Push-ups are one of my favourite exercises ever. There’s just something so satisfying(at least to me) about being able to go all the way down and come back up smoothly. I do them everyday. A total of 50 push-ups but spilt into sets. The maximum that I can do in one go without stopping is usually 15 but 20 on a good day. Being consistent with this, you will really start to see your body change. I don’t do any other forms of strengthening exercises just push-ups and my cardio daily and I’ve started to see my back, my abs, my chest and obviously my arms become so much more defined. It’s amazing.

I see that you're really into push ups. Be careful though of training one set of muscles over a long period of time and neglecting the opposing muscles - the lats, biceps and rear delts in this case. This can lead to an imbalance and an increased risk of injury. For training the lats, biceps and rear delts, you could add inverted rows to your routine. I do those under a chair. It's pretty much the opposite of a push up.

That is because you are stronger in the eccentric(negative pahse), than in the concentric(positive phase). So, if you performed a bicep curl, the concentric phase would be curling the dumbell/barbell towrds your shoulder, then the eccentric phase would be lowering the weight back to the start. If you tried to curl a heavier weight than you could handle, if a partner assisted you, you would be able to lower the weight under control even though you could not lifrt the weight up without assistance. With press ups, the eccentric phase comes first, so you can lower yourself down, but cant get back up. Try this, lower yourself down in perfect form, slowly(all the way down), then, put your knees down, press up, then bring your lower body up. Keep trying, you will get there.

I'm pretty new to the whole working out thing. I thought push ups were supposed to be really basic, easy stuff since my PE teacher in elementary school tried to get me to do them. I couldn't do it then, and I still can't do them now. My arms shake just holding myself up in position, let alone moving without landing on my face. It's great to hear that push ups are something to build up to, rather than something I should feel bad for not being able to do off the bat.
I'm finally going to do a push up! I swear on my honor!! But maybe in a few months or so...

So many fitness tips, workout routines or instructors on YT incorporate pushups and it's super frustrating when you are following a workout, getting by just well and suddenly you need to do pushups and fail terribly. Thanks for talking about the reality of it. That it is quite common for not being able to do them right away and that it will take some training. Enjoyed this video and it’s creator / instructor. She taught at my level of comprehending and she was very pleasant along the way. I’m up to sets of 25 (3 times a day) on a chair. I have to do 25 sit ups in less than one minute for the police department job I’m seeking. This video I pray will help. I have already discovered from the video that I’ve been breathing wrong. Problem fixed! Thank you.
