This is a great video! I've been playing UFC 5 since it came out and I totally resonate with 'understanding the concepts implictily' but this added much more depth to my striking
I was that way for a long time in UFC 3. There are a lot of strikes and a lot of combos, but they all do serve a purpose. When you understand the role that linear/round strikes have in block breaking a lot of it starts to make sense.

@@ShakTMT I've always enjoyed getting into the details of UFC 5, and I've discovered that I also enjoy the process of trying to make a well-crafted video (despite my fledgling editing skills). I respect people who put out straightforward tutorials and show off high level gameplay, but this style of video is the most fun for me to make. I'm glad there are some people who enjoy it as well.
I make these videos thinking about more intermediate players, but I have heard from some very good players that it helped them as well. I think an interesting guide is not about teaching mechanics, but rather about discussing the right mindset or perspective, and everyone can benefit from that.
Your videos are extremely well-made. That said, learning the deeper mechanics and theories within the UFC series made me realize how much more fun combat sports are IRL. I should play less in virtual and more in person.
I'm happy that people who don't play, or no longer enjoy, the EA UFC games can still enjoy my videos. I play a wide variety of games, but for whatever reason this is the only fighting game I play regularly. I just could never get into street fighter et al. for whatever reason. So I couldn't make this style of video for them. I am considering branching out into other games, not so much for guides but more discussions or video essays done in a similar style to this video.
never played these games since they're not on PC but they always looked interesting! Your video was very nice! I'll be sure to play the game vicariously through your other videos. Also, I'm hitting the last combo you suggested. Eat that
Glad you liked the video. You should look into undisputed forever, which is an emulated version of UFC Undisputed 3 with an updated roster. Glad you hit the true combo, you've already mastered the game. 😄
I'm definitively not qualified to be a striking coach. I enjoy incorporating real life logic where the game allows, but this is definitely focused on the systems of the game. Glad you liked it anyway though!
I been recently "working" my jab in game in the sense that i wouldnt give my opponent time to breathe between lowering their head health It was really having good effect, and in most cases a obvious snowball appeared Leading to a clean ko (no ground and pound) I would say this is highly effective so long as you keep in mind not to trade with it so much as you just pressure with it This video was giving me some new techs to use with this
Pressuring with the jab is very powerful in UFC 5. The jab is just stupid efficient at breaking down the block. Block strength is stronger than it used to be but 3 rapid fire jabs still messes it up pretty quick. Of course you're inviting slip counters when you do it, but if you have some sense of timing and mix in enough other strikes to make countering uncomfortable its a really strong way to strike.
I do find it very satisfying to play cat and mouse between my shot selection and the opponent's head movement for a few rounds so I can land a well timed jab cross lead hook at the end of the fight. It's satisfying moments more so than wins that keep me coming back to the game.
Great vid and I’m a solid Div 16 or higher player and the double body hook combo does a significant amount of damage also if you faint it into a high uppercut 9 times out 10 you’ll get a stun . Great vid.
I know this took AGES to develop… BUT, Yawk it would be a literal sin to stop posting this for the community. My brain literally works this way in EVERY way. Keep posting TRUE MMA knowledge 💯
This is a video that could have been way shorter (just punch them where they're gonna be), or way longer. 3 hours going over the merits of every combo I like. I think YT is a good medium for just showing people your thought process. It's usually interesting to someone.
@@Yawkley the longer videos give more information and are interesting, I don’t see an issue with having a 20 minute video to explain a semi complicated topic
Comments have been very nice, but I'm starting to worry some of these may be sarcastic. I'll choose to believe they're earnest for now, in which case thank you.
Some sub transitions definitely look backwards. That's a good video idea, but I'm not sure if its right for me to make. I think there are some good sub transition videos out there, I'm not sure I could do it in a way that would feel interesting to me. I'm very selfish, now I'm focused on videos that are fun for me to make rather than just those that are most useful.
