- Hey everyone! My names Nathen and I’m 19. Ive has Foot Drop for 4 years now and through a ton of experimenting on my body I’ve found out what works best for me personally on how to overcome and conquer this disease. My intention is to provide value for each and everyone who is suffering with Foot Drop and to help in any way possible so we can all beat this together. What a genuinely kind and considerate person you are.Never met you...but Im telling you I felt your energy through the video....thank you..people like you are contagious to the WORLD...and much needed...I know this is 'off subject' but I Had to tell you that...Wishing you the Best and tons of Happiness!!
I got dropping foot after becoming paralyzed from a car accident and was told that it was all over. Your pep talk on your video has given me hope! Looking forward to seeing more videos from you! Peace ✌and Blessings!
Me to I was paralyzed also after car accident
Hi man, your video is awesome. I thought I was the only person dealing with this kind of problem. It’s cool to hear about somebody else dealing with this kind of problem. Keep posting your videos, they are so helpful.
Been suffering from bilateral foot drop for 15 years ✊✊✊
No offense, but you are young, and everything is easier when you are young... you are a kind and considerate person!
thank you nathan! I recently got foot drop and have been really concerned and self conscious about it but your video was really inspiring. I'm 17 so it's nice to see somebody close to my age experiencing the same thing. 😊
Matthew I was shot on June 19 which lead to my foot drop, most doctors I went to told me I would probably never walk again without assistance of some kind or just didn’t say much at all. I was extremely sad, depressed and self conscious myself but as of today around 3 am my foot started to move again hang in there. I seen the most improvement when I was smiling and laughing the whole day instead of thinking about how I may not walk again without assistance just know this isn’t unbeatable. Peace and a speedy recovery for you young man you will overcome this! Also don’t listen to those doctors I had some of the best doctors in the world look at my foot here in Dallas tx and truthfully i don’t think any of these doctors know much about drop foot. Listen to your body more than those doctors. Much luck Matthew.
@@michealanderson5333 I was shot last January & same happened to me brother ! Your not alone
Hey. I really appreciate this video. I’ve had foot drop for 2 weeks now and I’m still in the process of diagnosing the underlying condition. Most likely it’s scoliosis. I’ve had scoliosis and sciatica for 24+ years. It’s been SO hard to cope but I agree with everything you said. Stay positive and work around it. Good to know there’s a support system out there!
Did you fix your foot drop ? Mine dropped earlier this week due to a bulging disc pinching the nerve
@@GREENHOFFSdid yours heal from your bulging disc I have the same thing now
@@rovaniainaraveloson5622 mine is 90% healed. I did lots of ice work to take the swelling down, stretching and then I strengthened my core muscles. It’s been a long journey but I’m glad I didn’t have surgery. I lost weight as well to alleviate the pressure. I hope you make a recovery
Thank you for sharing..I have foot drop for 4 years now..I am doing what your doing...being motivated and doing alot of physical activity...
Thank you man best video I have seen for drop foot .
Nathen, I got foot drop 3 years ago when I ruptured a disc at L4 & 5. the disc imbedded into my sciatic nerve and killed all nerve endings from hip to toes. I was told I'd never walk again. Being very active my whole life I wouldn't except that diagnosis. I was lucky to find a physical trainer who had worked before with another drop foot. I started training 3 days a week with him. I pushed myself and was persistent in the weight training. I built up the muscles at hip first and as I gained back the nerve impulses (which was very slow and took a very long time) I focused on the muscles leading down the leg to the foot .Using electrodes to stimulate muscles. It has taken over 3 years but I now have full use of my foot and walk without any cane or brace. I'm still in training with weight. The foot & toes, though functioning do not raise up as high as I'd like and the big toe still needs hard work. I'm not stopping my workout regiment anytime soon until my foot functions completely normal and neither should you. Listen to yourself. Do what you like to do. Push your muscles as hard as possible. I was told I'd never walk again by doctors and therapists. I now walk without any aids 5-6 miles a day in normal shoes. Your correct. There is nothing on the internet . Think outside the box to work the foot muscle groups. Progress is slow but it definitely shows continual improvement. Never Give Up. Good Luck.
DONNA, I'm curious to know if you had surgery to remove your disc, or at least the herniated portion?
