  • In this video I break down scenes from Season 3 Episode 14 of SEAL Team CBS. (In the video I state episode 13 but it is in fact episode 14.)
    This TV show is produced by former Team guys and have former SEALs that work with the actors.
    Disclaimer: In Hollywood there are things that must happen to appeal to the eye and then there are real world tactics. It it extremely hard to be 100% tactical in a movie and it remain enticing to the human brain.
    There is no way I have the ability to understand everything happening on scene, or in the directors mind, therefore I do the best I can with consideration to my experience and time as a SEAL, the tactics taught now to SEAL Teams, and what I teach in my training. There is a baseline of tactics and then we adapt on the fly.
    Have a great day and God bless,
    Jason Pike

    SEAL Team is probably the best show to date out of any of the SOF shows in the past. They got a lot of the stuff right that counted, and did a lot of justice to the mental stress side of the job. Season 5 with jason going through TBI has been fantastically written

      Yeah I love the show. One thing I wonder about is that you see a lot of shooting with the gun canted. I csn never see if they are using canted red dot of whatever. It's usually Ray doing it. So I would think so. But the way its edited (him aiming with the rifle canted, followed by shot through reticle of his scope or eotech) makes it look weird.

    • @josephrosenbaum3343
      @josephrosenbaum3343 2 года назад +2

      @@AGfrom83 usually the canting is just from natural movement. If you put a rifle in your should pocket it will naturally be slightly canted cause it's not actually straight up and down, It's a concious thing to keep the rifle straight up.
      The scope thing is an editing part really. When they film those shots it's not with a gopro down the sight of the rifle in the shot as its happening. They film it seperately then put a scope overlay on top. Not canting it to match is a bit lazy but not something that ruins it for me

    • @AGfrom83

      @@AGfrom83 when you're in the most pucker factor situations dynamic entries and the other shit that goes on in the show. You start reverting to muscle memory and instinct. It's why they train day in and day out.
      Longer range shooting like that can get harder, cause now you have to guess your holds. But it's not really that bad, you train to shoot in ackward positions

    Small correction on 17:20 .
    I might be wrong but the tank their fighting against looks like a modified MT-LB which DShK can penetrate from any given angle, making their decision of mounting that DHsk quite logical. But to build up the intensity, the producers decided to make the MG fire ineffective so that air support can come in just in time to save them.

    • @frogmantactical
      @frogmantactical  2 года назад +25

      Good catch. Very possible. I was just going off the show rather trying to figure out what tank it was. Based on the video obviously it wasn’t penetrating therefore it was beyond the DShK’s capabilities. Perhaps they weren’t shooting armor piercing rounds, modified tank exceeded armor specs or something. Nonetheless great point. 🙏

    I agree that they wanted to certain it on Jason with Jason being the 3rd guy on the stack.
    However, whenever they want to breach fast, I notice they usually have the actual working guys take point like Trent (Delta), Full Metal (Seal) or use Brock and the Dog (K9 unit). If they need actors to clear a room, they usually have Clay and Ray, being that they seem to take the training most seriously.
    Jason’s actor is a little older and isn’t moving quite as fast, nice or fluid as the younger guys, so they rarely make him go point. The guy that engaged the first target before going to the corner was Trent, the leftie Delta guy. I notice he usually takes point with a right hander for better coverage. Seemed like Jason was a 2man there, for a change.
    As for the fly by, I would guess it’s for Hollywood effect. Would be difficult for the closeup scene of the fly by occur prior to the explosion of the tank if it were coming from the blufor side. So, I guess the director won in having the fly by effect as it goes pass them, after the explosion.
    Awesome video, you’d likely never run out of content by just reviewing Seal team episodes. Always a pleasure watching them.

      @@BelgianPigeon I thought about this myself before as he was just mentioned to be a Ranger-Sniper or SF under CBS interviews (how Owen and the other DG guy were just called Seals while their command was not specified), but it seems he's just quite humble about it. Plenty of interviews showing he's a T1 guy without any denial while not openly admitting as well. Working under JSOC, and not just USASOC per se, also supports CAG. I highly doubt that he wouldn't deny the claims in his interviews made on his behalf if he was a SF supporting a T1 unit. Unsure if he was a GB, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has an SF tab along with his Ranger tab. See the following:

    Jason at the beginning when you talked about the first guy in, having to sacrifice clearing his corner if there is a target shooting in the centre.
    I'm just curious. Would the number 3 guy who was going centre ever take your corner because he sees you had to deal with the target?
    Is that something you would ever drill? Because it seems like it could be a fairly common thing during CQB.
    Awesome vid btw. Love these.