Thanks, I'll give it some consideration. But I need to figure out an angle or conceit for a clinch video. There are some straightforward guides to the mechanics out there. I may do some shorts covering the clinch if I can't think of a 15 minute video approach to it.
very detailed and spot on tutorial. could you also make a video on how UFC 5 is different from UFC 4 ? cause i dont see much of a difference other than visuals. the meta still feels identical, except for controls, the new submission system and a few elbow animations added in ground and pound
The game's aren't fundamentally different (other than the sub system) but I do think the striking feels fairly different. Damage is lower and stamina is a bit higher in 5. You could back people off a little easier in 4. I'll give a video some thought,
@@Yawkley thank you for the feedback. UFC 3 seems to be best one for me out of EA series, although I dont like the simplicity of knockouts, they seem so generic and dont have that epic moment feeling like in real fights. I liked UFC 2's satisfying ragdoll knockouts and followup finishers, but then again the gameplay too arcadey. wish we could have something like UFC 3 Gameplay with UFC 2 knockouts and more personality & unique animations for fighters
It definitely goes, but I had never heard of Fly Corp. It's a case of convergent evolution, both Fly Corp and I got our music from Kevin McLeod. He makes an incredible amount of good free to use music for games and videos. incompetech.com/
Circling guide and range guide next? I’ve realised circling feels hard I’m comfortable following them put I know I shouldn’t be I focus on circling and can’t focus on being evasive😂. Somehow still holding it up in div 17
The next video will be on striking defense and movement/positioning will be a big part of it. For a quick tip all I'll say is be patient and don't stay with one distance or one movement pattern for two long.
Me too, I would prefer if the low block didn't cover body shots and leg kicks. You can target both if the change in timing throws them off, but its not ideal generally.
Can you do this for UFC 4 cause I feel you understand the idea of the stand up and that game I know is a lil different sometimes better sometimes worse depending on
All of this fundamentally applies to 4 as well (3 too really). The striking mechanics are not that different. It's more of a balance at the margins thing. Damage is a bit higher in 4, some strikes (spinning kicks and elbows/backfists) are better. But the principles are the same.
What a phenomenal video. Do you have another channel or anything? It feels like a waste to have this level of editing, script writing, knowledge, and charisma be used only on UFC 5 once a month
I only have the one channel. I wish I could upload faster, in fact I intended to have a video out a few weeks ago but real life has been kicking my ass lately. My videos are pretty labor intensive, but I'm also very inefficient right now. I've been tinkering with video editing for around a year now and I could do a lot to improve my workflow and overall skill. I do have ideas for other games/topics and I would like to do some slightly more ambitious videos in the future. Whether that's on this channel or a new one I don't know as of yet. I'm glad you liked the video, I appreciate the feedback as I'm in a weird place where I can see I'm doing some things right, but I also find more to criticize in my videos as I slowly gain more editing knowledge.
I am 100% not liable if you get rocked in the gym due to my video game advice. To be clear. I'm working on a video on striking defense which will cover evasion and counters. There will be a section on using head movement to end an exchange.
Dude, your videos are A+-thank you! Any tips for handling aggressive fighters who constantly press forward? I see a lot of players online who keep moving forward and throwing wild hooks and uppercuts. How do you manage that kind of relentless pressure?
I'm working on a video on fundamental striking defense (probably take me a month though). Part of it is being aggressive yourself to catch them on the way in (at least until they start slipping to enter), then staying off the fence. You need to look for patterns in their combos to find opportunities to counter. It's a big subject with no single easy answer.
Thank you so much for the insight. I’m looking forward to your next video-your ability to teach and break things down really sets you apart from other channels. You’re an excellent teacher, and it shows in every video. Keep up the great work!
Good players take things away from you once they start working. For me offensive striking is about keeping people off balance, not showing the same look too often.
Thank you so much for subscribing, I appreciate it. I don't use AI that's my voice. Though I am only occasionally accused of being robotic in real life. I guess I just tend not to be overly animated when I record voice over.
Organizing the ideas is really the hard part of making a video. I think most experienced players know all of this stuff, but it can be helpful to see it put together for many players.
