao wanted was to receive some love and compassion from her mother.
The drama of "get the carriage!!" when that takes time and she could have run the 20feet after shaoshang on foot because they weren't trya go fast. But panicking like your 20minute stall tactic isn't losing you time. You're a war hero you don't need a carriage you need a horse. Or to run. If you want your daughter prove it don't stall.
Actually the mothers treatment of her is from shame, shame she left her and shame how she was treated when they were at war. She came back saw her behaviors and it was not like military is now. So she sees she’s wrong wants nao to be happy and well behaved. Sad she can’t communicate this. Too late

I understand she has to leave the daughter behind for the war but how she treats the daughter after she comes back isn't something i can understand