Hi Donna, I might have a similar situation and I’m using a similar strategy to recover. It was helpful to see that it will take a long time. Your post has given me hope. Any chance I could ask you a few questions about your recovery process?
@@laurahanson849 I have also foot drop .is your foot drop cure or not pls help me and sorry for my English

Hey man I know this video was 2 years ago but if you can drop your daily routine on stretches and stuff like that it’ll be greatly appreciated
I have a spinal cord injury in my neck and now I have foot drop in my right foot. Just waiting for pyhsio to see if that will rectify it. I'm always falling on my face because I can't walk that well as it is. I'm always up for a challenge. Well one, keep going!
Elasticated diktus?
Yess this video has inspired me thank you ❤️
You are absolutely right!! The worst thing I did was to stop working out, the rest of the body, like dominoes, loses muscle tone when the affected foot stops working.
i got in a bike accident and fractured my pelvis and got foot drop, there is a chance that it will come back and im very hopeful and this definitely helps me feel more confident it will and i will overcome it. thanks man
This was so helpful!
Awesome video dude.
I have a foot drop after T12 L1 laminectomy and disectomy.. But I am in recovery period My foot began to move a little after 5/6 months and after 1 yr it feels improving now 1 n 1/2, yr feel little improving but my sense in the effected foot is less than the other.
If you have the will and if ur minds connects your soul everthing is possible. Great story my friend.
Thanks for the video. Love what you said about mind and doing what you think you can’t do. Any updates? Don’t quit. I have CMT and excercise does help. What type of stretches do you do?
Iv had drop foot for 26 years now and this young lad was just like me I had to pack in sports iv tripped many times but been told be like this for rest of my life but fair play to this young man
I have foot drop since 26 years due to a road accident and next week doctors will perform posterior tibial nerve surgery to treat my foot drop, could you tell me your experience.
@@nidhimandaliya6816 my experience with my drop foot you will just have to get used to it my worse thing bout it is find myself tripping a lot the numbness in my foot and also it gets very cold all the time
Yes great motivational video don't let it stop you doing anything if you want to do it enough
This seems to be so helpful. Thanks
Nathan. You are the man I was looking for when I was trying to figure out what it would be like to live with foot drop. I am fortunate that I have strength in my foot still. The choice in front of me is whether to risk foot drop and continue to be able to surf with a waveski or have back surgery to Prevent further nerve damage and foot drop however will make it hard to waveski. I live to wave ski and be in the ocean every day so right now I’m Trying to figure out just how hard it would be to live with Foot drop. Any advice? Like you I ignored the doctors and continued my sports. Like you I I’m trying to figure it out as I go. Thank you again for your kind thoughtful and helpful video.
Is foot drop a stand alone condition? I heard of it with ALS or MS etc but did not know you could have it by itself or do you have other associated symptoms? I got poisoned 5years ago by breathing toxic fumes for 3 months and have fallen over hundreds of times. Very agile so usually don’t hurt myself. I don’t know the dynamics of the fall but just recently am suspecting a mild form of foot drop that causes me to fall flat on the ground unexpectedly. It appears that the foot has not moved forward when walking sometimes unbeknown to me and I fall into the void. Getting up I wonder how on earth that happened? Unfortunately I fell 3 times in the office in a week and the manager had to talk with me. They hadn’t seen me do this before and I may lose my job as a truck driver as they fear I may fall over and badly hurt myself on their watch. I showed them a neurologist report that shows that I am perfectly ok and just needed reassuring , (as of course it’s all in my head!). I have other symptoms though that are associated like all over body weakness with arms as weak as my legs.
Im so thankful for this video, i have 2 months of this and i do feel like a victim 😔 its so hard , cuz i have a new born, and i have foot drop and some other nerve issue... drs. Havent told me a diagnistic
Great video! I have low level drop foot so I wear a combat boot for stability, and structure it helps correct my gait so i have to lift to point my toes up when walking
Thanks for shearing this video, i would like to see more about your workout.
I like what you said about to accept your self🤝yeah we must live with it
What stretches did you do and which ones were really helpful? Any supporting devices that you can reccomend.
$3 solution. Buy 3 ft bungee cord. Hook one end to belt. Other end to forward shoelace. Adjust length with knot(s). Conceal in pant leg. (Optional).
