  • In this video former Navy SEAL Jason Pike breaks down the first fight scene with a consideration to real Navy SEAL tactics and mindset. A few verbal hiccups but the show must go on.....
Disclaimer: In no way is Jason challenging LT. Murphy and the men of Operation Red Wing's tactics. I am only looking at what Hollywood has created in the movie.

Great points about the straight and round objects. One of the first things they taught us in Sniper school was that exactly, laying prone on your toes, your boot heels can be seen a mile away. Always laying prone, inside edge of foot flat against the ground. Target Detection 101. And I feel ya on the comms. Carrying your bag plus a 117G, 152, and batteries, crap gets heavy.

Probably the most eye opening thing you talked about to me was the effect of an RPG, I thought since it was a rocket propelled grenade, it had a rough equivalent to a regular grenade (which is still substantial but not as bad as what you were saying) especially the percussion part. Can’t wait for the next part!!

I saw a video on the Deep Net that was made by the enemy during this battle. Very difficult to watch. The video shows the enemy stripping the bodies of, Danny Dietz and Michael Murphy. And yes, Murphy was wearing that Red Patch that you talked about. The video also shows a Panasonic Toughbook that had a bullet hole through it. And it showed an enemy combatant turning the laptop on and scrolling through it. And based on the condition of the bodies it was evident that they went through hell before they were killed.

You did a great job breaking down this part of the movie! I actually saw this gun fight from the POV of the Taliban. The video is on Reddit. They actually were wearing their red insignia patches. They stripped the gear off Danny Dietz, and Mike Murphy. They didn't disrespect their bodies like Alchida. But it was still hard to watch! You could hear them yelling back and forth to each other during the gun fight. Even heard Mike Murphy screaming for Marcus to help him at one point! It looked like around 8-12 Taliban fighters with a couple PKM machine guns, a couple guys with RPG's, and the rest will AK's. The SEAL's were carrying a ton of gear! What a sad day! The Taliban had the high ground, and I think the whole goat herder story was made up for OPSEC. Seemed like they heard the infill, then tracked them from where the helo dropped them off. They were unable to recover the fast ropes. So the SEAL's did they're best to hide them. But they were in the Talibans back yard. The scenery looked the same though same exact woods, and mountain terrain! They really were being pushed down the mountain, alot like what it shows in the movie. Not to that extreme that I could tell. But it was definitely some rough terrain! This movie definitely could use a part three with you giving your opinion on it. I don't know if you've seen the video the Taliban filmed while fighting the SEAL's. But it's definitely a good way to truly visualize what really went down. Because you can see and hear alot of what went down! It must be hard on Marcus! I couldn't imagine losing my brother's in arms all in one day like that! Including the helo that was shot down! When you mentioned the crypto and other gear that should be destroyed. Instead of letting it get into the hands of the enemy. All I can think of is how much of our gear the Taliban is rocking now! If we have to go into Afghanistan again, we'll be fighting through our own equipment! What a mess!!!!

@@mitchr482 I found it recently. Only a few weeks ago. It was on Reddit. That's the only place I could find it. I saw it years ago before the movie was made. But didn't realize the significance of what I was seeing until after I saw the movie and heard some of Marcus's speeches. The mountain they filmed the movie on was very similar to the real thing. The Taliban had the high ground too, but it was only 8-12 guys. Not over 200. I don't think they ran into any goat herders either. Watch it on Reddit, read the comments, then decide for yourself what you think happened.