I originally wanted to get this one done in a week. Then I decided to spend time learning more about the fusion page of davinci resolve and that killed two weeks. YT is a hobby for me so I can't put out many videos unless I put the quality way down.

I still feel like I'm not very technically adept, but I do think I've stumbled onto a few things that make for a decent video. I'm currently feuding with my editing software again but the kind words do help me.
@ Bro when you make content this good, I’m not surprised there’s a lot of support, I’m subscribed and ready for the next videos!
P.s I’m not sure what you edit on but I really like Davinci Resolve and Sony Vegas!!
@@TJACam I use Davinci Resolve, it's a good program for the most part, the fault lies with me. I appreciate the vote of confidence.
I’ve been waiting for something like this!
When I was learning UFC 3 I wanted a video of this sort. Decided to make it myself now that I know a little more.
Thank you for continuing with this series I always take your advice to heart you break it down like GSP 😂 technical but not over complicated
I don't like to simplify things too much, but the hard part is not making them too complicated.
@ it’s a delicate balance for sure you but kill it as always
Masterpiece of a video
Thanks, you're too kind.
brother, you are a genius. i thought i was the only one who over thought on why i do what i do on ufc 5 combo & movement wise. content like this would of helped me heavily 3 years ago getting into ufc 4🔥
Same for me when I was picking up 3, I found bits and pieces of what I wanted on youtube, I just wanted to get a systematic approach in one video. I still left some things out but I think this communicates the basic thought process
@ you summed everything perfectly man. I always subconsciously did things in this game that were working but I never really understood why I did them and why they worked. I also think watching my own fights that were good helped out with seeing why I did certain things and what I should do more or less of. but yea, i’m really bad at knowing when I should implement leg kicks so i’m gonna check that video out now man. Love the content tho, your channel deserves more attention for sure💯🤙🏽
@@rellocozy I think i did ok explaining leg kick timing, but to me leg kicks are beautiful and you must follow your heart with them
You’re the goat🙏 you just can’t miss with these videos
I could miss, but I'll try not to
@@Yawkley it’s not a miss if it’s a delayed faint
@@Iceboy1309 lol, that's right. Any bad videos I make are just a throwaway punch to set you up for the wheel kick.
Love this. Hope u get views, ur channel grows, n u keep making good stuff
Appreciate it, I'll keep working on making better videos
This is a great video! I've been playing UFC 5 since it came out and I totally resonate with 'understanding the concepts implictily' but this added much more depth to my striking
I think people are pretty good at figuring out what works, understanding why something works is the interesting part to me.
beautiful video man i’ve been playing ufc since 3 and im pretty sure experienced and i can definitely say you just broke down my whole mindset
I started in 3 too and it took me a while to work out a mindset for combination punching rather than just throwing set "good" combos.
That ending is perfect exactly true for me I know about this a lil obviously but never understood why combos work the way they do
I was that way for a long time in UFC 3. There are a lot of strikes and a lot of combos, but they all do serve a purpose. When you understand the role that linear/round strikes have in block breaking a lot of it starts to make sense.
@ bro to me this is how combos work in real life man I appreciate this information a lot
Phenomenal video that helps as a beginner a lot. Keep up the work 🙏
👍
Phenomenal video, highest quality ufc video I’ve seen
Very nice of you to say so, I put a lot of time on this one. Took a lot of punches from Davinci Resolve.
supremely underappreciated.
I feel pretty adequately appreciated on this one.
You really know your stuff man. Best UFC 5 video I’ve seen and I can’t wait to see your other stuff.
Thanks. I think I know about the same amount as other div 20 players, but the trick is organizing your thoughts in a useful manner.
im a beginner on ufc 5, and this video absolutely helped me, i still need to learn much more about the game itself, but this video is perfectly for a beginning, thank you bro
Happy to help. These games can be very hard to get into for newer players and anything that can help clarify the thought process is a good thing. I've heard from people at multiple skill levels that the video helped them, which makes me happy.
