Now pensioned, but finding out on the internet the money that Aaron gets from this day fishing, it surprises me he is still doing it. I would not set my alarmclock for this small amount of money. Shows you that being a commercial fisherman is hard work and little pay. On the bright side of this a, again, stunning video, of the more than nice fish you and the lads got on board. I have had my fair share of eels fishing from England and Ireland, but have never caught an eel over 50lb. So thumbs up up for the boys that had 60lb fish. Greetz from Holland

nope wrong... commercial fishing is all about destruction no matter how you do it. The statistics prove it. Almost every major commercial fish species worldwide is in decline while the fishermen still lie that it is sustainable.

What a cracking day , weather , fish and great company . Brilliant skippering , I always remember reading about a skipper on a Conger trip landing really big Conger , he gaffed this monster and landed it onto the deck he was wearing Jesus sandals , and the conger took a snap at his foot and got his big toe . So watch out .
Reminds me of the 70's when you could fill the bottom of the boat up with conger, ling, cod etc. Great watching these commercial guys. Sort the weather out, though, mate. I'm coming down next week for my annual jollies! 😂
I truly enjoy your recent commercial fishing content. I really wish more commercial fishing operations followed the practices demonstrated in these videos. In my opinion, it appears to be a more sustainable approach compared to larger trawlers.
It is infinitely more sustainable the methods I have shown compared to large trawler vessels. I do hope to highlight this with the video series. If people find the videos interesting and educational then I shall have done my job. 😊👍🏻
I caught my first Conger 2 weeks ago by accident in a pot. Was only 12lb but decided to keep it to try. Was actually very tasty fried up, meaty bright white flesh, lots of bones but didn't bother me. Kinda like monkfish but maybe a little less firm.
This series of pro fishing videos has been excellent. You've taken the emotion out of it. You've removed the "us versus them" approach that we often see and given us an insight into how some of the pro fishing fleet operate. Would like to see more if possible. Thanks.
Another fantastic day in the life video and for a fish I hadn't expected conger eel and there was some good sized beasties brought up and the pollack whilst drifting waiting to anchor were an added bonus

Well that was a busy day! Great to see how it all works. Conger is not my favourite fish but have caught and eaten in the past. We need to be less fussy in the UK about what we eat.
I love that way of fishing. Here in America, its trawlers everywhere. They destroy the bottom and catch every small fish there is. Best wishes from a fan of the channel.

We just share what we know and love doing mate. I don’t really play the RUclips game. If I wanted to be famous or “viral” I would do clickbaity stuff and name drop and be covered in sponsors. So long as we cover our costs and enjoy what we are doing, we are happy. 👍🏻🎣

Love the latest fishing trip. Great to see bunch of buddies enjoying the sport. Just an idea , it would be great to do a couple of videos on boating. I’m new to boating and learning about how to read the weather, maps, radio and tides. Great to see all the lads with life jackets on too. Top job John.
I have done a few intro to boats videos. The issue I face there about intro to boating videos is I am not a trained instructor - so it leaves me open to criticism and attack from RYA instructors and RNLI instructors etc.

Another tough day in thr office! The weather looked typical for this August. The hoo has followed me from PZ, Hayle, to Salcombe & Dartmouth. Not affected the fishing too much tho, just ruins the tan lines. Am enjoying this series of being out on charter boats, Aaron & Chippy are probably the most successful skippers on the south coast. Keep em coming John😊

Great looking Conger Trip. I used to eat Conger when I caught some fishing in Scotland. Made classic Jellied eel and baked . I would like to try some smoked. I bet that would be great. There is quite a lot of tanning of conger skin to make wallets, purses etc. Great looking skin when tanned.

Fishing around the UK is so prolific. We are going on charter boat at Grimsby on the 2nd of September. Never fished the East Coast before. Hope it is a good one. Fished in Weymouth and Brighton before. It was good in both places

Thanks for including the gutting process, some people believe it just miraculously turns up in a vacpack in shop n that's fish. I've worked in an abattoir processing turkeys, you kind of get numb to it even them puking down your wellies, fight or flight, it's just a process. Oddly I can't eat turkey any more.

Very nice session. Still don't understand the right hand reel on heavy tackle though. I get that the rods are inverted but don't see why the reel needs to be. Surely with big fish you want to use your stronger arm and for most people that is the right.
@@TheFishLocker A handle which is geared and ratcheted, in my opinion that's not the difficult part. And I've always found it awkward whenever doing this kind of fishing. But you are far more experienced than I am so I will give way.
Fantastic day's fishing, most would be over the moon with that catch. Went beach fishing on Bridlington North Beach on last month's high tide. Two knocks in 4 hours!

Me and my lad caught conger on a charter in Looe. I never knew fish that big could be caught on a rod 😂We let them go then bought a couple of conger steaks. Underrated eating fish conger. Like pollock. Have a good one.
I’m an angler. That a video I enjoyed. When I travel to different places I’m always interested in the things you’ve highlighted on this video. Kinda like a who, what, when where basic stuff. My friends from GB have told me about sport conger fishing on weekends etc. I’ve wondered why I’ve not heard of anybody targeting conger in the west Atlantic ? Yep we call the Spiny Red’s “ Robins”. I would say that I could imagine a very similar day fishing on the North American Atlantic, with Wolffish also caught. I’ve seen large Wolffish thrown out as “undesirable”, wow. Really liked being along for the morning and seeing how you rig gear, and all the details. HAVE A GREAT DAY,,FROM OTTAWA !

@@TheFishLockerI tried smoked eel when I was young. Nowadays it is forbidden to fish eel. Unless you are a pro fisherman with a permit (in Swdden).

You need to ask someone who likes them. I found them very greasy and not pleasant.

Thanks for including the gutting process, some people believe it just miraculously turns up in a vacpack in shop n that's fish. I've worked in an abattoir processing turkeys, you kind of get numb to it even them puking down your wellies, fight or flight, it's just a process. Oddly I can't eat turkey any more.
Sadly so many people have lost their connection with where food comes from. Hopefully these videos can go some way to helping solve that.

Very nice session. Still don't understand the right hand reel on heavy tackle though. I get that the rods are inverted but don't see why the reel needs to be. Surely with big fish you want to use your stronger arm and for most people that is the right.
Exactly. Which is why it is on the reel. For winding the handle.
@@TheFishLocker A handle which is geared and ratcheted, in my opinion that's not the difficult part. And I've always found it awkward whenever doing this kind of fishing. But you are far more experienced than I am so I will give way.
Fantastic day's fishing, most would be over the moon with that catch. Went beach fishing on Bridlington North Beach on last month's high tide. Two knocks in 4 hours!

Me and my lad caught conger on a charter in Looe. I never knew fish that big could be caught on a rod 😂We let them go then bought a couple of conger steaks. Underrated eating fish conger. Like pollock. Have a good one.

I’m an angler. That a video I enjoyed. When I travel to different places I’m always interested in the things you’ve highlighted on this video. Kinda like a who, what, when where basic stuff.
My friends from GB have told me about sport conger fishing on weekends etc. I’ve wondered why I’ve not heard of anybody targeting conger in the west Atlantic ? Yep we call the Spiny Red’s “ Robins”. I would say that I could imagine a very similar day fishing on the North American Atlantic, with Wolffish also caught. I’ve seen large Wolffish thrown out as “undesirable”, wow.
