    Some time back, RTD referred to episode four as the best thing he'd ever written. So high hopes for 73 Yards. Looking forward to Boom, hoping the old Moffat-writing-under-RTD magic is back.

    Oh wow... now you got my head spinning. If Ruby could be also a legend/myth/fairytalr bleeding into the world, here's my wild theory:
    The person that Drops her off is wearing a hooded cape. Like an old _Riding Hood_
    What's her name? Ruby! A different word for red. ==> Red Riding Hood
    What was the big mystery the first time around RTD was in charge? Bad Wolf!
    So maybe Ruby Sunday is the anathema to Bad Wolf?
    Wild theory I know^^

    Empire Of Death could very well obviously be referring to the Daleks but then I don’t see how they’d come into play with the big mystery surrounding Ruby and the whole thing with The Toymaker’s legions. I’d love to see Ncuti face off against them but not if doesn’t fit anywhere in the overall story

      As a big relaunch with only 8 episodes why take the risk of ending up with another ‘Orphan 55’ or ‘In the forest of the night’ ? Ed Himes & Frank Cottrell-Boyce were both new to Doctor Who & are both good writers generally but their 2 (each) Doctor Who episodes were some of the weakest the show has had (don’t even mention the talking frog )

    That was a really cool way to present the episodes I must say.

      They just sound very similar to me. I know the stories will be quite different, but 2024's S1 has some undeniable elements from 2005's S1, even in the Christmas special (I compared it with Rose back then). However, all the stories sound very interesting but I wish there were more writers to explore. I guess Russell doesn't want to take that risk yet, considering they probably have to pay and trust more people for something that is still being baked.

    "Boogeyman"? Oh dear, another example of American mispronunciation usurping a native British term. It's really "Bogyman", from a traditional name for a devil or evil spirit, and has nothing to do with boogie or boogie-woogie (dance).

    • @CulturePhilter

      @ftumschk 3 месяца назад

      @@CulturePhilter It's quite possible, Philip, although the word's origin is unclear. If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say it's likely to have derived from the Brythonic (Welsh/Cornish) "bwgan", meaning a goblin, sprite or evil spirit. If so, ironically, perhaps "boogie" is closer to the original than I thought :)

    • @nathanthomas5133

    • @ftumschk
      @ftumschk 3 месяца назад

      @@CulturePhilter I should point out for clarity that the "bog" bit rhymes with "rogue", not "dog"... i.e. it's "bogey", as in nasal snot or a bad score on a golf-course.
      It was always, always pronounced this way as far as my generation and our predecessors were concerned. Then we started getting more exposed to US mispronunciations, and it's been downhill ever since :)