Laceless shoes- wrap Guerrilla Tape around front of shoe.. Hook under tape. It works
My foot drop is from Hemi-plegic migraines. I get left sided weakness from attacks. Ever since my first attack my left side has not been the same
For some one so young you sure are smart and most of all caring of others. I have had foot drop since Dec 2018 and no one can figure out why. I am 72 and determined not to give up although it is hard. Just getting the right shoes 👟 is hard. I have tried a few braces. The one I like best is a Velcro brave that goes around my ankle area that attaches to my shoe lacing and holds my toes up. Very simple. I can even attach it to flip flops. The ones that go in my shoe are not comfortable. My biggest problem is walking outside on grass or gravel. Especially walking up hill seems impossible. Do you have any ideas to help me walk on grass? I find I can still line dance in my exercise class to most songs which I am thankful for. Before this I was very active but now walking too far is very hard. Thank you for telling me not to give up.
You help me a lot. Thanks my friend
Thank you for making this video! I appreciate it!

Same here bro since March this year, still trying to overcome it.
Ok so I just got foot drop for the first time in my life literally today … I didn’t have no surgery or nothing… I was simply playing soccer and I shot with the laces about 5 times… I usually always do this and never has it happened… I was wondering since I have no condition or anything and I didn’t have no disc surgery either, just simply soccer, will this go away?
I have foot drop and i would like to run and play basketball but with foot drop its hard how it you overcome this challenge?

i have a foot drop in my left leg met with an accident and in may 2021 it will be 2 years, it has not been recovered yet, not sure it will recover or do i have to live with it but you know it hurts thinking will it be going to recover ever.
Foot drop occurred by byke accident could it be recovered ..if yes how long it's been 6 moths till now having foot drop
This really cheered me up. I was in a really bad car accident in March that resulted in nerve damage to my right foot. Surgeons said that normal movement of my foot may never return. This entire experience continues to be a constant adjustment to my ”new normal”. I'm constantly wondering if i’ll ever be able to be a photographer again, if ill be able to wear heels, chase my daughter, walk down the isle. I find myself randomly crying and geting sad whenever those things cross my mind. But your video reminded me that i just have to keep pushing, life goes on, and im more possible than i give myself credit for. Im saving this video, just so when i feel like im getting sad, i can see someone else, in a similar situation as me, still living his life with a smile on his face. Thank you.
I lost all feeling and movement in my left foot, its been 6 months and no change at all. I definitely have days where I get upset but I just have to adapt to this new way of living. I walk with a cane and im only 27
I am going on two year having permanent drop foot from a knee injury surgery. I am in constant pain numbness , weakness , ect. I have those same thoughts & I just try to push through. It’s so painful to sleep and when I do little work outs some times I have to rest the entire day the next day. But it’s nice to see other living with it and adapting. Good luck with your journey and keep your head up 💚
Same condition same way, 23 going on 2 years since I’ve had it slowed my life down but still keeping my head high, lowkey good to hear others sharing my condition
Thank you bro cause I have footdrop now and this really help me now ikno I can overcome it I keep pushing thank you 🙏🏻
foot drop took me out of ice hockey but my doctor said mine could be restored if i work on it . been 2years since an movement in my nerves are improving also driving can be a very annoying to ngl. with a foot drop.
I have slip disc...doctor got through many treatment but they didn't find why this foot drop happened. So thats why I want advice
Thanks for posting this. I had never heard of this before 2 weeks ago. I'm waiting to see a neurologist. They'll be doing an emg test on me. You mentioned that it took a year to figure out the cause, is that a usual amount of time?
thedarksea1 I’m glad you are getting a Nerve conduction study. My dr waited too long to get mine and my nerve is gone. I like this fellows advice. Don’t give up.
I don't think that's the usual amount of time at all. Usually a person with lower back pain, degenerative disc. You know if you've been having lower back pain. Lower back pain can happen with age. That was me. Neurological disorders such as dementia, muscular disorders such as MS. You must strengthen your leg, thigh and ankle muscles if it is the lower back problem. That was the way it was with me. I am 100% better, but still not what I was. I don't fall anymore.
i have a foot drop just got out of surgery how long did you have to use a walker so you could be able to balanc3 or to not use a walker thank you
Speedy recovery to you!
went from wheelchair with leg brace..to walker...to cane ..and now without any of this..and I was told this was my life...NOT TRUE..I work everyday to heal this situation..DO NOT let anyone tell you negative things...you can certainly improve this by thinking positive like this young man said and as much physical activity as possible...good luck
It's been 9 months? How have you recovered? Did your foot recover? I have nerve damage from knee surgery too and its been 3 months since the surgery. My foot wont lift at all
Thankyou,this helps👍
I have bilateral footdrop afo braces how can you run with it?