@@Yawkley keep it up The good work bro, you are a legend
Its awesome to see high level content like this for my fave game
Thank you, I'm glad so many players seem to be reacting positively to this video.
@Yawkley to be honest, its quite a niche game so it means we don't have much choice in terms of content.
I usually watch the same 2-3 youtubers, but I've always wished others would spend time and give it some love with real high level content like this so thanks to you as well sir
@@Yawkley for fledgling skills they are pretty good my guy, keep it up!!
This video also works for people who compete. Thank you sir
Never a bad idea to spend more time out in the real world.
I don't even play the ufc games but as a mma fan and fgc fan, this video was cool as shit. I would love to see you break down other fighting games
I don’t even play UFC 5 but this is such a great explanation for striking martial arts in general
I'm definitively not qualified to be a striking coach. I enjoy incorporating real life logic where the game allows, but this is definitely focused on the systems of the game. Glad you liked it anyway though!
@ too late, you’re listed in my class action lawsuit 😂 nah but similar concepts apply, go low to open up high
@@700superstion007 😅😅
Wow. Well done Brother
Thanks, brother
I been recently "working" my jab in game in the sense that i wouldnt give my opponent time to breathe between lowering their head health
It was really having good effect, and in most cases a obvious snowball appeared
Leading to a clean ko (no ground and pound)
I would say this is highly effective so long as you keep in mind not to trade with it so much as you just pressure with it
This video was giving me some new techs to use with this
Pressuring with the jab is very powerful in UFC 5.
How do you only have 1.8k subs? Great video man.
To be fair I have a very slow upload schedule and basically all of those subs came in the last 60 days. I'm surprised I have as many as I do.
this video is GOLD
Glad you liked it. But it's arguably Platinum given Mike Perry's presence.
"The reward is the ability to go back to the Simplicity of the jab, cross, lead hook." Warmly put, I must add
I do find it very satisfying to play cat and mouse between my shot selection and the opponent's head movement for a few rounds so I can land a well timed jab cross lead hook at the end of the fight. It's satisfying moments more so than wins that keep me coming back to the game.
This is like exactly it.
It's very nearly it. It-adjacent
Keep it up Yawkley!
Thank you, will do
wake up babe yawkley posted
If absence makes the heart grow fonder then my subscribers should be getting quite fond of me.
Incredible videos!!
Glad you liked em
Great vid and I’m a solid Div 16 or higher player and the double body hook combo does a significant amount of damage also if you faint it into a high uppercut 9 times out 10 you’ll get a stun . Great vid.
Slip, straight, left body hook, and if ur feeling cheeky, add a right body hook. Fav combo oat 🤤
you earned a sub‼️
Hell yeah, thanks for the sub!
@@pacman506 absolutely. It's just tricky to find the right length. Some things need time, but videos can also overstay their welcome.
This helps a lot. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Best video of all time
Comments have been very nice, but I'm starting to worry some of these may be sarcastic. I'll choose to believe they're earnest for now, in which case thank you.
I love this
I'm glad you did
Great video as always,I’d love to see you breakdown submissions as some denies like the darce on rnc are really confusing
Great work
the guy you play at 2:30am on a losing streak:
If I'm playing at 2:30am I'm probably the one on a losing streak. Get ready for 30 flying knees in a row.
Absolute cinema
Entirely too kind, but I did put some time in on this one.
Hey man big fan, a clinch guide would be amazing
Thanks, I'll give it some consideration. But I need to figure out an angle or conceit for a clinch video. There are some straightforward guides to the mechanics out there. I may do some shorts covering the clinch if I can't think of a 15 minute video approach to it.
I like how it’s Mike Perry that’s doing all the thinking 😂
Powerful fists, powerful mind
EA needs to put you on payroll haha. Good job you are awesome.
Thanks, EA just needs to give me like 1 year heads up and I'll make the tutorials for UFC 6. And I'll do it all for only a million.
