  • Today I join Jamie and his crewman Ryan on the Commercial Fishing Emily K out of Mylor. I am spending a day in the life of a Cornish Crab fisherman. We work their commercial crab and lobster pots and land the catch to the local fish market in Falmouth.

    I really appreciate the learning experience. It is to ride with you in your fishing experiences. You don't take an awful lap for granted in the knowledge of your audience and so it has to appeal across-the-board to savvy as well as not so savvy

    Great video as always mate. Mylor is such a nice place. I used to cycle from Falmouth up to the Pandora and stop off at Mylor on the way back. Miss the place so much.

    Another great informative and entertaining video, i just relised that in previous vids I had negleced to thank the crews you have visited, I do so now and retrospectively to previous hosts. The spider crabs do apparently move along together and even climb over the newly molted soft shelled amoungst them to protect them from preditors at a vulnearable time!

      @@TheFishLocker Yeh, I figured you'd say no to that one John. It must be so important to those boys how much they get for their haul. Time you pay for fuel, maintenance of the boat and their gear and that's before they even consider a wage. Thanks again John.

    Great day out Jon. As usual a fantastic atmosphere on the boat. I know what you mean about the smell of the pots, you get used to it. The harbour in Amble is also used for the market. 👍👍

      @@TheFishLocker I’ll look forward to the video… would the person that empties the pods wear a GoPro on his chest so that we could get a much closer look into that part of bringing the pods in… We got to get a closer look at pods being stacked n sent bac out again n also baiting them as they go… it was just missing a closer look into that part of it… I promise I’m not complaining (I’m just a nosey pain in the rear lmao) I just thought I’d ask if that would b possible on ya next trip out wit them xxxx

    John, EXCELLENT video! Really liked the different camera angles, the stacking of the pots and ropes, and you could see that they use "work smarter, not harder" with that gate. With the first few out, the rest followed, cool!

    Great video John and thanks for providing the insight.
    I think we should remember that that day was prettty well flat calm and you have given me an enhanced respect for when these fellas have to go out in rough weather and still do the same job in such tight conditions.
    I'll eat my next lobster (it doesn't happen very often) more slowly and spare a thought for our fisherfolk whilst I do so!!

    That was a very interesting trip you took us all on there. I remember in the old days when there would be fishmongers in more or less all costal towns but nowadays it is almost impossible to find fresh fish straight out of the sea, unless you go and catch it yourself. I suppose it all goes to the big auctions nowadays, so maybe that is a video you might do in the future?

      @@TheFishLocker A video showing what happens between the fish are caught and they become for sale to the public was what I was thinking. Many fishing towns don't have fishmongers anymore so fresh fish is scarce and I suppose the supermarket version means a long delay and less fresh fish?

    Love these commercial fishing videos that show that there is more to fishing then big trawlers😀How far from shore do you have to be when you fish commercially and are you,as a hobby fisherman allowed to fish in the same waters as they are?Great crew on the boat.       @@TheFishLocker yeah about to start a 48 day turn offshore of Aberdeen on a drilling rig! But we go anywhere and everywhere - I narrowly avoided Nigeria

    LOVING those overhead views! Octo snared @ 11:20 had me, & other Hawaii viewers, SALIVATING over their screens! Looks to be, 3-5#(?). Having grown up in/around Hawaiian waters, Still cannot get over myriad of ocean creatures taking residence in/around sea bed....A-L-O-H-A from Hawaii

      It is the cool and oxygen rich waters around the U.K. that supports such rich seaweeds. These are the foundations for that rich myriad.
