This is absolutely awesome! I knew there was a mathematical approach to this i was just in denial. I’ll map it and calculate. Special request...can you pls do a watering video? for zoysia? THANK YOU!!!
Hi. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Actually I have already installed zoysia Emerald rolls in my backyard but it is ugly with a lot of weed what herbicide do you use?. Also iinstalled sprinkler irrigation and I added a fertilizer pump to add nutrients in the water. What liquid organic fertilizer do you recommend to use? Thanks a lot. Regards from Topolobampo, Sinaloa México.
Hi Paul, your climate at Topolobampo, Sinaloa México, is quite different from mine. But I looked it up and compared them: - Topolobampo, Sinaloa, Mexico: www.worldweatheronline.com/topolobampo-weather-averages/sinaloa/mx.aspx - McKinney, Texas, USA: www.worldweatheronline.com/mckinney-weather-averages/texas/us.aspx I believe your grass stays green throughout the year but grows slower during December to February when the temperature is cooler (please correct me if i'm wrong). As for handling weed, I still never use herbicides as the grass was well maintained since installation on April 2018. It is always dense and crowds out most of the weeds. Once a while some weeds show up and they can be removed by hand without feeling tired. During early spring there were more weeds but they were weak as the grass was kept at 2.5 inch when it goes dormant, which can really crowds out weed providing that it is dense. Herbicides harms/might kill the grass when apply during hot weather. Maybe try hand pull them? The irrigation is very very important. During peak summer (July and August) I water it 20 mins every 2 days to keep it dense and happy. Reason behind 20 minutes is it's clay soil and water takes time to go deeper, so have to water long. I always use Philips screwdriver to test the soil moisture. If it goes in smooth, it's good, if half smooth, then still ok, if hard, then irrigation is needed at 4am-6am later. I couldn't find much info about your soil type. But, try this, water 5 minutes, use a regular Philips screwdriver and poke into ground and see how deep it can goes. If can go 4 inches into the soil smoothly, then it's good. Adjust the sprinkler accordingly. Feel the sprinkler coverage (water) with hands at every section ( I did that when inspect the sprinkler coverage. whole body soaked). Screwdriver is a great tool to test if the soil is watered enough. For your climate, mid May to August is hot and dry despite more rainfall on August/September/November, so likely you need water it a lot, maybe every 2 to 3 days. Water in the early morning within 4 - 6am , that the time when the soil is the coolest and wind is less. I do use organic fertilizer in sprayer during hotter weather once a month (June, July, August, Sept). I mix these 3 in sprayer and spray it in the evening before irrigation occur the next morning : a) Seaweed Extract - www.ebay.com/i/184136390795?chn=ps b) Organic Soil Activator - www.homedepot.com/p/Medina-1-gal-Organic-Soil-Activator-100046962/203121053 c) Neem oil (not sure if it helps in repel insect, i just mix it anyway) - www.ebay.com/itm/12-OZ-NEEM-OIL-ORGANIC/150404090135?hash=item2304c84917:g:B84AAOSw-vlVpUBY In your climate, you likely have to fertilize more, use the rule "2 lbs of Nitrogen per 1000 sqft per 7 months", your climate have 9 months, so will be "2.6 lbs of Nitrogen per 1000 sqft per 9 months" Always use reel mower to mow. It cuts grass like scissor, very clean, unlike rotary mower that slash and tear grass apart resulting it damage. Trim the grass edges with this type of shears www.amazon.com/Fiskars-Long-Handle-Swivel-Shears-92107935J/dp/B00004SD6Y. Regular spinning trimmer will only do more damage. Emerald zoysia recovers slow so needs some care , but it is so beautiful, everyone that passed by the front yard gave compliments ^^

@@peacemakervic1290 Hi, sorry about my late response. i did`t recognize your e-mail due to a hundred publicity mails that i received dayli . I have already sent you a friend request to your Facebook group as "Paul Castro". I think it would be better to share there my progress with my Zoysia Emerald. Thanks a lot. Kind Regards
Hi! Thanks for sharing. I wondered the same as Paul Miguel Castro Quiroz-my grass has weeds, and I pull by hand but it gets tiring. I will continue to do a better job maintaining the grass so that the weeds get pushed out by the dense zoysia. I will also continue to pull by hand. Just so I understand about the fertilizing- I only need to apply fertilizer three times a year-May, June, July, right? I live in Greenville, South Carolina. Like Paul, I would also like to share updated pictures of my zoysia grass with you. I am hoping with your guidance, and some work it’ll look dense and green by summer. Let me know and i will set up a grass email. No pressure. Thanks again! I really enjoy learning from you.
Hi Maico, Greenville, South Carolina weather pattern is very similar to my area here in McKinney, Texas. Pull by hand is good! Chemical stress the lawn and microbes out., The fertilizing schedule is May-July-September. That's 2 months apart. July is a hot month, so if using synthetic fertilizer (which is strong), be sure to pick a day where it's not extremely hot (>100ºF), the less hot the better, to fertilize it. Do it early in the morning. If you see fertilizer lift up on the grass blade, tap it down to the soil with a broom or something so that it won't burn the grass blades. Also be sure grass gets enough water for the days after fertilizing. I've just enabled my email address on the channel About page. You can reach out to me there. Will see you there.
Hi i just had emerald zoysia sod put in 3 weeks now, we are in august 2020 in arlington Texas, when should i ferterlize. And can i use new start fertalizer at this new sod. Pls help thx
Victoria Johnson awesome ! fertilize after 30-45 days of sod installation, when almost no longer can see individual pieces. Fertilize too early prevent grass roots from implanting themselves deeply into ground. :)
No sir. Nothing about humic yet but i heard it's great product. However, once every 3 weeks i'll spray Kelp (Seaweed) fertilizer + neem oil (which i'm not sure if it helps but i just do it anyway. as a hobby gardener i knew kelp strenghten plant, neem oil kill/prevent pest/disease)
@@peacemakervic1290 I have all the products humic 12 and rgs work I order some x green it will get in on Tuesday... One landscaper said I needed to throw down 15 lbs of nitrogen lol on zorro zoyzia lol I told him u must not watch ur channel lol

Do you put sand to level your lawn?
We need an update. How’s the lawn doing now?
It’s doing great now, but isn’t dense as F yet which I’ll do a mowing video on. Tidying up the front yard and will come out with an update.
Just uploaded the update video :)

lolz. Was that 15 lbs of Nitrogen per 1000 sqft he mentioned ? (Unless the lawn is 7000 sqft then he's right)
@@peacemakervic1290 it's only 2k sf
Fortunately.. that kind of rate is for Bermuda at very max!
My zoysia is so thick it boggs down my honda walk behind lawn mower and doesn't bag all the grass. Have to do a double cut on the lawn.
That's a good sign!
