I'm just so grateful Eric,Bobby,Jools, and this great band decided to play this song on the Jools Holland Show.. It was not planned , just a last mintue decission. Bobby and I wrote "Southern Gentleman" at my home in Mt. Juliet,Tn in the mid eighties and never thought of it as a record. We were wrong once again. Thanks BW. Jimmy Pasquale
Absolutely awesome performance from Bobby, Eric, Jools Holland and his band! Clapton was clearly having a good time - with Whitlock handling the vocals he just had a blast ...
When Eric learned that Bobby had sold his royalty rights to the Layla album, he instructed his lawyers to purchase them, and then handed them back to Bobby. 🎸
@ERIC F Pretty much. Guy doesn't even mention it in his autobiography. Whitlock and EC didn't meet for about 30 years till this performance and that's when EC found out.
I Can;t find this anywhere, where did you get this from? They had no contact for almost 30 yrs and Clapton or Whitlock didn't own the rights as far as I'm aware.
Brilliant arrangement? Yes! Perfect Execution? Almost! 'Over-produced' ? What? They hadn't played together for nearly thirty years and didn't even recognise each other when they walked into the studio. They rehearsed the song just once! This is what you get from consummate musicians. It is a great performance from two musicians who seem to brought out the best in each other.
Love Bobby Whitlock - great singer, solid musician, co-writer of some damn good tunes! Why hasn't Clapton collaborated with him in the studio and beyond in the 2000s?
@@pabloperez4063 yeah but look at the results. Time for something great again. Bobby is one of a kind and helped bring something out of Eric that hasn’t been topped
@@thomasminarchickjr.7355 We only have one live video with Derek and Dominos from back in the day, and that's just one song from the album. Would love to get Eric and Bobby to perform those songs in a proper concert, as recorded, before they get too old or one passes.

Wish they would tour together - take derek trucks and doyle bramhall along and play the Layla album and a bunch of Clapton's material right after Delaney and Bonnie. Lot's of great music. Whitlock wrote a lot of the music from the Layla album.
This is the first time I've seen this video. Great music. Got to know Bobby when he moved to my town a few years after this was filmed. He subsequently 'moved on'. But what an interesting guy. And what a terrific musician!
Missed this one ...bloody wonderful rock's like a bastard .Eric needs to reform D& The Dominoes just one more time...Oh how cool would that be and as footnote the rest of the band are from Jool's R&B Orchestra.
Just heard Bobby and CoCo in Austin last week and I was amazed at how he sings and the raw feeling he conveys. It would be a great tour if EC would agree but, in my opinion, Bobby was the guy Eric wanted to sing like, and Bobby shared in many of those early experiences that formed the Clapton we know today. Maybe that's too much for EC.
this is called the pocket in AMERICA its what brought bobby and eric together that musical goodness the gift from GOD that must be expressed george harrison felt it in whitlock db eric jools thankyou for staying in the pocket with this amazing musical aggregation purely IN THE POCKET MAGIC
Bobby's vocals are so strong and drive this song. It may be too late but yeah instead of Slowhand turns 70 Eric maybe should get with Bobby and do something and not squander precious time. I mean JJ Cale is gone and there is no time like the present to at least do something together.

Old Pros. The arrangement is brilliant. Perfect execution. I'd rather listen to 4 16 year olds in a garage, making mistakes, discovering, or not. This is Henry Mancini and or Mitch Miller. You have become my parents. And they have been dead for a very long time. And I am probably older than most of you making comments here. It's the Hey Now Show. You're not to be faulted for having an opinion mate, that's natural. But as in all things it's in the details and these you appear to have missed (or were indifferent too?). Quite apart from Whitlock's superb singing done, mind you, under some extraordinarily stressful circumstances, Clapton is clearly into this performance -- there's a tremendous energy if not synergy 'twixt these two and that, in my modest opinion, makes it more than worth it. Sorry you felt otherwise. Cheers!
