Memories…. First year of highschool band, loved it so much I still hold it as my favorite band piece going into college now. Was the only oboe, but I still felt like i did amazing.
Fun fact: this song starts off as a song about a girl who lover drowns when he was working on the docks and the the girl dies of a broken heart, the it goes into a song about a grit turkey....
We are playing this piece in my 9th Grade Concert Band! I'm playing Flute 2 and I absolutely love it! When we first Sight Read this song, I was like "Wow! This piece is so beautiful! I cannot wait to practice more of it and perform it our next concert!" This is one of my favorite Pieces that I have ever played.
Oh good! The band director handed me a piccolo and announced that I would be playing solo piccolo for this piece. (I thought it would be a lot easier because flute fingerings and piccolo fingerings are basically the same) ugh
It’s been at least 10 years since I’ve played this song in high school (on timpani) and yet, I still remember it beat for beat! One of my top three favorites that I performed
i am a 9th grader and this my 3rd concert and i play clairnet 3 for this piece and i love it because in different sections such as 93 sound different from the other section of piece of music.
i played the 1st clarinet part for this at a summer honour band program a few years back... still one of my favourite pieces to this day! the first section still brings tears to my eyes sometimes, something about it feels so moving
I'm that one percussionist whose the "one man band" of his song, playing maracas, wood block, and triangle. It's not that hard, but you need to have good timing because the parts are spaced by like 50 measures each! XD
Ps, my band played this when I was in 6th grade, and now in 7th grade were playing advanced high school pieces now, so this was pretty easy, but I loved it
This arrangement is beautiful. I remember playing it back in 8th grade, and I remember just how much fun I had with it. Trust me on this, the Oboe part of this is a lot of fun.
My band director is having us write down what we think would be difficult for us in the two songs we're performing (this song and Cajun Folk Songs) AND I PLAY BARI SAX! It doesn't help much that I can't hear the bari (if there even IS one)
A piece we were supposed to play for district competition but due to corona it was all canceled and I just dropped out of band, my biggest regret yet... might join it when some things are better personally. But i don’t know if I will be able to without feeling like a quitter. Any advice if I do rejoin band in my junior or senior year?
The beginning is suppose to be slow and on one part you're suppose to go faster. Always read what's on the sheet paper!! That's what my band teacher says!!
