Imagine hitting an albatross when no one was around to see it, I was playing single one time and joined up with a father/son duo ahead of me and two holes later made my first hole in one, it was nice to have witnesses...

This actually happened to me, I nuked my drive about 320, but in order to hit the green in 2, it was a blind dogleg right. I hit it and honestly in the air I thought it was going to be long and off the green. Walking up we spent 5+ minutes looking everywhere for my ball, couldn't find it, until someone went to pull the pin and there it was. Would have been nice to see it go in after hitting it but with the drastic dogleg (and no TV cameras) we'll never know.

Another imagine (& it's a fact). My friend made an albatross on the par 5 3rd hole only to be upstaged by our playing buddy having a Bell's palsy stroke 4 holes later.

Hasn't happened to me, but I witnessed other players making a hole in one while they were on a solo-flight on two separate occasions.. each time they looked around to see if there was a witness, and each time I shouted to them that I had seen it and cheered. They were really happy someone did see it and we talked about it after our rounds in the club-house. Making an albatross and nobody seeing it must be painful.

Summer 2020 I was playing Oakland Greens in Norwood ON. My wife was driving the cart and enjoying being in nature while watching me play. I get up to a 500 yard par 5 with a storm rolling in with insane heavy winds helping off the tee. Pumped a cut down the fairway that left me 115 left to the pin. Took out my 54 degree and hit a great shot that one hopped and went right in the hole for an albatross. I freaked out with glee as my wife watched in bewilderment as I sprinted to the green yelling "I got an albatross OMG". She took out the camera and helped document the event. What a feeling. I have 2 hole in ones but they didn't compare to the rare albatross I had that day. You never know when something special on the golf course will happen.

Hole-in-one gets more hype, but the albatross is a lot more impressive. It requires a great drive, then something equivalent to a long hole-in-one right after. The scorecard agrees I suppose since it gives a -3 rather than the -2 of a hole-in-one.

There's something wrong when a player can hit a middle iron to a green on a Par 5. The whole point of a Par 5 is that it should take 3 strokes to get onto the green, be it distance or hole shape.