I have foot drop too. Sometimes I get anxiety wondering if anyone is looking at The way I walk. I just try to do foot workouts everyday and it helps alittle.
Is your footdrop still there..and how it affects ur life?
Try a brace. There are a lot of simple braces nowadays that attach to your shoe. Just check amazon. $20 to $100
I had a stroke that affected my left side and I have foot drop. What stretches can help me?
Had a stroke too, foot drop right side. With a stroke, the muscle is functional, but the brain can no longer connect. I find that is you bend your knee up to your chest while laying flat, you can bend the ankle easier. Try it. I'm going to perfect this and progress to where I can bend it with the leg straight.
You need to make another video... keep on going... how about an update? You have a good talent so put it out there! Also could you please show some of your stretches? This would be helpful, action video showing your foot movements.... j/"Chicago

How the hell do you do anything but walk relitively slow? How the hell can you RUN or jump? I mean my foot drop started less than a week ago and the drs seem clueless too they are saying its scatica (I have had sciatica many times).
Do you have numb shins? And numbness on the top if your foot?
Do ankle braces help? I don’t fancy some weird drug being pumped in me lol or is that UV thing how you’re able to run and jump?
At the moment I’m struggling not to fall over going to the shop for basic groceries. I feel very unsteady, I really don’t want to have a walking stick... ever! But I’d rather have a stick than fall over as much as I do.
Dr thinks I’ll get better but I feel very sceptical of that.
How are you doing now? Any improvement?
I thought the same thing when he said run and play sports. I walk slowly now so my foot won't drag. You can get foot drop from sciatica, lower back pain, stroke, dementia. You have to do exercises to strengthen the foot, ankle and thigh exercises. I was falling a lot too until I made it a point to be aware of my walking gait. I never fell again. My foot drop kicks in when I am tired and not as in tune with my gait. But, that young man is right. You must constantly do ankle stretches. Go to a physical therapist or RUclips a physical therapist online and they will show you specific exercises for drop foot.

I'll just ask the question. Has anyone here recovered from foot drop?.i had knee surgery 3 months ago, had nerve damage and havent been able to lift my foot ever since.. the doctors tell me this will take time to heal..etcetc.that most cases heal... noone has told me.it's permanent.. but i'm.searching the whole internet and haven't found one single testimony of someone who recovered motion after foot drop caused by nerve damage during surgery. I'm doing physiotherapy but i feel like ppl are lying to me..or not being completely honest.. starting to feel helpless.
I feel the same way, I have foot drop due to peroneal nerve damage. Going on 6 months and I still cant feel or. move my left foot, with numbness throughout my left leg. One dr did say it was permanent, but I didnt want to believe him.

This is a nice video, but please don't swear unnecessarily. You seem so much better and more professional than that. Having had foot drop for a couple of years, it usually is an after effect of a stroke, lower back problems (mine was) or mental disability such as dementia. It is the ankle, foot and thigh that needs the extra exercise to develop those muscles. It could be the reason basketball has helped you so much as that particular sport engages the entire leg muscles.
Or a genetic, progressive, crippling peripheral nerve disease or MD or something else along those lines.
Why did you get foot drop?
Do you have peripheral nerve damage and muscle damage?
Have you had a diagnoses?
I'm not sure why your doctor said not to be physically active but you shouldn't tell others what to do or not do or imply they shouldn't listen to their doctors.
My foot drop is not in my head and stretching does not cure it, I was born with a genetic crippling neuromuscular condition called Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT1A).
You let someone pump you with chemicals and have no idea what they are and no diagnoses, hmmm?
When you can successfully relate what you mean rather than badly worked out mumbling you will clearly see that this young man has been diagnosed. He's also not telling anyone to do anything, he's telling you what might work for you because he found it beneficial. Then again, there's always a negative one, and you're it.
Hi...I've had foot drop now for 25 years since a four wheel atv accident. Do you were an AFO of some kind? I really need help with stretches....which do u do? Thx for the positive vibe.