    • @americanpatriot6918
      @americanpatriot6918 3 года назад +2

@@odyshopody9387 I've seen the same movie. I'm thinking Marcus had to change the real story for operational security and to paint the SEAL's in a different light than what actually happened. If you know what I'm saying. Either way, stuff definitely went very bad for those recon SEAL's that day. However Marcus made it out was a miracle!! And only Marcus, the Taliban, and whoever got to see the video the Taliban made when they were fighting them on that mountain. I'm sure whoever saw the full version of the video knows more than anyone. Even Marcus. It's crazy that they filmed it! Showed the dead bodies, and the equipment and patches were all SEAL issued equipment. Either way I think the movie was awesome! I bet Marcus has a different story he tells his family and close friends in the team's what really happened that day. From what I saw, the part that the Taliban had the high ground. And were pushing them down the mountain, and Mike Murphy did yell out to Marcus for help in the middle of the gun fight. Like it happened in the movie. Gulab the Afghan that protected Marcus said he didn't have any gun shot wounds and had his kit and full mags on him. I don't know why he would lie, Gulab that is. But I really want to believe Marcus. Just because I can't imagine what he went through that day. And however it went down I'm sure the government had to approve how the story was told. So it wasn't totally true. So really who really knows. Either way it's definitely something I thought about for awhile. And was just a little disappointed that we didn't get a full real story. But that's just life for us. We live in a manufactured reality that can be difficult to navigate through. So I don't fault anyone for doing what they gotta do! If you know what I'm saying, you know what I'm saying. Take care my friend!!😎🤜🤛🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🦅

NO movie should nor does show the full detail of what and how any branch especially spec ops. actually does there warfare and tactics for a reason... the whole world watches these movies, and common sense (which i know does not always prevail) would tell you that they would not compromise and show/give away alot of our stuff. people see these movies and immediately think this is how it works and NO it does not. atleast not all of it. we are the best for a reason. you wanta know how it truly works.. join and experience it in real time. thankyou brother for your videos i have enjoyed them and understand them.

Through my military carreer (roughly 10 years and counting) we never fought with our rucks on. We did leave our big rucks in a ruck hide close to the OP, kept our 3 day bags on us and if engaged just dumped them. It's quite hard to fight with them on and it takes energy away from you. Granted they thought they'd need it after the fight. Are SEALs trained to dump their rucks? Great video!

Why didn’t they try to improve their defensive position conditions if they planned to engage the enemy? The mission should have been aborted once the team was compromised. The goat herders could have been detained, until the team was extracted. Thanks, for your insight on how real training vs Hollywood reality.

He had his unit wear the bright orange patch of FDNY Engine Co. 54, Ladder Co. 43 - “El Barrio’s Bravest” - on their uniforms as a team symbol and constant reminder of 9/11 and why the SEALs were in Afghanistan there’s a reason .

During filming Marcus Luttrell argued to with Peter Berg about the details.
Marcus wanted the actors to wear face paint camouflage because they wouldn’t go into the woods without it. Peter didn’t like it because it was difficult to who was who through the camera in specific lighting.

I was a Tanker in Habbaniyah Iraq 05-06. My very first day in sector, we haven't even taken over yet, just doing our right seat rides, I was a driver, my TC was in the loader spot and there were 2 Marines that were showing us around. Went out the back gate, hooked a right, went about 100 meters and the whole fucking tank shook like nothing I've ever felt before. That a 70 tons tin can and it moved. The Marine TC yelled "contact right 2 o'clock driver move NOW, find that fucker(talking to his gunner)". Some things happened, we moved, yada yada, I said"what the fuck was that" That Marine TC said, "welcome to the show, you boys just survived your first RPG round". We weren't on the MSR for, 15 min. It was the begining of 12 months of hell in that road. I had the privilege on a few occasions, of being a taxi for some of your boys, if I remember right, it was team 7, because my tank was outfitted with a CSAMM and liked to see what it could do, incase they needed a way out. Used to zero that thing on a 1" fence post at 1800 meters. Fuck I miss that shit

I know lots of teams got into it bad and Markus ordeal after the gun fight makes for a good movie.
I don't know if other teams took these kind of losses and may never know.
But each and everyone one of those fight are movie worthy.
I'm afraid after what happened in Afghanistan after what are brilliant leader did plus the mind set of Hollywood those men will never get there stories told.
There has to be thousands of are hero's with amazing stories out there.
Hollywood has turned against what are country stands for.
Any movie with a veteran will be about how bad they where and all they elegal.
I got a bit carried away here but have good reason.

But but but Jason, those RPGs were those pesky Russian or Chintzy Chinese ones. Therefore rocks, sand, American made footwear and BDUs are impervious to them.😂 On the serious tho, you did a great breakdown and critique of Hollowwood portrayals. I am almost certain that, Marcus must of thrown his hands up a few times in disdain for the hollowwood money shots.