    • @frogmantactical
      @frogmantactical  2 года назад +3

      Ideally you keep moving to your corner as you engage. However if the 1 or 2 man did freeze up, then yes as long as priorities are in order, the 3 man could and possibly should take the corner.
      As I said in video, it happens so fast by the time you are in, your teammates are in engaging which should free you up to get your corner.
      Angles, sectors of fire, and work priorities determine the overall actions by the team. It’s extensive.

    The breakdown of the last scene really highlights realism vs Hollywood. If the approach of the aircraft were done correctly you wouldn't get the Hollywood scene of the heads turning as the aircraft left. I often wonder if things are done incorrectly because the guys in the background don't want to give everything away but what are the chances it has a real impact on real-world operations? Or it's done incorrectly because 'Hollywood' is the boss.
    I wonder how many takes the actors have to do to get the room-clearing scenes to an acceptable standard.

    Regarding the first scene at around 2:54:
    What do you (Jason) or you guys in general think about doing a step to the center and enganging any visible target from the outside
    (without any part of your body or equipment protruding into the room) before actually penetrating the room ?
    So that when you're committing, you can fully focus on your corner (the "last 10 percent") ?

    • @frogmantactical
      @frogmantactical  Год назад +2

      There are so many ways to do it. Each has pro’s and con’s. Are for how you described it, the con of that is loss of element of surprise. Yes, one guy is down but what if there are more in the room? Now they have efficient time to respond and train their sights at the door.
      By getting into the room faster, you have the element of surprise, get guns in faster, but the cons are you now are more vulnerable.
      There is no perfect way. Tactics usually change once the enemy catches on to how we do things. We just try to stay ahead of the enemy. 🙏

      @@BelgianPigeon What about the 24th STS? They're Tier 1 and embed with delta and devgru units specifically for CAS. I know all operators are trained to do it but thought they mostly use a CCT for that role. I'm sure mission dictates it more than anything though. And SEAL TEAM obviously isn't going to cast someone just for that.

    My question is why didnt the seal team have at least a law that they could have thrown away after shooting the tank. It wouldn't have been all that much more weight to carry and that APC would've have ever been an issue.

    • @frogmantactical
      @frogmantactical  2 года назад +1

      Depends on the load out that they have. No reason to take a LAW rocket when dealing with small arms as they didn’t know the tank was present or possible.

      @@frogmantactical I didn't think of it like that. I just assumed they would've know whats in the Area. So that makes sense.

    I think it would have looked just as good if the jet went over their heads from behind them, and it wouldn't have been as absurd.
    That tank-destruction effect was terrible.

      Agreed. I know it’s CGI so maybe they didn’t have the CGI data for it on that particular approach or maybe they did it to add the “danger” value. 🙏

      I think it’s worth watching if you’re into special forces and action movies in general. Of course they change some things from how SEAL units really work but Tyler Grey(Trent) was in Delta and The guy that plays Full Metal was a real SEAL. Dita (Cerberus) is a real police dog and Brock in real life is her human. Idk Brocks real name but he was a K-9 unit trainer. A lot of the crew are also vets.
      The best way to put it is if you watch Frogman’s other video and this, there’s not a lot of glaring errors or phony stuff to critic. The weapons may not be exact but very close. Do real SEALs all have a Unity Tactical folding from sight mounted on a Micro Hub set behind their PEQ15 and a A.R.M.S. #40 rear sight? No but it’s not an illogical set up. Most shows, you’d need two hours per episode to talk about everything they get wrong.
      They’ll change some stuff to make it watchable and Bravo Team and their story is probably more representative of many SEAL teams over many years than any individual team would experience.
      My advice is to start with season 1 and not to start watching half way thru or something. If you’ve made it 5-10 episodes in and your not hooked, it’s not for you. But it’s definitely worth giving a chance IMO.

    @FrogmanTactical -. If you’re needing or would like to have use of my SASS - a KAC M110 w/ NF ATACR 7-35 FFP - for your upcoming video, I’d be happy to loan it out to you for free. It’d ship in custom Pelican case to wherever needed from DFW area. I’m recovering from major surgery so won’t be able to use during any of the time you’d need it. Just wanted to offer. Have a great &, more importantly, blessed upcoming week. ✝️

      I hope he takes you up on that offer!! Awesome rifle… the ATACR is beyond my means right now, much less the rifle. I think Reed Knight said it was in the $16k range including the Leupold 3.5-10x40. Idk what it would cost to source all the parts and convert a ??SR-25??
