      Why do they keep the congers? Didn’t know people eat them?

    • @Thll146
      @Thll146 Год назад

      John just finished watching the video and understand. Surely they can dispatch them before gutting them? Don’t get me wrong I’m not a vegan or vegetarian but man that was quite brutal.

      @@Thll146- I’m not sure how you got that from the video? All of the fish were dispatched, iced, and then on the way home all were gutted. We even talk about the process and order in the video?

      @@Thll146I used to throw all of mine back, until a chef freind cooked some for me in beer batter. I was impressed and now keep the occasional one. Extremely few people eat them here in Ireland. It's always been like that.

    Now pensioned, but finding out on the internet the money that Aaron gets from this day fishing, it surprises me he is still doing it. I would not set my alarmclock for this small amount of money. Shows you that being a commercial fisherman is hard work and little pay. On the bright side of this a, again, stunning video, of the more than nice fish you and the lads got on board. I have had my fair share of eels fishing from England and Ireland, but have never caught an eel over 50lb. So thumbs up up for the boys that had 60lb fish. Greetz from Holland

      nope wrong... commercial fishing is all about destruction no matter how you do it. The statistics prove it. Almost every major commercial fish species worldwide is in decline while the fishermen still lie that it is sustainable.

    Thanks for including the gutting process, some people believe it just miraculously turns up in a vacpack in shop n that's fish. I've worked in an abattoir processing turkeys, you kind of get numb to it even them puking down your wellies, fight or flight, it's just a process. Oddly I can't eat turkey any more.

    Very nice session. Still don't understand the right hand reel on heavy tackle though. I get that the rods are inverted but don't see why the reel needs to be. Surely with big fish you want to use your stronger arm and for most people that is the right.

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  Год назад

      Exactly. Which is why it is on the reel. For winding the handle.

    • @intellex551

      @@TheFishLocker A handle which is geared and ratcheted, in my opinion that's not the difficult part. And I've always found it awkward whenever doing this kind of fishing. But you are far more experienced than I am so I will give way.

    I’m an angler. That a video I enjoyed. When I travel to different places I’m always interested in the things you’ve highlighted on this video. Kinda like a who, what, when where basic stuff.
    My friends from GB have told me about sport conger fishing on weekends etc. I’ve wondered why I’ve not heard of anybody targeting conger in the west Atlantic ? Yep we call the Spiny Red’s “ Robins”. I would say that I could imagine a very similar day fishing on the North American Atlantic, with Wolffish also caught. I’ve seen large Wolffish thrown out as “undesirable”, wow.
    Really liked being along for the morning and seeing how you rig gear, and all the details. HAVE A GREAT DAY,,FROM OTTAWA !