Bro playing ufc like its tekken lol, nice vid!
said the same shit lol dope vid
lol, I'm trash at tekken. UFC/Boxing games are the only fighting games that make sense to my brain.
Exactly what’s wrong with this game
Hey yawkley, will you be making some videos on the groundgame? Cheers
I will do some shorts on it, but I'm more focused on striking. It makes for better long form videos for me.
very detailed and spot on tutorial. could you also make a video on how UFC 5 is different from UFC 4 ? cause i dont see much of a difference other than visuals. the meta still feels identical, except for controls, the new submission system and a few elbow animations added in ground and pound
@@LUAN_JAGUAR I agree with 3 being the high point. I didn't play much of 1 or 2 though. Yeah the KO's are a big issue as well, very few look good in 5
Fly corp music goes hard
It definitely goes, but I had never heard of Fly Corp. It's a case of convergent evolution, both Fly Corp and I got our music from Kevin McLeod. He makes an incredible amount of good free to use music for games and videos.

Hey man ive seen some few of your videos. Your content is great, keep it up!🎉 Subbed 👍
Will do, thank you so much for the sub
Needed this video I’ve been getting whopped In online currently
We all take our lumps, very hard game to get solid all around in.
Great video
Thanks!
oh my god... its beautiful
For a quick tip all I'll say is be patient and don't stay with one distance or one movement pattern for two long.
honored to be the first comment keep it up nobody else doing this stuff
You will receive a leather satchel full of gold coins for your celerity. Glad you liked it!
*the dark art* 🤣🤣
Video is 1000x better than the gameplay
I think that's a compliment?
@ yessir ❗️
Great video man your content is really good and you've got some great IQ 👏🔥🔥👊
Appreciate it brother, just trying to help people learn the game
What a video holy shit 🔥
Very kind of you to say
This is awesome
Thank you
i wish you were able to mix body shots and leg shots..
Me too, I would prefer if the low block didn't cover body shots and leg kicks. You can target both if the change in timing throws them off, but its not ideal generally.
I’m going to study tf out of this video 😂
I'm happy to encourage people to study the important things in life.
Ik all the combos Ive been playing everyday pretty much since UFC undisputed a actual good game
I'm glad you liked the video,
I appreciate the feedback as I'm in a weird place where I can see I'm doing some things right, but I also find more to criticize in my videos as I slowly gain more editing knowledge.
Ngl think might help me with actual sparring 😂 Could you make a video on combinations with slips/rolls/blocks/parry
@@Tre-m3s Thank you for your comment, I really do appreciate it.
damn, imagine getting yo ass beat on ufc 5 and then seeing that same ass beating get made into an intricate analysis on youtube
That guy killed my family irl, so he actually got off pretty light here.
its cool i did notice on my own the jab cross hook divides players into good or bad, if they cant start pulling it by round 2 they are fucked
Good players take things away from you once they start working. For me offensive striking is about keeping people off balance, not showing the same look too often.
You just gained a new subscriber! 💯 What is the name of the ai voice you use?
Thank you so much for subscribing, I appreciate it. I don't use AI that's my voice. Though I am only occasionally accused of being robotic in real life. I guess I just tend not to be overly animated when I record voice over.
@ oh okay no problem, thank you for the response :)
@@Chambersjr No problem, I try my best to respond to comments. I always appreciate people who care enough to comment, it helps my channel.
@ this channel really has a lot of potential. I will certainly support and contribute where I can to help you. Keep it up 👊🥋
This an amazing videos, really explains everything well. I knew everthing to talked about i just didnt have this orginized
Organizing the ideas is really the hard part of making a video. I think most experienced players know all of this stuff, but it can be helpful to see it put together for many players.
Your content is really good the only thing that sucks is your upload schedule
I originally wanted to get this one done in a week. Then I decided to spend time learning more about the fusion page of davinci resolve and that killed two weeks. YT is a hobby for me so I can't put out many videos unless I put the quality way down.
oh yeah this is the one
That's right. The worst video every posted.
